Is The Fix Already In To Protect James Comey?

On Thursday, following the grand jury indictment, Comey’s case was “randomly” assigned to U.S. District Judge Michael Nachmanoff. In 2021, Joe Biden nominated Nachmanoff, and the Senate confirmed him to the federal bench with a razor-thin 52-46 vote, as three Senate Republicans — Lindsey Graham, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski — crossed over to support his confirmation.

If you believe that selecting Nachmanoff to preside over this case was truly random, then you haven’t been paying attention. Washington’s so-called “random assignments” seem to have a funny way of putting the most Trump-hostile judges on politically charged cases. Take Judge James Boasberg, a Barack Obama appointee, who just happened to land multiple Trump-related cases. Every single time, Boasberg ruled in ways that stretched or outright ignored constitutional boundaries to work against Trump. Yet, somehow, we’re supposed to believe these assignments are pure chance. Sure.

Judge Nachmanoff’s résumé doesn’t exactly inspire confidence either. Before becoming a magistrate judge for six years, he spent over a decade working as a federal public defender. That’s a career steeped in finding loopholes, bending rules, and negotiating ways to avoid accountability for defendants. He also defended al Qaeda member Zacarias Moussaoui.

And now he’s tasked with presiding over perhaps the most politically sensitive case since the Trump-Russia debacle that Comey himself helped orchestrate. It has all the makings of yet another judicial performance meant not to obtain justice, but to wash Comey clean.

Comey himself is projecting confidence, even smugness. After his indictment, he declared, “I’m not afraid,” clearly confident of his inevitable vindication. Of course he’s not afraid—why would he be? He knows exactly how the swamp game works: the very corrupt institutions that targeted Trump are now circling the wagons to protect him. Washington knows that convicting Comey would mean vindicating Trump’s long-standing claims of a deep-state sabotage. They’ll never allow that because it would expose years of abuse and corruption.

Secret Service SUV Parked Outside White House Catches Fire

ASecret Service vehicle caught fire outside the White House on Monday, resulting in street closures ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit.

The SUV caught fire in its back seat and there did not appear to be any immediate casualties. Just the News White House Correspondent Amanda Head confirmed the events as an eyewitness.

The vehicle was situated at the corner of 18th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Shutdown Odds Spike After House GOP Refuse To Bring Chamber Into Session: Report

Update (11450ET): It seems like everyone wants a shutdown this time. As Democrat leaders are being pressured by a coalition of federal unions to 'hold the line' and fight back against budget cuts to 'critical public services' even if it leads to a shutdown and mass layoffs, Republicans appear to have called their bluff ahead of a Sept. 1 deadline.

The White House, meanwhile, tells Politico that President Trump will push congressional Democrats to back a House-passed stopgap bill during an Oval Office sitdown Monday, less than 48 hours before the shutdown.

"Let me be very clear about the president and the White House’s position: All we are asking for is a common-sense, clean funding resolution, a continuing resolution to keep the government open," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a Monday interview on Fox News. "The president is giving Democrat leadership one last chance to be reasonable, to come to the White House today to try to talk about this," she added.

Former MI5 Chief Warns War with Russia Already Here as UK Assailed by Cyber-Attacks, Sabotage

War with Russia is already on Britain’s doorstep as evidenced by cyber-attacks, sabotage, arson, and other hostile activity orchestrated by President Vladimir Putin, a former head of MI5 declared.

Eliza Manningham-Buller, who led the domestic spy agency two decades ago, says she agrees with analysts who caution Moscow was at war with the west as its Communist allies show similar intent in inviting World War III.

The Guardian reports Lady Manningham-Buller argued the situation had changed “since the invasion of Ukraine and the various things I read about that the Russians have been doing here – sabotage, intelligence collection, attacking people and so on”.

Speaking on a podcast in which she was interviewed by the lord speaker, John McFall, she then referenced Russia expert Fiona Hill, who advised President Donald Trump during his first term as U.S. president and co-authored the UK’s strategic defence review. She explained:

I think she may be right in saying we’re already at war with Russia. It’s a different sort of war, but the hostility, the cyber-attacks, the physical attacks, the intelligence work is extensive.

The Guardian notes Pat McFadden, erstwhile Cabinet Office minister, said last year Russia had stepped up its cyber-attacks against the UK.

Hackers have targeted a string of British businesses. While the source of the attacks can take time to detect, many are suspected to have originated in Russia.

All that has been played out alongside Russian aggression in Ukraine.

Switzerland to Introduce Digital ID Cards After Razor-Thin Referendum

Digital identity cards are set to be introduced in Switzerland after voters narrowly approved a referendum on Sunday.

Despite the majority of the cantons voting against the e-ID legislation, a razor-thin majority of 50.39 per cent of the Swiss public voted in favour of introducing digital identification, Blich reported.

Voters had previously rejected a similar effort in 2021; however, after Swiss lawmakers backed the creation of a digital ID, signatures were quickly gathered to put the measure back before the people in a referendum on Sunday.

It remains to be seen if this will be the final word on the matter, with opponents calling for another vote given the incredibly narrow result.

Critics of the Federal Act on Electronic Identity have warned that the technology used is insufficient to protect citizen data from cyberattacks and hacks.

Opponents have also warned that digital IDs could be the beginning of an all-encompassing surveillance state, which could be used to punish government critics or dissidents.

Proponents have noted that it will be an optional system, and that government authorities or private firms which use the system will be prohibited from obtaining more information than is needed from the digital ID card.

The system has been pitched as being a means for Swiss citizens to “identify themselves digitally in a secure, fast and uncomplicated way”.

Foreign Minister Lavrov tells UN that Russia has no intention of attacking Europe

As new tensions rise between Russia and NATO powers, Moscow’s top diplomat insisted to world leaders Saturday that his nation doesn’t intend to attack Europe but will mount a “decisive response” to any aggression. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke at the United Nations General Assembly after weeks in which unauthorized flights into NATO’s airspace — intrusions the alliance blames on Russia — have raised alarm around Europe.
