I absolutely don’t believe Kirk was shot with a .308 or 30-06.

Here I have a back to back Audio comparison of the Kirk Shot vs a 9mm Carbine Rifle.

Keep in mind this me shot is in an urban environment and the other is in the woods. They may have slightly different powder counts between the different types of ammunition but this is almost and identical sound

And here I have a chart for caliber size entry va exit wounds and I’ve scaled the 9mm hole using my own round and you can see roughly the exit wound is around 5/8” in diameter
