Residents are being told to immediately evacuate to the south. Huge lines of vehicles packed with families' belongings could be seen scrambling to get out of the war-ravaged city.

The Gaza City assault is expected to worsen the Strip's already horrific internal refugee crisis and food crisis, after the UN and various monitoring groups have confirmed famine in some sectors. Dozens if not hundreds of civilians have already died of starvation.

Interestingly, amid anti-Netanyahu protests in major cities and even near his personal residence, some Israeli reservists are revolting, intentionally failing to report for duty. Haaretz earlier this month reported that some 350 Israeli reservists signed a statement opposing the takeover of Gaza City and renewed military assault there.

Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, a UN commission of inquiry said in a report published on Tuesday.

According to the findings, Israel has committed four of the five genocidal acts defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention since the start of its war with Hamas in 2023. These include killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions of life aimed at destroying Palestinians in whole or in part, and imposing measures to prevent births.

“The commission finds that Israel is responsible for the commission of genocide in Gaza,” Navi Pillay, chair of the UN body, said at a press conference in Geneva. “It is clear that there is an intent to destroy the Palestinians in Gaza through acts that meet the criteria set forth in the Genocide Convention.”

Pillay blamed “Israeli authorities at the highest echelons” for “these atrocity crimes,” saying they “have orchestrated a genocidal campaign for almost two years now with the specific intent to destroy the Palestinian group in Gaza.” She added that Israeli authorities have also failed to prevent or punish those responsible by not investigating or prosecuting the perpetrators of genocidal acts.

On Tuesday, September 16, a huge group of 250 American State Legislators gathered in southern Israel for a unique ceremony. They had come to plant trees in Park Ofakim. However, this wasn’t a normal tree planting in Israel. There were fifty saplings, one for each state in the American Union.

Flags fluttered in the breeze, from Hawaii to Arizona, Idaho to Montana. “Seeing elected officials from all 50 US states planting trees together in our country, each tree becomes a symbol of love for the land and of the profound connection that unites us,” KKL-JNF World Chairwoman Ifat Ovadia-Luski said.

Park Ofakim sits at the end of a road in the city of Ofakim in southern Israel. The main street in the town is busy. However, almost two years ago, Ofakim was one of the targets of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. Thirty-three people were killed in the city, including six police.

Many other residents of the city also became casualties in and around the border of Gaza. Park Ofakim is therefore a unique symbol of Israel’s resilience. For the members of the state legislatures in this large delegation, it was important to see this part of Israel.

Hamas is the party that has attempted genocide, due to its October 7 massacre and "openly declaring its goal of killing every Jew," the ministry stated.

"Miraculously, all three authors of this fabricated report have recently resigned. They should not be replaced," the statement continued.
