Because the media was going with the narrative that it was a maga shooter. And the white hats wrested that from them immediately to make a narrative that would 1) wake people up 2) give them a route to get to the deep state through antifa 3) keep the black hats planned rioting and hate and destruction from happening.
It’s not lying, so much as it is preemptive strike narrative. We still get to know the truth because we’re that good, the already-awakened get to see the smoke and mirrors, and it saves the country and the world from the effects of the deep state nuclear propaganda.
Where would this have gone if their narrative had been successful? Open season on maga for one- boom- we see how they are prepared for an armed war.
