Mass Shooting at Eagle Pass Casino Leaves 2 Dead, Several Injured — Suspect in Custody

A San Antonio man was arrested in Wilson County following a shooting at an Eagle Pass casino that left two people dead and several others injured, the sheriff’s office said.

Keryan Rashad Jones, 34, was arrested on two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office told KSAT 12.

The Eagle Pass Police Department said Jones was captured in Wilson County hours after the shooting, in coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, according to a Facebook post.

The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office said Jones was located following a pursuit that began after an attempted traffic stop by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers near a Circle K in Stockdale.

A black Nissan Frontier truck was believed to be involved in the shooting, Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú told KSAT in a phone interview.

DPS troopers discharged their firearms to stop Jones’ vehicle, which the sheriff’s office said was partially disabled but continued fleeing.

Wilson County deputies joined the pursuit on State Highway 123 and Farm-to-Market 1347.

Jones was taken into custody in the 1000 block of FM 1347 after a “successful PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver and Taser deployment,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to a media release from Eagle Pass police, the capture was confirmed through vehicle tracking via license plate recognition (LPR) systems, which allowed the Texas Department of Public Safety to find the suspect.

Jones is currently in Stockdale, about 40 miles southeast of San Antonio and 180 miles from the casino.

Eagle Pass police said the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas Police Department is making arrangements to extradite Jones back to Eagle Pass in Maverick County.

A weapon was recovered, and no DPS troopers were injured, Eagle Pass police said.

Oklahoma Overrun With Chinese-Operated Marijuana Farms

Chinese gangs are taking advantage of loose marijuana rules in Oklahoma to grow and transport marijuana to other states for sale on the black market, authorities say.

Oklahoma narcotics officials told Congress $153 billion worth of marijuana is unaccounted for and likely leaving the state for the black market in other states.

As many as 85 percent of licensed grow sites have connections with Chinese owners or operators, according to Mark Woodward, information officer with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

Since 2022, the state has shut down more than 6,000 illegal growing operations. Most U.S. states have made marijuana legally available, but taxes and regulations have pushed up its price, leaving an opening for black market sales.

Donnie Anderson, director of the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, said at a press conference in March 2025 that his department was conducting raids on illegal marijuana operations every day.

Here’s what we know about the ongoing crisis.

Black Market Operations Flourish

Oklahoma approved medical marijuana in 2018, licensing its cultivation and sale within the state. The state then reported an explosive growth of growers as the law established no cap on the number of farms that could be licensed to grow marijuana and no limit on how many marijuana plants each farm could cultivate.

The majority of these sites are run by Chinese nationals, according to the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.

By the end of 2022, Oklahoma had 8,400 farms licensed for growing marijuana. The state stopped issuing new licenses in 2022. As of mid-2025, there are under 2,000 licensed farms, which is still more than enough to meet the needs of the 325,000 patients licensed to use marijuana for medical purposes.

IDF soldier shot by friendly fire during West Bank terror attack dies of injuries

Kav, a resident of Lotem, served in the Paratroopers Brigade’s 890th Battalion. The attacker was identified as Mahmoud Akkad, 24, from Nablus. Security forces sealed the city and nearby villages after the attack, and Palestinian reports said the IDF raided the village of Jit east of Qalqilya and confiscated CCTV footage. The army told the attacker’s family that his home is expected to be sealed ahead of demolition.

According to a military probe, Kav and another soldier were traveling in a military jeep on Route 60 near Kedumim when they suspected that a Palestinian truck driver behind them was trying to hit them and stopped at the Jit junction. The Palestinian driver then accelerated toward them and struck one of the soldiers. The other soldier exited the vehicle and opened fire; the attacker was neutralized but Kav was critically wounded.

A bus driver passing the scene also opened fire at the attacker, the IDF said, after the attacker had already been neutralized. The wounded soldier was evacuated in critical condition to Beilinson; his death was announced later Sunday. The incident is still under investigation by the IDF.

Following the attack, security forces blocked entrances to and exits from Nablus and surrounding villages and carried out checkpoints. Palestinians reported that the IDF closed the entrance to the West Bank village of Nabi Elias.

Spain’s Defense Ministry announced last week it had canceled a planned purchase from Rafael of dozens of Litening 5 targeting pods, which guide aerial bombs from a distance of up to 100 kilometers. The deal was valued at more than $218 million. Earlier, Spain scrapped an order for Rafael-made Spike anti-tank missiles worth about $272 million.

Another $763 million deal with Elbit Systems and two Spanish firms for Puls rocket systems was also canceled. Elbit’s share of the deal amounted to roughly $152 million. Earlier this year, Spain canceled a smaller munitions order worth several million dollars with an Elbit subsidiary.

The cancellations mark one front in a broader campaign by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who has taken an unusually sharp tone toward Israel during the Gaza war. In recent weeks Spain imposed an arms embargo, barring Israeli-linked supply vessels from docking in its ports and halting exports of raw materials, forcing Israeli firms to seek alternatives.

Over the weekend, Spain and Italy deployed naval ships to escort the “Sumud” flotilla, which departed Barcelona in late August with the stated aim of breaking Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza. Ironically, the Spanish warship sent to accompany the flotilla carries Rafael-made weapons and defense systems. The governments announced the move after flotilla organizers said their vessels had been attacked by drones, causing damage to several ships.

Israeli defense officials have not commented publicly on Spain’s actions. But one senior industry executive told the Israeli financial daily Calcalist: “After the war they’ll come crawling back. They need our weapons more than we need them. They’re a small market. Still, this requires us to stay alert regarding other markets.”

Executives note that amid a global arms race, canceled systems like Spike missiles can be quickly diverted to other buyers. But they warn that the real threat lies in the continued freeze on new contracts. Deals worth billions of dollars have been stalled for months. Following this diplomatic break, Venezuela officially recognized Palestine on April 27, 2009, becoming the first country in the Americas to establish formal diplomatic relations with the Palestinian Authority.
