Chuck Schumer denies he's caving to left-wing pressure to force a shutdown

Democrats and Republicans in Congress are at odds over a proposal to keep the government funded through Nov. 21 that needs to be passed by Tuesday in order to prevent a shutdown. Democrats in the Senate are refusing to provide the necessary votes for passage unless they secure key concessions, namely Affordable Care Act subsidies for low-and- middle-income Americans and reversing Republican Medicaid cuts passed in President Donald Trumpโ€™s "One Big Beautiful Bill."

Meta agrees to pay $25 million to settle lawsuit from Trump after Jan. 6 suspension

WASHINGTON (AP) Meta has agreed to pay $25 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump against the company after it suspended his accounts following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, according to three people familiar with the matter.

Itโ€™s the latest instance of a large corporation settling litigation with the president, who has threatened retribution on his critics and rivals, and comes as Meta and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, have joined other large technology companies in trying to ingratiate themselves with the new Trump administration.

The people familiar with the matter spoke on the condition of anonymity Wednesday to discuss the agreement. Two of the people said terms of the agreement include $22 million going to the nonprofit that will become Trumpโ€™s future presidential library. The balance will go to legal fees and other litigants, they said.

The Wall Street Journal was first to report on the settlement.

BREAKING: YouTube Agrees to Pay President Trump $24.5 Million Settlement Over 2021 Suspension of His Account

YouTube agreed to pay President Trump a $24.5 million settlement in his lawsuit against the tech giant for banning his account in January 2021.

President Trump previously filed a lawsuit against YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook after the tech giants banned his accounts following the January 6 Capitol riot.

โ€œWeโ€™re demanding an end to the shadow-banning, a stop to the silencing and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing and canceling that you know so well,โ€ Mr. Trump said in July 2021. โ€œI am confident that we will achieve a historic victory for American freedom and at the same time freedom of speech.โ€
