Kiev targets nuclear plant during IAEA chief’s Moscow visit

25 Sep, 2025 22:59

Kiev attempted to strike the Kursk II nuclear power plant with a drone on Thursday, while International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi was praising Russian technological achievements during a visit to Moscow.

Kursk Region Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein said the UAV hit one of the auxiliary buildings at the NPP construction site in the city of Kurchatov, leaving the walls pocked with shrapnel but causing no fire or casualties.

The plant operator, Rosenergoatom, said the facility continued to operate normally and that radiation levels remained stable.

The attack came as IAEA Director General Grossi was attending the Global Atomic Forum, where he highlighted Russia’s role as a “pioneer” in fields such as floating NPPs, nuclear-powered shipping, and fusion research.

He invited Russian firms to join an IAEA conference on artificial intelligence in the nuclear industry in Vienna this December, and suggested that his agency explore a partnership with the BRICS New Development Bank.

Later in the day, Grossi met with President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin, where the two discussed global nuclear safety and Russia’s cooperation with the IAEA. Putin praised the agency’s work and pledged Moscow’s continued support.

“We will do everything in our power to support your activities,” Putin told Grossi, who recently announced his candidacy to become the next UN Secretary General.

The Kursk strike follows repeated attacks on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, the largest facility of its kind in Europe, which this week switched to backup diesel generators for the tenth time since coming under Russia’s control in 2022.

Russian officials have accused Kiev of “nuclear terrorism,” warning that these incidents could have catastrophic consequences.

Rosatom head Aleksey Likhachev told journalists on the sidelines of the forum that Grossi was “well aware” of where the attacks on Russian nuclear facilities originate, but suggested that the IAEA chief was constrained in what he could say officially.

“In person, he makes quite adequate assessments, believe me,” Likhachev said.

Germany accuses Russia of ‘shadowing’ satellites

26 Sep, 2025 08:17

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has accused Russia of “shadowing” communications satellites used by his country’s military while unveiling a €35 billion ($41 billion) five-year investment plan for Berlin’s space program.

Speaking on Thursday at the 3rd German Space Congress, Pistorius warned that Russia and China are able to wage war in space. “They can jam, blind, manipulate, or kinetically disrupt satellites,” he said.

Pistorius claimed the German armed forces have already been targeted by jamming attacks and specifically accused Russian “Luch/Olimp” satellites of shadowing two Intelsat satellites which are used by the German military for communications.

His remarks echoed earlier allegations made by France. In 2018, then-French Defense Minister Florence Parly accused Russia of using a “Luch/Olimp” satellite to try to intercept signals from the French-Italian Athena-Fidus satellite.

Intelsat also condemned maneuvers by the same craft as dangerous after it allegedly approached Intelsat 7 and Intelsat 901 satellites.

Pistorius is a strong supporter of the European Union’s push for the militarization of the economic bloc, which would involve member states borrowing heavily to boost arms production and enlarge standing armies.

Moscow has dismissed claims that the investment is required to counter a Russian threat as fear-driven rhetoric meant to deflect attention from mounting domestic problems within the bloc.

The original Luch-series satellite that was suspected of gathering signal intelligence – also designated Olimp-K – was launched in September 2014; another was boosted into orbit in March 2023.

Russian forces destroy Ukrainian naval drones – MOD

26 Sep, 2025 11:41

The Russian Navy has eliminated 23 Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea over the past seven days, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said in its daily briefing on Friday.

The ministry released a clip showing incoming unmanned boats being blown up by gunfire and with the use of the Lancet loitering munitions.

Ukraine deployed autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) along with the UAVs during its large-scale drone raid on the coastal cities of Novorossiysk and Tuapse in Russia’s Krasnodar Region on Wednesday.

The attack resulted in two people being killed in Novorossiysk and 14 others injured in both cities.

The threat of naval drones also prompted the evacuation of tourists from 180 beaches in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Netanyahu addresses UN General Assembly: As it happened

26 Sep, 2025 12:55

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has addressed the United Nations General Assembly on the war in Gaza, amid global pressure to end the ongoing offensive in the enclave.

As he began his speech, dozens of UN delegates walked out of the room in protest. A total of 157 out of 193 UN nations currently recognize the Palestinian state.

Two UN Security Council members, France and the UK, joined ten other members this week to recognize Palestine, ratcheting up pressure on the Israeli PM.

Netanyahu dubbed the wave of recognitions as “shameful, sheer madness, and insane.”

“What you’re doing is giving the ultimate reward to intolerant fanatics who perpetrated and supported the Sabbath massacre.

Giving the Palestinians a state one mile from Jerusalem after October 7 is like giving al-Qaeda a state one mile from New York City after September 11,” he claimed.

Netanyahu vowed to “finish the job” of eliminating Hamas militias in Gaza, also referring to a QR code on his jacket that links to the October 7 atrocities website.

A UN commission of inquiry ruled last week that Israel is “responsible for genocide in Gaza,” citing killings, serious physical and mental harm, the deliberate imposition of life-threatening conditions, and measures aimed at preventing births.

Over 68,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in the Israeli operation in Gaza, which was launched in response to a deadly incursion by Hamas into the Jewish state on October 2023.

Netanyahu has denied the accusations of genocide and slammed the countries that recognized Palestine, saying that they were “handing a huge reward to terror.”

14:58 GMT

Netanyahu has claimed that the long suffering Iranian people will make Iran great again and “our two ancient peoples will restore a friendship that will benefit the entire world.”

"Our beloved homeland for over 3,000 years, the dream of having an army to defend ourselves and the dream of being a light onto the nations a beacon of progress and ingenuity for all of humanity.

On October 7 the enemies of Israel tried to extinguish that light. Two years later the resolve and strength of Israel burns brighter than ever."

"With God's help that strength and that resolve will lead us to a speedy victory and brighter future of prosperity and peace," he added.

14:57 GMT

“Last month even the UN admitted that Hamas looted 85% of the aid trucks, thats why you have deprivation,” Netanyahu has claimed.

14:50 GMT

“Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium must be eliminated and UN Security Council restrictions on Iran must be snapped back,” Netanyahu has said.

14:40 GMT

Netanyahu instructed the IDF to hook up loudspeakers throughout Gaza so that his speech to the UN General Assembly would be broadcast live to its residents.

"Thanks to Israeli intelligence my words are being streamed live to Gaza. So to Hamas leaders I say lay down your arms. Let my people go. Free the hostages now!

If you do you will love, if you don’t Israel will hunt you down. If Hamas agrees to our demands the war could end right now. Gaza would be demilitarized. Israel would retain over-riding security control."

According to Channel 12, the army voiced opposition to the order as it would “require soldiers to leave their posts and enter areas of the Gaza Strip that put them at increased risk of being targeted by Hamas operatives.”

Reporters for the New York Times, however, said that none of the people living in the Palestinian enclave have so far heard Netanyahu’s speech.

Russian drone strike on Kharkiv shopping center injures 4, officials say

September 26, 2025 6:52 pm

Russian drone hit a shopping center in Kharkiv's Kyivskyi district on Sept. 26, injuring four people, local officials said.

Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, lies about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Russian border and has been a frequent target of airstrikes since the full-scale invasion began.

Kharkiv Oblast Governor Oleh Syniehubov said the drone struck the roof of a furniture store, injuring four people.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed the strike, saying the drone involved was preliminarily identified as a Russian-made "Molniya." He said all four injured people were receiving medical care.

Terekhov added that Russian drones also damaged a municipal bus that was carrying passengers nearby. No bus passengers were reported injured.

Hungarian drones breach Ukraine's airspace, Zelensky says

Updated: September 26, 2025 8:19 pm

President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sept. 26 that reconnaissance drones likely belonging to Hungary had violated Ukraine's airspace along the border. This is the first such reported incident.

In a statement posted on X, Zelensky said Ukrainian forces recorded drone incursions over border areas and that preliminary assessments suggest the unmanned aircraft were "conducting reconnaissance on the industrial potential of Ukraine's border areas."

"I instructed that all available information be verified and that urgent reports be made on each recorded incident," Zelensky said.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto dismissed Zelensky's remarks, writing on X that "President Zelensky is losing his mind to his anti-Hungarian obsession. He's now starting to see things that aren't there."

"We are starting to see a lot of things, Peter, including your government's hypocrisy and moral degradation, open and covert work against Ukraine and the rest of Europe, serving as a Kremlin lackey," Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha responded.

In his briefing, Zelensky also said Ukraine's military downed a Russian Su-34 jet over Zaporizhzhia and reported progress in the Dobropillia counteroffensive in Donetsk Oblast, claiming the liberation of nearly 169 square kilometers (65 square miles) of territory and heavy Russian personnel losses.

The claim over Hungarian drones comes amid heightened security concerns along NATO's eastern flank, where Russian drones have previously crossed into Romania and Poland, triggering a NATO response in the latter.

Hungary and Slovakia were not invited to a Sept. 26 high-level video conference on building a "drone wall" along the EU's eastern border, European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier told Suspilne on Sept. 22.

Hungary and Slovakia, both of which have maintained closer ties with Russia since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, have frequently resisted tougher EU measures against Moscow.

Ukrainian Drones Hit Major Oil Refinery in Southern Russia for Second Time in a Month

September 26, 2025

Ukrainian drones struck the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region for the second time in a month, regional authorities said Thursday.

Debris from one of the drones fell on a refinery unit, sparking a fire that covered 30 square meters before being quickly extinguished, the regional crisis center said. No casualties were reported.

The Afipsky refinery, one of the largest in southern Russia, has a processing capacity of 9.1 million tons of crude a year and operates two primary processing units.

It was previously targeted by drones on Aug. 28, weeks after an earlier strike on Aug. 7 forced the shutdown of one unit. Drones also hit the nearby Krasnodar refinery, which is linked to Afipsky, on Aug. 30.

Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian oil infrastructure since early August, disabling at least five major refineries.

Reuters calculations show the strikes have cut Russian refining capacity by 17%, or about 1.1 million barrels per day.

Industry sources told the Kommersant business daily that gasoline output has fallen by roughly 10%.

More than 300 filling stations across Russia have closed, while many regions have introduced rationing of 10-20 liters per customer. Wholesale gasoline prices have jumped 40-50% since the start of the year.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said U.S. President Donald Trump had backed the strikes on Russian energy facilities, describing Washington’s stance as an “eye-for-an-eye” policy.

After meeting Zelensky, Trump told reporters Russia faced a fuel crisis and “major problems” with its economy.

Third suspicious drone incident this week forces Denmark to close Aalborg airspace

September 26, 2025 10:33 am

The airspace above Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark was closed overnight on Sept. 26 after police reported an unidentified drone, Danish television channel TV2 said.

It marked the third such disruption in less than a week.

Police said a drone sighting was reported at 11:40 p.m., leading to a one-hour suspension of all departures and arrivals. Several flights were canceled, and two inbound planes were diverted.

"We have had a massive presence out there all day, and it is one of our own people who discovered something that looks like a drone," North Jutland Police Chief Christian Tilsted said.

"We have thoroughly investigated the area, and we have not found anything." The incident follows a series of similar disruptions.

On Sept. 24, Aalborg Airport — located near a Danish military base — suspended operations after drones were detected, prompting Copenhagen to consider invoking NATO's Article 4.

Drones forced Copenhagen Airport, the busiest hub in northern Europe, to suspend operations on Sept. 22. Norwegian officials also temporarily closed Oslo Airport after sightings of drones in the airspace.

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said the origin of the drones remains unclear, adding there is no evidence linking them directly to Russia.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said the incidents must be seen in the broader context of cyberattacks on European airports and Russian incursions into NATO territory.

The unexplained drone flights coincide with a rise in Russian military violations of allied airspace.

Three Russian MiG-31 jets entered Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland on Sept. 19, prompting Tallinn to request NATO consultations under Article 4.

Poland also shot down Russian drones during a mass strike on Ukraine, marking the first time since the full-scale invasion that NATO engaged Russian assets directly over its territory.

Romania reported a similar violation on Sept. 13, scrambling two F-16s after detecting a Russian drone entering its airspace during a strike on Ukraine.

NATO also scrambled two Eurofighter jets on Sept. 21 after detecting a Russian Il-20M reconnaissance plane flying without a filed plan over the Baltic Sea.

The alliance has reinforced defenses with its Eastern Sentry mission amid rising provocations.

Flights halted briefly at Vilnius Airport over suspected drone activity

2025.09.26 15:27

Flight operations at Vilnius Airport were briefly suspended on Friday following reports of a possible drone sighting, Lithuanian Airports (LTOU) has said.

Departures and arrivals resumed around ten minutes later, according to the LTOU spokesman.

"At around 12:30 p.m., Vilnius Airport received a drone sighting report from Oro navigacija (national air traffic service provider – ELTA)," Tadas Vasiliauskas told ELTA.

"Takeoffs and landings were suspended for around 10 minutes, with only minimal disruption to two flights.

Normal operations resumed at approximately 12:40 p.m.," he said. It is not the first time Vilnius Airport has been closed over suspicious objects.

A similar incident occurred on Thursday, with other cases also reported on 9 and 11 September.

Denmark says it is not seeking NATO Article 4 consultations over drones

September 26, 20258:12 AM PDT Updated

Denmark has no plans to invoke NATO's Article 4 clause on security consultations, its foreign minister said on Friday, after drone incursions shut down air traffic in various parts of the country several times this week.

Copenhagen Airport, the Nordic region's busiest, closed for several hours late on Monday as several large drones were seen in its airspace.

Five smaller airports, both civilian and military, were also shut temporarily in the following days.

FIVE HUNDRED drone sightings are reported in Denmark as Scandinavia battles to contain 'Russian incursions'

Updated: 10:50 EDT, 26 September 2025

Members of the public in Denmark have recorded over 500 possible drone sightings in the past 24 hours, after Scandinavia was targetted in a series of aerial attacks that some European officials have linked to Russia.

The population is full of fear following the drone incursions that shut down two of the country's airports on Wednesday night in what has been described by officials as a 'systematic operation' and a 'hybrid attack'.

It was the second incident in two days following Monday night's drone disruption over Copenhagen airport that interfered with around 100 flights and left 20,000 passengers stranded.

As officials continue to investigate who the 'professional actor' behind the attacks might be, civilians in Denmark are anxiously looking up at the skies in anticipation of more unwanted aerial incidents.

The police are yet to confirm any of the 500 reported sightings, but are encouraging Danes to keep their eyes peeled and provide the authorities with detailed descriptions of anything they might see, reported TV 2.

It comes as European ministers are scrambling to draw up plans for a continent-wide 'drone wall' to counter Moscow's aerial incursions, as the Kremlin warns that any strike on its aircraft would result in direct conflict with NATO.

Nations including Denmark, Finland, Poland and the Baltic states will join Ukraine at a summit today to thrash out plans for what EU chief Ursula von der Leyen has described as 'the bedrock of credible defence.'

The Kremlin has been accused of launching a campaign of hybrid attacks across Europe, exposing the vulnerability of the continent's airspace at a time of high tensions between Moscow and NATO.

Poland, which has already brought down Vladimir Putin's drones in recent weeks, has vowed it will down any hostile objects over Ukraine under fast-tracked laws giving the military greater freedom to act.

However, in a chilling escalation, Russia's ambassador to France warned that shooting down its planes 'would be war.' On Thursday, the country's foreign minister also accused NATO of waging 'real war' on it and claimed the organisation was directly involved in its conflict with Ukraine.

The ministers' meeting in Brussels is expected to focus on creating joint systems to detect and destroy drones that threaten civilian and military infrastructure.

The European Commission has indicated that the cost of the wall could be covered by its €150bn Security Action for Europe loans scheme.

Danish defence minister Troels Lund Poulsen said his country had already been targetted after multiple airports were disrupted by drones on the same night.

The incursions forced Aalborg airport, used for commercial and military flights, to shut for three hours, while Billund airport, Denmark's second-largest, was closed for an hour.

Drones were also seen near Esbjerg and Sonderborg airports, as well as Skrydstrup airbase, home to Denmark's F-16 and F-35 fighter jets, and over a military facility in Holstebro.

Poulsen said: 'There can be no doubt that everything points to this being the work of a professional actor when we are talking about such a systematic operation in so many locations at virtually the same time.

'This is what I would define as a hybrid attack using different types of drones. This is an arms race against time because technology is constantly evolving.'

Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen has spoken to NATO secretary general Mark Rutte about 'the serious situation related to drones over Danish airports.'

Rutte said: 'NATO allies and Denmark are working together on how we can ensure the safety and security of our critical infrastructure.'

Officials concede that spotting drones is a huge challenge. Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier said: 'One thing that we will have to do is detect these incoming drones. This is not super-easy to do.

'We're not talking about big fighter jets and planes coming in. No, we are talking about the latest technology developments. These drones have to be detected, and then, second track [will be to decide] what will we do to fight back against these drones.'

Police in Denmark are investigating whether some of the drones were launched from ships off the coast, with two Russian vessels seen in the area at the time.

Moscow's embassy in Copenhagen dismissed suggestions of involvement as 'absurd' and described the incidents as a 'staged provocation' designed to escalate tensions.

Justice minister Peter Hummelgaard warned that 'the threat from hybrid attacks is here to stay' and described the recent events as 'deeply worrying incidents across Europe.' He said new laws would give infrastructure owners the right to bring drones down themselves.

While Europe debates new defences, Polish prime minister Donald Tusk has warned 'the situation brings us the closest we have been to open conflict since World War Two' and confirmed that Warsaw will act if its skies are violated.

He said: 'We will take the decision to shoot down flying objects when they violate our territory and fly over Poland - there is absolutely no discussion about that.'

Earlier this month, Poland shot down three Russian drones that crossed into NATO territory, the first time such action has been taken since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Tusk said Poland would also remain cautious in more ambiguous cases.

He said: 'When we're dealing with situations that aren't entirely clear, such as the recent flight of Russian fighter jets over the Petrobaltic platform - but without any violation, because these aren't our territorial waters - you really need to think twice before deciding on actions that could trigger a very acute phase of conflict.'

He added: 'I also need to be absolutely certain… that all allies will treat this in exactly the same way as we do.'

The threat of escalation has been underscored by Moscow. Alexey Meshkov, Russian Ambassador to France, told RTL: 'You know, there are many NATO planes that violate Russian airspace, deliberately or not, but it happens quite often. They are not shot down afterward.'

Denying Russia was behind the drone attacks, he added: 'Russia doesn't do that, play with anyone. It's not really our thing.' He claimed the West had 'fooled' Moscow 'on many occasions'.

Asked about the possibility of NATO bringing down Russian planes, he chillingly said: 'It would be war.' His words came after US president Donald Trump told the United Nations that NATO states could shoot down Russian aircraft if they intruded on their airspace.

Meanwhile, speaking at the G20 foreign ministers summit on Thursday, Sergei Lavrov said: 'Another clear example is the crisis in Ukraine provoked by the West, through which NATO and the EU have… already declared a real war on my country and are directly involved in it.'

The sense of crisis has grown across the continent. Estonia reported three Russian fighter jets entering its skies last Friday, while Romania said one of its border areas was struck by a drone days earlier.

European officials called these moves deliberate provocations intended to unsettle NATO. With peace efforts going nowhere, many fear the conflict in Ukraine could spill over into neighbouring countries at any moment.

Britain has also been drawn in - the Royal Navy dispatched HMS Iron Duke and a Wildcat helicopter to shadow the Russian frigate RFN Neustrashimy and the cargo ship Sparta IV through the Channel.

Defence minister Luke Pollard said: 'Russian warships are increasingly transiting through the English Channel. The Royal Navy protects the UK 24/7 to monitor Russian movements, ensuring the security of our waters and undersea cables.

Alongside our commitment to NATO's Eastern Sentry, this is a clear demonstration of how the UK stands firm with our NATO allies to deter Russian aggression.'

Across Europe, officials believe the Kremlin is deliberately walking a tightrope, staging incidents that fall short of an outright attack but still force NATO to respond.

IAF hits over 140 terror targets amid advance into Gaza City

Sept. 26, 2025

The Israeli Air Forces struck more than 140 targets across the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, including terrorists, tunnel shafts and military infrastructure, the IDF announced on Friday.

As part of operations in the Gaza City area, Israeli troops dismantled above- and below-ground infrastructure and uncovered weapons along with numerous explosive devices planted in the area, the military said.

Separately, Israeli forces spotted a terrorist carrying a booby-trapped object nearby and called in an airstrike, which triggered secondary explosions indicating the presence of additional arms.

“We are intensifying pressure on the Hamas terrorist organization and advancing according to a structured and systematic plan to achieve the war’s objectives,” IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said on Thursday.

The IDF announced on Thursday that it killed Wael Mutrieh, a Nukhba platoon commander in Hamas’s Shati Battalion, in a strike in the Shati area of Gaza City.

According to the IDF, Mutrieh participated in the Oct. 7, 2023, infiltration of the Nahal Oz outpost bomb shelter and, during the war, was responsible for planning and carrying out attacks against Israeli soldiers in Gaza.

Defrin revealed that as part of the second phase of Operation Gideon’s Chariots, the IDF has targeted more than 2,000 terror assets across the Strip, with the air force conducting over 100 daily strikes using fighter jets, drones and helicopters—often in support of Israeli ground forces and on an “unprecedented scale.”

He said that the expanded ground operations are being carried out alongside humanitarian efforts, noting that about 700,000 Gaza City residents have evacuated to a designated safe zone in the south of the enclave.

Defrin also highlighted the plight of the 48 captives still held by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. “The hostages are always at the forefront of our thoughts and at the heart of every operation we conduct,” he said.

“The IDF will continue to act with strength and responsibility until the war’s objectives are achieved: the return of the hostages and the dismantling of the Hamas regime,” he added.

PM’s office claims IDF has ‘taken control’ of cell phones in Gaza to stream UN speech; no confirmation of claim

September 26, 2025 4:42 pm

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office claims that the IDF has “taken control of the phones” of Palestinian civilians and Hamas operatives in Gaza, and his UN speech is “now being broadcast live via those devices.”

Gaza residents reportedly received text messages with a link to Netanyahu’s speech, and there is no immediate confirmation of devices being taken over.

In his speech, Netanyahu addresses Palestinians in Gaza — in English — saying that the war in Gaza can end immediately with the return of the hostages, the disarmament of Hamas, and the demilitarization of the Strip.

Netanyahu’s speech is also broadcast live via loudspeakers, some on the border with Gaza, operated by a civilian company, and some deep in the Strip, which were placed by the IDF at military encampments.

It also engages in the suppression of opponents of the regime using political prisons and torture," the IDF said. "The military camps that were attacked are used by the terrorist regime to store weapons and for planning and carrying out terrorist plots against the State of Israel."

Since March 18, when Israel resumed its campaign against Hamas following a temporary cease-fire, Yemen's Iran-backed Houthis have launched more than 70 ballistic missiles and over 25 drones at Israel.

Most were either intercepted or fell short of Israeli territory. Since Hamas's October 7 attack, the terror group has fired more than 200 missiles and 170 drones.

From bases along the Yemeni coast, the Iran-backed Houthis have attacked or harassed more than 100 ships in the Red Sea as they traversed the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, a narrow maritime chokepoint between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa.

Much of the world's oil passes through the Strait from the Indian Ocean toward the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea. The Houthi attacks have brought the Port of Eilat to a standstill.

Approximately 1,200 people were killed, and 252 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage in Hamas's attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7. Of the 48 remaining hostages, about 20 are believed to be alive.

Military Divers Claimed They Found an Underwater UFO Crash Site—But They Spent Decades Sworn to Secrecy

Sep 25, 2025 6:08 PM EDT

On the evening of October 4, 1967, a group of teens near Canada’s Shag Harbour noticed strange orange lights in the sky plummeting toward the Atlantic ocean, hovering just above the water’s surface.

They reported the incident to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, thinking it a devastating plane crash. When the Coast Guard arrived at the scene, the only evidence of the unidentified anomalous phenomenon was yellow foam in the water.

Some witnesses thought the lights sinking into the sea caused the strange material to appear.

The next day, divers investigated the scene without any proof of aliens—or even a pedestrian plane crash, for that matter—which would make it seem like the case was cold.

But when Chris Styles, a longtime ufologist, began poking around 33 years later, eyewitnesses kept asking him the same question: “You know about Shelburne, don’t you?”

For most ufologists, the prospect of another anomalous incident would be like an early Christmas present.

But for Styles, it was more of a headache. He explained in an interview on the podcast UFO Live Shows that he didn’t want Shag Harbour to become another Roswell, the infamously confusing incident in the United States, which sparked a conspiracy theory among UFO proponents that recovered materials found in Roswell, New Mexico—including foil and rubber debris—were from an extraterrestrial spacecraft.

Upon further investigation, Styles realized the “Shelburne” incident referred to a 1960s NATO minesweeping exercise off the coast of McNabs Island, a small island in Nova Scotia, Canada.

According to Styles, the U.S. ships had travelled ahead along the Shelburne harbor coast, laying an eight-mile-long path of dummy mines for the exercise.

The minesweepers would then come in and clear the entire course—at least that’s what was supposed to happen.

Witnesses of the minesweeping mission said everything was going as planned for about an hour—that is, until “all hell broke loose” and divers were deployed into the water, Styles recalls in the podcast.

“There was no doubt what we were dealing with off of Shelburne,” Styles writes in his 2023 book, Sweep Clear 5: NATO’s UFO Encounter, quoting three Royal Canadian divers.

“There were UFOs sitting on the seabed. They were occupied and there was still activity. One was trying to help the other, which was damaged.”

Following yet more research, Styles says in the interview that he came across records indicating the ships initiated DEFCON 1—the highest level of readiness for war—about 90 minutes into the mission.

And it wasn’t surprising the witnesses mistook details of the exercise, like how long before things went wrong, or used ambiguous language when describing what they’d seen.

According to the divers, they’d been sworn to secrecy for more than three decades. “They ordered us to the surface and ordered us to forget what we’d seen,” the divers say in Sweep Clear 5.

“Then the alarms sounded upon the command ship and panic broke out.”

As he continued his interviews, Styles began prying for more information from witnesses. He recounts on the podcast that one Air Force veteran in particular claimed to have listened to the divers talking each night.

Styles says the airman remembered hearing his shipmates discuss two flying saucers lying on the ocean floor beneath the ship. T

hat same veteran said talk continued until the end of the mission, when a U.S. Navy officer suggested the divers should stop talking about the “Soviet submarine” they were investigating, implying the vessels the men had seen weren’t extraterrestrial.

In the podcast interview, Styles claimed his editors pushed him to link his findings about what went down at Shelburne with the Shag Harbour incident.

After all, in his other book, Dark Object: The World’s Only Government-Documented UFO Crash, he and co-author Don Leger hypothesize that the UFO which allegedly crashed at Shag Harbour travelled 25 miles away underwater, where it was met by another extraterrestrial ship, perhaps to rescue it.

If Shelburne and Shag Harbour were connected, it would wrap the whole story up in a pretty red bow.

It wasn’t until nearly three decades into his research that Styles discovered the true year the NATO minesweeping mission occurred: 1960.

Chronologically, this sets Shelburne seven years before Shag Harbour—even for an alien tale, it was impossible. The objects witnessed at the two locations couldn’t be the same.

Even though the two events proved to be unrelated—and despite the Shelburne witnesses being hesitant to share real details—Styles says in the podcast that he believed the veracity of the men’s accounts.

He claims that many of the Navy veterans teared up in interviews, often asking to change the subject when their emotions became too intense.

The researcher emphasized the historical context of the time, stating that Betty and Barney Hill had yet to make their famous alien abduction claims, and that space travel was still merely a science fiction dream.

Despite Styles’ extensive research, the sighting at Shelburne remains overshadowed by the Shag Harbour incident.

Now, the small town of Shag Harbour is a tourist destination for alien enthusiasts. More than 50 years later, both cases remain unsolved aside from Styles’ explanation.

But some experts say the possibility of unidentified submerged objects (USOs) having alien origins isn’t totally improbable—could this mean the UFOs at Shag Harbour and Shelburne really did get away?

Is Another Baba Vanga Prophecy Coming True? NASA’s Strange Comet Discovery Aligns With Alien Contact Prediction

Updated Sep 26, 2025, 15:44 IST

Also called the 'Nostradamus of Balkans', Baba Vanga is known for her bang-on predictions over the years. For the unversed, the Bulgarian mystic passed way in 1996.

However, her prophecies make headlines every now and then. From Princess Diana's death to the COVID-19 pandemic, she predicted all of it. And now, her predictions for 2026 are going viral and they are wilder than ever.

Out of everything she has predicted for 2026, one prophecy is making headlines after NASA issued a press release about an unusual comet making its way through our solar system.

Baba Vanga had predicted that there could be first contact with extraterrestrial life in November 2026 as a massive spacecraft will enter Earth’s atmosphere.

Earlier researchers like Harvard’s Avi Loeb suggested the possibility of artificial objects approaching Earth.

Meanwhile, NASA's release on July 1 stated, "On July 1, the NASA-funded ATLAS (Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System) survey telescope in Rio Hurtado, Chile, first reported observations of a comet that originated from interstellar space.

Arriving from the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, the interstellar comet has been officially named 3I/ATLAS. It is currently located about 420 million miles (670 million kilometers) away."

The statement aligns with Baba Vanga's prediction of human contact with aliens. How true is that? Only time can tell.

Some other things that Baba Vanga predicted for 2026 are:

Natural Disasters

One of Baba Vanga's most alarming predictions for 2026 is about extreme natural events.

According to reports, she foresaw many massive earthquakes, violent volcanic eruptions and extreme weather conditions.

The mystic claimed that these disasters could further threaten lives and destroy infrastructure.

Global War

This is one of the most scary forecasts. Vanga has predicted the possibility of a Third World War. As per reports, she foresaw some major clashes between powers.

AI Domination

Lastly, as per Vanga, 2026 could be a turning point for artificial intelligence.

Machines will start dominating massive key sectors, raising concerns about mass unemployment, ethical dilemmas and loss of human agency.

Denmark Reports Over 500 Mysterious Drone Sightings in European Airspace Crisis

September 26, 2025

Denmark experienced an unprecedented wave of over 500 unidentified drone sightings in just 24 hours, marking what officials are calling the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date.

According to Danish authorities, these incidents forced the closure of multiple airports across Scandinavia and affected military installations, prompting emergency meetings at the highest levels of European defense.

The Danish Defense Minister held an emergency press conference where he admitted these incidents were the work of what he described as a “professional actor conducting systematic operations.”

However, when pressed for details about this professional actor, he provided none, offering only an acknowledgment that they are dealing with capabilities beyond their understanding.

As noted in the Sky News reporting, Danish officials have raised the country’s alert level and are beginning to look at acquiring new capabilities to detect and neutralize drones, with the justice minister stating that “the threat of hybrid attacks is here to stay.”

The crisis began on September 23rd when Copenhagen Airport, one of Scandinavia’s busiest transportation hubs, shut down for nearly four hours after two to three large unidentified objects were spotted.

Authorities state that these were large objects with flight patterns that did not match standard drone profiles.

Oslo Airport was simultaneously disrupted for three hours due to separate sightings, creating coordinated disruption across two major international airports in different countries.

What makes these incidents particularly puzzling, Per official responses, is the decision not to engage these objects.

The Danish Defense Chief explained that “when you shoot something down in the air, something comes down again,” but experienced military officials typically know how to safely engage aerial targets.

As mentioned by journalist Ross Coulthart, attempts to bring down similar objects using counter-UAS technology have failed, with high-pulse microwave systems designed specifically to disable drones proving ineffective against these objects.

The European response reveals the seriousness of these incidents.

According to reports, defense ministers from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Finland, Romania, Denmark, and Bulgaria met on September 26th to discuss the “Drone Wall Initiative,” representing a 6 billion euro investment in detection and defense technologies specifically designed to counter aerial threats that conventional systems cannot handle effectively.

Russian ships were spotted off the Danish coast with transponders turned off, but Russia denies all involvement, calling the incidents “staged provocations.”

The Danish Prime Minister called Monday’s airport disruptions the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date, yet authorities remain unable to definitively identify who was behind the coordinated operations.

These objects demonstrate flight patterns, coordination capabilities, and apparent immunity to conventional countermeasures that officials describe as “professional and systematic,” but cannot attribute to any known actor.

The incidents have left European military and intelligence professionals publicly admitting they cannot identify, predict, or effectively counter objects operating with apparent impunity in NATO airspace, raising fundamental questions about the nature of what European authorities are encountering in their skies.

Coulthart dismissed conventional explanations, stating his view that “we’re being fed nonsense” and that there is “absolutely no evidence at all to suggest that this is Russia, China, or any other country in the world.”

He referenced President Trump’s acknowledgment that authorities “don’t know where it came from” and questioned why any foreign adversary would deploy highly sensitive, advanced technology over civilian airspace in Denmark.

According to Coulthart, these objects demonstrate capabilities that exceed known drone technology, including stealth characteristics and immunity to conventional countermeasures.
