Ok guys hear me out. It took a lot of time to write all of this stuff but this is my idea for how to defeat plastic waste.
First, Demonic Fungus will be a real thing and it will become the greatest apex plasticvore the world has ever seen. It will function as an invasive species and it will spread exponentially.
I'm thinking of making it target PVC's first since there are already insects and bacteria that can eat softer plastics. This can probably achieved by simply using Pestalotiopsis, genetically enhancing it to be hyper-agreessive and resilient (possibly through artificial selection). Then simply drenching it in 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene (DIPN) to accelerate its enzymes catalytic activity (possibly 100x). If I add some xylose and glucose it should spread unnaturally fast. You cannot create a more demonic biosymbiotic hybrid fungal system than this, it could probably eat anything with thick a enough biofilm, maybe even plasticfiber or oil itself. I would like it to secrete arsenic as well so that nobody would dare to ever touch or eat this thing, but that can come later. Perhaps rivers full of toxic fungal secrements would not be a good idea for now.
Just think about it: Hyper-aggressive fungi adapted to live drenched in DIPN would make it survive in the most alkaline, acidic and highest temperatures even with heavy metals present. Who's with me? Anyone wanna make this amazing organism? Imagine a world completely drenched and submerged in this fungi it would be glorious. I am thinking it could spread through spores that travel through the air. It will be so good and featured on Nature and we will save the world! Anyone with me? Anyone wanna make demon spores?
