Boeing in early stages of developing 737 MAX replacement, WSJ reports

September 29, 2025 at 9:15 PM EDT

(Reuters) -Boeing is in the early stages of developing a new single-aisle airplane that would eventually replace the 737 MAX, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Reuters could not immediately confirm the report. Rolls-Royce declined to comment, while Boeing did not respond to a Reuters' request for comment.

The 737 MAX entered service in 2017 but was grounded globally in 2019 after two fatal crashes killed 346 people. The incidents slashed Boeing's profits and triggered lawsuits, investigations, and a criminal probe by the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Federal Aviation Administration lifted the grounding order in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last Friday, the FAA said it would allow the planemaker to issue airworthiness certificates for some 737 MAX jets, starting this week. This authority had been revoked in 2019 following the second fatal crash involving the model in Ethiopia.

Earlier this year, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg met with officials from Rolls-Royce Holdings in the UK to discuss a new engine for the aircraft, according to the WSJ report.

The U.S. planemaker has also been designing the flight deck of a new narrow-body aircraft, the report said, adding that development remains in the early planning phase, with final decisions yet to be made.

The planemaker told WSJ that its recovery plan remains on track, with priorities including the delivery of roughly 6,000 back-logged commercial airplanes and the certification of previously announced models.

Still, Boeing continues to face regulatory scrutiny.

In early 2024, the FAA imposed a production cap of 38 per month for 737 MAX planes after a mid-air cabin panel blowout on a new Alaska Airlines jet, which was later found to be missing four bolts.

The Alaska Airlines incident prompted the U.S. Justice Department, under then-President Joe Biden, to open a criminal investigation and declare that Boeing was not in compliance with a 2021 deferred prosecution agreementmade after the company had misled the FAA during the 737 MAX regulatory certification process.

MAGA Rages as ‘Trump Hater’ Bad Bunny Picked for 2026 Super Bowl Half-Time Show

David Gilmour

Sep 29th, 2025, 6:41 am

The NFL’s pick of Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny to headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show ignited fury among MAGA commentators who fumed that the artist, a vocal critic of the administration’s deportation drive, is a “Trump hater.”

The three-time Grammy winner, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, will headline the show on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, it was announced Sunday.

“This is for my people, my culture, and our history,” he said in a statement posted in reaction to the news.

High-profile MAGA influencers and commentators, however, protested the pick:

The 31-year-old has previously vowed to avoid U.S. tours while Trump was in office and mocked the president in his music, including a recent single that featured a Trump-like voice apologizing “to immigrants in America.”

Mystery fleet of US Air Force tankers crossing Atlantic stirs echoes of Iran strike ahead of secret military meeting

13:25 EDT 29 Sep 2025, updated 00:25 EDT 30 Sep 2025 By ELINA SHIRAZI, US SENIOR POLITICAL REPORTER

Flight trackers have spotted a fleet of US air tankers crossing the Atlantic just as Donald Trump prepares to meet with generals and admirals on Tuesday.

Around a dozen KC-135R/T Stratotankers were making the journey on Sunday night, with several en route to RAF Mildenhall - a major Air Force base in England, open-source intelligence (OSINT) accounts reported on X.

The presence of air tankers can indicate that the US or Nato is addressing an urgent military requirement for fighter jet refueling capacity.

The deployment carries ominous weight, according to three Defense Department sources- two former, one current - who spoke to the Daily Mail on condition of anonymity.

The last time the US moved tankers in comparable numbers was five days before American warplanes struck Iran's nuclear facilities. Trump is meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday.

The movement of the Stratotankers comes as Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are preparing to hold a shadowy meeting of the nation's top military leaders at Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday.

The unprecedented meeting, first reported by the Washington Post last week, has raised alarm. Hundreds of generals and admirals, including those in active conflict zones, have been summoned from around the world - with no details of what will be discussed at the summit.

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate will face no criminal charges over allegations made by multiple women who are suing him in a High Court civil case.

The four women have accused the former professional kickboxer of sexual violence, including grabbing one by the throat on several occasions in 2015, assaulting her with a belt and pointing a gun at her face.

Mr Tate’s barristers told an earlier court hearing that there was “total denial of wrongdoing”.

On Monday, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said the legal test to bring criminal charges had not been met.

A spokesman said: “We undertook a further review of a case file in relation to allegations of assault and rape between 2013 and 2015.

“Following careful consideration of the evidence provided by Hertfordshire Constabulary,we concluded that our legal test for prosecution was not met, and that no further action should be taken.

“We have informed all parties of our decision and offered to meet with the complainants to explain our reasoning in more detail.”

The women have accused Andrew Tate of sexual violence, including grabbing one by the throat on several occasions in 2015, assaulting her with a belt and pointing a gun at her face

Mr Tate’s UK solicitor, Andrew Ford, welcomed the decision.

He said: “Despite much external pressure the evidence speaks for itself in this case and the Crown Prosecution Service have rightly confirmed the evidence is inadequate to provide any realistic prospect of conviction.

“The reason the CPS made this decision will become obvious when the evidence is played out during the civil proceedings.

“We are glad that this is yet another example of a potential criminal case against Andrew Tate falling by the wayside.”

The women brought a civil case against Tate at the High Court after the Crown Prosecution Service originally decided not to prosecute in 2019.

Three of the British accusers were the subject of an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary, which was closed that year.

A statement from the women's lawyer, Matt Jury, of McCue Jury and Partners, said the CPS’s decision was “disappointing but unsurprising”.

He said: “Our clients will now pursue those questions through any appropriate appeals and other action, while their civil case proceeds in the High Court in June next year.

“Meanwhile, the Tates remain scheduled for extradition to the UK to face 21 counts, including rape and trafficking, involving three other women. Our clients stand with those women in their fight for justice.”

Over 100,000 Federal Employees Expected to Quit Tuesday Amid Government Shutdown — Largest Exodus in U.S. History as Trump Moves to Finally Drain the Swamp

By Jim Hᴏft Sep. 30, 2025 8:00

Over 100,000 federal employees are expected to resign imminently under the Trump administration’s sweeping“deferred resignation” program.

This mass exodus is essential to finally draining the swamp and reasserting presidential control over a bloated, unaccountable federal machine.

Late last week, theOffice of Personnel Management (OPM) reportedly circulated internal guidance to agencies, warning them to prepare for waves of deferred resignations and reductions in force should Congress fail to approve full appropriations, according to the New York Post.

Agencies were told to begin drafting Separation and Reduction in Force (RIF) plans targeting nonessential positions

On January 28, 2025, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) issued a memo to the entirefederal civil service titled “Fork in the Road,” offering employees a deferred resignation option.

The offer promised continued salary and benefits through September 30 if workers left voluntarily, but only if they signed away legal rights and accepted the exit by a looming deadline.

By mid-February, approximately 75,000 federal employees had signed the exit agreement.

Now, as the Trump White House prepares for a new wave, more than 100,000 additional workers are expected to depart as of Tuesday, making this breakaway the largest one-day drop in federal workforce history, according to The Guardian.

The news outlet reported:

Workers preparing to leave government as part of the resignation program – one of several pillars of Donald Trump’s sweeping cuts tothe federal workforce – have described how months of “fear and intimidation” left them feeling like they had no choice but to depart.

“Federal workers stay for the mission. When that mission is taken away, when they’re scapegoated, when their job security is uncertain, and when their tiny semblance of work-life balance is stripped away, they leave,” a longtime employee at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) told the Guardian. “That’s why I left.”

The total number of expected departures through the delayed resignation and voluntary separation programs, attrition, andearly retirement programs is about 275,000 employees, the spokesman said.

Several thousands of additional federal workers have been fired as part of reduction in force mandates ordered by the administration. The mass exodus is the largest single-year decline in civilian federal employment since the second world war.

Federal employees who took the deferred resignation offer requested to speak anonymously in hopes of returning to the federal government in the future and to protect future job prospects.

President Trump Makes an Announcement on Prescription Drug Costs

By Jordan Conradson Sep. 30

President Trump is scheduled to make an announcement this afternoon reportedly on prescription drug prices and a deal with Pfizer.

Per the Hill:

“President Trump is doing more to lower healthcare costs than anyone else in Washington, D.C. While Democrats are threatening to shut down the federal government to subsidize health care for illegal aliens, President Trump is leveraging the power of the federal government to drastically cut drug prices for everyday Americans,” White House spokesperson Kush Desai told The Hill in a statement ahead of the comments.

Desai added, “Democrats talked the talk for decades about drug prices, but only President Trump is actually walking the walk.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also teased TrumpRx in a post on Truth Social — a “direct-to-consumer website for Americans to buy drugs.”

The president’s remarks also come as the government faces a looming shutdown — and as Democrats stand their ground on wanting the GOP to address Affordable Care Act subsidies and Medicaid cuts — and after his speech alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to a large gathering of military leaders.

Trump also previewed his announcement moments before the Oval Office address, telling reporters that prescription drug prices are “coming way down.”

Super Bowl Boycott Backlash Grows After NFL Taps Anti-Trump Pop Star Bad Bunny for Halftime Show

The NFL is facing growing boycott calls after announcing its decision to tap anti-Trump pop megastar Bad Bunny as the headliner for next year’s Super Bowl halftime show.

Social media erupted this week when the Puerto Rican rapper, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, was announced as the main attraction for Super Bowl LX coming up next February.

Photos began circulating showing the singer dressed in a pink mini skirt and high heels and another in a voluminous white dress as football fans blasted the NFL for once again not understanding their own audience.

Now a boycott is warming on social media as fans express outrage over the NFL’s tone deaf entertainment pick.

Further enflaming Americans, the rapper recently said he would no longer perform concerts in the U.S. because he opposes Donald Trump’s immigration policies.

Bad Bunny has been a virulent critic of President Trump and backed Kamala Harris just months before she lost last year’s presidential election.
