The standard of home building is to construct a house with paper and wood. Many homes have shingles made of wood, too.
One of the most familiar children's stories is
"The Three Little Pigs"
who learn the hard way that to keep the wolf from the door
you can't build with straw or twigs
you must build with bricks.
"Then I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in,"
And, thus in every natural disaster
hurricanes, tornadoes, hail, earthquakes,and fire
our homes get destroyed.
We can build beautiful homes that are resistant to these disasters.
Straw bale homes are covered with adobe
and such construction is so stable
that homes do not need constant air conditioning or heating
and can withstand many natural threats.
So why do we still build with paper and wood?
Our homes are addicted from birth
to fossil fuels.
And they suck the life out of relief agencies.
Methinks? methinks it is no real accident.
We should be building with adobe and stone and slate.
So sad to see people lose their homes.
