The Russian Foreign Minister has held dozens of meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA including one with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday delivered an address to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, as well as held a major press conference after it. The top diplomat spoke about the Ukrainian conflict, the enduring hostilities in Gaza, the ongoing drone scare in the EU, and a broad range of other issues.

Lavrov has held more than 35 meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA over the past three days, including one with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. During the talks, both agreed to maintain contact on a wide range of issues.

They also reaffirmed the importance of the “momentum” generated by the Alaska summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump in “normalizing bilateral relations,” the Foreign Ministry in Moscow relayed.

The Russian delegation’s visit comes on the heels of a sharp change in Trump’s rhetoric on the Ukraine conflict following his meeting with Vladimir Zelensky earlier this week. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, the US president said he believes Kiev is “in a position to fight and win all of Ukraine back,” with enough support from the EU and NATO.

For months before that, Trump and his administration had argued that Ukraine would need to relinquish some of its territorial claims in order to secure a US-brokered peace deal.

Unlike his predecessor, Joe Biden, Trump has resisted sending large amounts of direct US military aid to Kiev and has instead urged European NATO members to buy American weapons for Ukraine's forces.

Throughout the conflict, Moscow has stressed that it is open to a peaceful settlement, as long as it includes a Ukrainian commitment to neutrality, demilitarization, denazification, and acceptance of the new territorial realities.

The brothers went from running their mom's grocery store in Schonnebeck to suddenly owning 13 stores in the Ruhr Valley by 1950 and 300 stores countrywide by 1960.

A former London bus driver has been arrested for running a sickening sex-ring where vulnerable girls were forced to carry out disgusting fetishes for rich men in Dubai's most glamorous neighbourhoods.

Charles 'Abbey' Mwesigwa was filmed by an undercover reporter claiming women under his control would do 'pretty much everything' clients asked.

He has now been detained in the United Arab Emirates but it is not clear what charges he is facing as the country's authorities have not made a public announcement about the case.

However, a Dubai law firm told the BBC they had received confirmation that Mwesigwa was in custody at the Central Prison Centre in Al Awir, Dubai.

The law firm said a red notice - a request to police worldwide to detain someone awaiting extradition - had been issued against the former bus driver by Interpol Uganda.

The recent investigation by BBC Eye and the World of Secrets podcast interviewed women who said they were lured to the UAE seeking stable employment, only to be forced in to coercive sex work.

Troy, a man who worked for Mwesigwa, said women were told upon arrival they owed money for flights, visas and living costs, and that the only way to repay the debt was through prostitution.

He said that women were forced into sexual acts he had 'never seen in his life', catering to 'rich men [who] look for girls that can fulfil their fantasies'.

'They see musicians, they see footballers, they see presidents,' Troy alleged.

'It doesn't matter what those girls go through as long as Abbey’s rich clients are happy. These girls, they have no escape route,' he added.

Mia (not her real name), who says she was trapped by the network, said at least one of the clients regularly asks to defecate on the women.

She said that clients were mostly white Europeans. Many clients expect extreme sexual acts from the women because of their race, she said.

The investigation sought to unveil the real stories behind the viral hashtag #DubaiPortaPotty, an internet story of influencers moving to Dubai to be willingly defecated on by wealthy clients for money.

The BBC World Service investigation explores how challenges like youth unemployment have led vulnerable Ugandans to seek work abroad, mainly in the Gulf states.

While many move through safe channels, anti-trafficking activists say many others are forced into prostitution after becoming ensnared by the promise of regular work.

Troy told investigators that Abbey had a network of young men in Uganda who targeted vulnerable women with the offer of legal employment.

Some believed they were travelling to the UAE to work in places like supermarkets or hotels.

It's also being reported as one big "rally the troops" meeting.

Apparently this somewhat unprecedented gathering is due to his "mounting impatience that the Pentagon hasn’t readily adopted the Trump administration’s directives on military culture, according to officials briefed on the plan."

The speech will aim to get everyone on the same page in terms of Trump's desire to tighten up discipline and professional standards across military ranks. So far, President Trump has only said when asked about the somewhat unprecedented meeting by reporters, "It’s great when generals and top people want to come to the United States to be with a now-called secretary of war."

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals to travel from around the world to hear him make a short speech on military standards and the "warrior ethos," multiple people familiar with the event told The Washington Post.

Commenting on the swift pushback, it continues:

Some Pentagon officials questioned the wisdom of launching a relatively large gathering on short notice to hear Hegseth speak for a matter of minutes, and bristled at the idea that long-serving military leaders — a segment of whom spent years in combat earlier in their careers — needed instruction on how to fight.

"They don’t need a talk from Secretary Hegseth on the warrior ethos," a defense official said.
