7 men arrested in Hartford human trafficking ring, 3 girls rescued

Seven men have been arrested and three teenage girls rescued after cops busted a human trafficking operation in Hartford, authorities said Wednesday.

The suspects were charged with a range of crimes, including kidnapping, sexual assault, human trafficking and possession of child porn, the Hartford Police Department said.

“The investigation remains ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated,” Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert told the Connecticut Post.

Ahmad Compton, 36, and James Williams, 35, were each charged with three counts of trafficking in persons, three counts of kidnapping and three counts of first-degree sexual assault, local ABC affiliate WTNH reported.

Raheem Jones, 50, was accused of kidnapping and human trafficking, according to local NBC affiliate WVIT.

Donovan Dun, 19, was hit with the most charges: human trafficking, sexual assault, possession of child sex abuse material, strangulation and enticing a minor for an obscene performance, WTNH reported. While the other six suspects were arrested in Connecticut, Dun was nabbed in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Tyrod Jackson, 19, and Tahjay Wilson, 20, were charged with three counts of sexual assault, according to local Fox affiliate WTIC. Bernard Mickens, 38, was charged with sexual assault and kidnapping, but not human trafficking.

Cops said the investigation began in May and culminated in all seven suspects being arrested by Tuesday. The victims have been returned to their families and will not be publicly identified, cops said.

A special-needs teacher has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after repeatedly having sex with a mentally ill student from the private school where she worked.

Sandy Carazas-Pinez, 36, a mother of three from Bethel, Connecticut, learned her fate on September 19 after previously pleaded guilty to enticing a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.

Carazas-Pinez abused the 16-year-old student, who is not being named to protect their identity, from November 2022 to February 2023 at Biondi School in Yonkers, New York, according to the US Attorney's Office.

The teacher repeatedly met with the student in her car to have sex.

She also sent explicit photos and coerced the teen into sexually explicit live-streamed video calls, which she referred to as 'gifts,' the court was told.

Investigators and police compiled sordid text messages between the pair that laid bare the extent of the abuse.

'I do miss your touch and kisses, not going to lie… I sound like a pervert,' Carazas-Pinez said in a message first published by the New York Post in 2023.

'I usually go for much older men. Yeah, you're the crazy exception.'

Rusk County man convicted of toddler’s ‘exorcism’ death set to be executed

A Rusk County convicted of beating a toddler to death with a hammer in 2008 is set for execution on Thursday.

Blaine Keith Milam, 36, and his then girlfriend Jessica Carson, were first arrested in 2008 when officers found 13-month-old Amora Carson dead after the couple called 911.

Autopsy reports found that Milam and Carson had bitten and struck the toddler with a hammer during an “exorcism,” believing she was possessed by demons.

Rusk County officials said the couple originally gave police different stories about what had happened, including that the baby had been in a car accident, that dogs had bitten the baby, or that she had hit herself.

Milam was sentenced to death in 2010 after an eight-hour jury deliberation, which followed a 10-hour deliberation for his conviction.

He was set to be executed in 2019 before a judge granted a temporary stay. The execution was rescheduled for January 2021 before being moved again.

At the time of the arrest, Rusk County law enforcement said it was the worst crime scene they had ever seen.

Milam is currently being held in Texas Department of Criminal Justice Polunsky Unit.

The German government intends to earmark nearly €83 billion ($98 billion) on weapons over the course of the next year, Politico reported on Tuesday, citing Berlin's military procurement plan.

Politico, which claims to have seen the document drawn up for the German parliament's budget committee, identified the domestic F-127 frigate program as the single most expensive item on the list, which is projected to cost some €26 billion. California is one pen stroke away from enacting a controversial bill that would impose fines of up to $1 million on major social media platforms that fail to censor content deemed in violation of state civil rights laws.

On Monday, SB 771 passed bother chambers of the state legislature, where it now sits on Governor Gavin Newsom's desk awaiting his signature.

While critics warn that the measure will lead to EU-style censorship of lawful speech, state Democrats justify the bill by citing "rising incidents of hate-motivated harm," including "hate crimes involving anti-immigrant slurs."

Nothing about violent leftist groups targeting conservatives, of course.

"Courts have recognized that algorithms are protected by the First Amendment, so punishing sites for using algorithms to deliver free speech would run into problems," Weissmann continued. "Further, the law doesn’t limit which kinds of algorithms would cause platforms to be held liable for user speech. This means even showing content in the order it was posted would have this effect under the law, as ‘reverse chronological order’ is an algorithm."

Opponents call BS

"By exposing these companies to civil liability for content they do not remove, SB 771 creates a chilling effect on their editorial discretion. The significant, prescribed civil penalties — potentially amounting to the billions for each violation — would lead platforms to over-remove lawful content to mitigate legal exposure," the California Chamber of Commerce, the Computer and Communications Industry Association and TechNet wrote in their opposition to the bill.

"This violates the First Amendment rights of users and social media platforms."

India and China are the world’s most populous countries today, and the UN projects that both will remain at the top through the end of the century.

Yet their trajectories diverge sharply in these projections.

China’s population has already begun to fall and is projected to more than halve to around 630 million by 2100. India, by contrast, is expected to keep growing for nearly four more decades, reaching about 1.7 billion people in 2060 and gradually declining to around 1.5 billion.

In contrast, the United States and Europe are projected to change more gradually. The US is expected to grow slowly and steadily, reaching about 420 million people by the end of the century. Judge Refuses to Reinstate 8 Inspectors General Fired by Trump – After Ripping Into Their Lawyers and Threatening Sanctions!

A federal judge on Wednesday refused to reinstate eight inspectors general who were fired by Trump and sued to regain their jobs.

Judge Ana Reyes, a Biden appointee, said President Trump violated the law by firing the inspectors general, but she has no authority to reinstate them.

“[Under] well-established case law that this Court is bound to follow, Plaintiffs must show irreparable harm. And they cannot. Even assuming that the IGA comports with Article II, Plaintiffs’ inability to perform their duties for 30 days is not irreparable harm. Moreover, if the IGs were reinstated, the President could lawfully remove them after 30 days by providing the required notice and rationale to Congress,” Judge Reyes wrote.

President Trump earlier this year fired over a dozen inspectors general in a late night purge shortly after he was sworn into office.

The eight fired inspectors general sued to get their jobs back and argued that Trump violated a questionable law passed by Congress in 2022.

The law requires a US president to notify Congress 30 days before firing an inspector general and to explain in detail the reason for the termination.

Judge Ana Reyes previously ripped into lawyers for the fired inspectors general suing to get their jobs back.

Real Clear Politics reporter Susan Crabtree explained that many of these IGs, who are in a position to identify and clean up waste and abuse, have long histories of whitewashing reports and playing politics.

President Trump kept current Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari Jr., who is conducting multiple investigations into the Secret Service failures that led to two assassination attempts on President Trump’s life.

Trump also kept IG Michael Horowitz, who has a record of whitewashing reports and excusing criminal acts by far-left officials.
