Media Drone Sparks Outrage by Flying Over Sensitive Search Site in Ireland

In the rush to get the perfect shot, a line was crossed. Irish police (gardaí) are now investigating a media outlet after one of its drone operators flew a UAV over a highly sensitive search site in Donabate, Co Dublin.
The Journal investigated it, and we know that the site is the focus of a grim search for a seven-year-old boy who has been missing for years and is presumed dead.
The incident is a stark and painful reminder of the immense ethical responsibility that comes with being a drone pilot, especially in the world of journalism. It highlights the critical need for sensitivity and respect in situations of profound human grief.
A Cordoned-Off Scene and a Clear No-Fly Zone
The search began on September 1st after child protection services raised new concerns about the boy’s disappearance.
The gardaí cordoned off an open ground area and, to ensure the integrity and privacy of their operation, an official UAS Geographic Zone—a no-fly area for drones—was activated on September 2nd.
The restriction, which runs until September 17th, is clearly marked on the Irish Aviation Authority’s (IAA) interactive maps.
Despite this, on Wednesday, gardaí detected a drone over the site. They located the operator, who was working for a media outlet and admitted to the breach.
A second drone was spotted over the site on Thursday, and both incidents are now under a full investigation.
A Plea for Space and Time
The gardaí have made a direct and emotional plea to the media, asking for “space and time” to conduct their search with the sensitivity it deserves.
They have urged news outlets not to publish any images captured by the drones, a request that highlights the deep ethical breach at the heart of this story.
For us in the drone community, this is a gut-wrenching scenario. A drone, likely a standard consumer model like a DJI Mini 4 Pro, was used to intrude on a moment of immense potential pain and grief.
Violating a clearly marked no-fly zone is a serious offense, with penalties from both the IAA and the police. But in this case, it’s not just a legal issue; it’s a moral one.
The Double-Edged Sword of Drone Journalism
Drones have become an incredible tool for journalism. They can provide a powerful, contextualizing perspective on everything from natural disasters to public events.
We’ve seen them used brilliantly to monitor floods in Alaska and to track wildfires in the American West. But this incident in Donabate is the dark side of that coin.
It shows what happens when the desire for a dramatic shot overrides basic human decency and respect for the law. It’s the kind of reckless behavior that gives ammunition to critics who want to see all drone use more heavily restricted.

But that defense comes with a non-negotiable condition: we must operate with a level of ethical responsibility that is even higher than that of ground-based journalists, because our tool is so much more powerful and potentially intrusive.
“Real talk,” flying a drone over a search for a missing child is a monstrous failure of judgment.
It is a gross intrusion on a scene of profound grief and a blatant disregard for the family’s privacy and the authorities’ work. There is no photograph, no piece of footage, that is worth that kind of violation.
The pilot in this case didn’t just break a rule; they broke a sacred trust. They used a tool of perspective to show a profound lack of it.
This is a moment for every single pilot who flies for news-gathering purposes to look in the mirror. We have to be better than this. We have to be the ones who hold the highest ethical standards.
We must check our maps, respect no-fly zones, and always, always put human dignity before the desire to get the shot. Because if we don’t, we risk losing the trust of the public, and with it, our freedom to fly at all.

Flying Witch Or UFO? Strange Object Seen Flying In France Behind Apartment

A viral video, showing a strange object, resembling to a "witch," was seen flying in the sky in France.
As people remain baffled by the view, some netizens started mocking about it, while others called it AI-generated, questioning the credibility of the video.
The video, captured somewhere in France with its exact location unknown, went viral on social media, attracting millions of viewers.
It shows a weird object rising slowly upwards into the sky behind an apartment block. The person recording the video zoomed in to get a better view and to identify what it is exactly.
However, as the video has been captured from far away, it cannot be determined what that object is.

Instead of being frightened by the view, the majority of the netizens were mocking the 'flying witch', with humorous comments on the post.
Some people speculated it to be some sort of drone or a balloon. While others said that it could be an experimental jetpack flight or a UFO.
One of the users wrote, "No need to fear, that's just my mother-in-law." While another user posted, "It's a drone with a witch costume on. GENIUS."
A third user wrote on Instagram, "Let the woman fly in peace".
Some users, while questioning the credibility of the video, wrote, "Why are there always low-resolution videos of videos from such a long distance nobody nearby was aware of or had a camera?"

Active duty Navy chief who witnessed UFO convinced doubtful colleagues with radar expertise: ‘It was like checkmate’

An active-duty Navy chief saw four tic-tac shaped UFOs off the coast of California while working on the USS Jackson — and convinced a doubting radar officer the craft were real with an undeniable “checkmate.”
US Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Alexandro Wiggins witnessed multiple UFOs on radar on the evening of February 15, 2023 — observing the first one emerge seamlessly out of the ocean, he said.
“What am I seeing?” recounted Chief Wiggins, who spoke to The Post on behalf of himself as an individual and not as a representative of the Navy. “From my observations, it did in fact come from the water.”
“It was first seen on radar and once I saw it on radar, I wanted to confirm visually what I was seeing on radar if it was clouds and atmospherics and something else.”
Wiggins then moved out to the core bridge wing of the USS Jackson and went through his mental checklist of things the object could be — but was convinced by an odd maneuver it made that it was not standard human technology.
“It [was] rising into the air high enough to where I’m like, alright, that’s definitely: A. too fast and B. not something I’ve seen before,” the 21-year Navy veteran said.
The keen-eyed officer saw three other objects moving in coordination roughly 8 nautical miles away from the USS Jackson — then reported the unknown objects to a tactical officer and rushed to observe the craft on a Sapphire radar.
A video recording of the Sapphire radar tracking was published by George Knapp and Jeremy Corbell on the Weaponized Podcast in April.
“From the video, that’s what you get, you see that original Tic-Tac object that I visually saw off the port bridge wing,” Wiggins said.
The clip showed an oval-shaped black spot on the radar moving up and down with apparent ease — and then rendezvousing with three other similarly shaped crafts.
“In utilizing the Saphire system, you’re able to see silhouettes and heat signatures of different objects.
So, in relation to the tic-tacs – once it went away at near instantaneous speed, we had some skeptics in ICC-1,” Wiggins said of the other Navy men on the bridge.
At least one of the radar operators claimed the object was likely a plane, but Wiggins said he knew what he saw.
Then an actual plane passed by on the radar and its form was clearly visible, unlike the tic-tac-like figures they had just observed.
“About 30, 45 seconds pass, and I see an incoming or a passing by commercial aircraft. And so I tell the CSM, slew into that aircraft around the same location, and lo and behold, you see the air signature coming off the back.
You see the wings perfectly. You see the tailwing. The side wings. You see the shape of the nose of the aircraft. You see it perfectly.”
“It was kind of like ‘Checkmate,’ and he sat back down,” Wiggins said. “Even if I were to second-guess myself [before], I no longer could.”
