Foreign Billionaire Pours Millions Into U.S. Politics to Push Radical Green Agenda

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/10/foreign-billionaire-pours-millions-u-s-politics-push/

For more than a decade, British billionaire hedge-fund manager Christopher Hohn has quietly funneled hundreds of millions of dollars into American politics.

Federal law strictly prohibits foreign nationals from directly or indirectly influencing U.S. elections, yet Hohn has become one of the most aggressive violators of that rule.

Through his London-based nonprofit, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Hohn poured more than $553 million into U.S. organizations between 2014 and 2023.

These dollars didn’t go toward charity; instead, they went toward advancing radical left-wing policy campaigns: climate protests, anti-fossil-fuel litigation, and efforts to ban natural gas stoves.

Much of this money flowed through the Arabella Advisors dark-money network, which bankrolls progressive activism nationwide.

CIFF’s ties raise even deeper concerns. The group has close connections to Communist China.

Its CEO sits on the International Green Development Coalition, a program tied to China’s Belt and Road initiative.

The coalition’s work is overseen by top officials in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Continue…

Church of England Allows ‘Marginalized Communities’ to Cover Historic Canterbury Cathedral in Grotesque Graffiti

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/10/church-england-allows-marginalized-communities-cover-historic-canterbury/

Woke liberals so often virtue-signal over the “marginalized” and “unheard” that one might easily overlook the most relevant question.

In short, what do those liberals actually think about the allegedly downtrodden souls whose interests liberals purport to defend?

According to the U.K.’s Independent, the Church of England provided an answer when, as part of a project designed to amplify the voices of “marginalised communities” and “the unheard,” it allowed the temporary, graffiti-style defacement of ancient Canterbury Cathedral, founded in 579 AD by St. Augustine.

“I think it’s sacrilegious,” one visitor said, while another compared it to “an underground car park in Peckham.”

In the interest of charity, let us begin by focusing on the positive.

For instance, the colorful graffiti poses what a spokesperson called “everyday theological questions.” These include “Are you there?” and “God, what happens when we die?”

In other words, presented properly, such questions could have echoed the raw anguish of The Psalms.

As it stands, however, the exhibition merely reflects woke liberals’ attitudes toward the “marginalized” and “unheard.”

“It is weird to me that these people don’t see the irony of honoring ‘marginalized communities’ by making a beautiful historical building really ugly,” Vice President J.D. Vance wrote on the social media platform X. Continue…

UPDATE: President Trump Announces Major Deal with Drugmaker AstraZeneca, Including $50 BILLION Investment

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/10/update-president-trump-announces-major-deal-drugmaker-astrazeneca/

President Trump on Friday announced another deal with UK-based pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to lower drug costs for Americans on Medicaid.

The drug manufacturer will now sell prescription drugs to patients at Most Favored Nations prices through TrumpRx.gov.

This comes after the President struck a deal with Pfizer to also provide Americans with heavily discounted prescription drugs at most-favored-nation prices.

Trump made the announcement on AstraZeneca in the Oval Office on Friday, where he touted his efforts to lower drug costs during his first term and announced Most Favored Nations pricing from "the largest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the United Kingdom."

"I had it going very well in my first term, but we were interrupted by rigged elections, so I was unable to carry it forward," the President noted.

Trump also highlighted AstraZeneca's plans to build a new plant in Charlottesville, Virginia, where they broke ground on Thursday, investing $50 billion in U.S. manufactuting, he said. "It's going to have 3,600 jobs just to begin with, and that's going to be a fantastic plant," Trump said.

Trump delivered remarks on the new deal and AstraZeneca's manufacturing plans in America for nearly seven minutes before taking questions from the press. AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, CMS Administrator, Mehmet Oz, FDA commissioner Marty McCary, and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin joined the President and delivered remarks.

The globalist poster-boy Emmanuel Macron is the ultimate political scape artist, but after seven failed French Prime Ministers, his choice of the eighth premier suggests that he may be losing his touch.

The reason is the former Rothschild banker has again chosen Sebastien Lecornu as PM, even though he has resigned last Monday after just 27 days, and mere 17 hours after presenting his cabinet.

Rutgers University Professor Who Wrote Antifa Handbook Flees Country After TPUSA Petition for Him to Be Fired

https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/10/rutgers-university-professor-who-wrote-antifa-handbook-flees/

Mark Bray, a Rutgers University history professor and self-proclaimed “Antifa expert,” has fled the United States to Spain after allegedly receiving “death threats” amid accusations that he is more involved with the far-left extremist movement than simply studying it.

The professor has been openly supportive of Antifa tactics, including writing the actual handbook.

Bray, dubbed “Dr. Antifa” by critics and students alike, denies any direct membership in Antifa, insisting in interviews, “I am not now, nor have I ever been, part of any kind of antifascist or anti-racist organization – I just haven’t. I’m a professor,” according to a report from The Guardian.

However, his 2017 book, Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, has fueled accusations of deeper involvement.

In the book, Bray pledged 50% of proceeds to the International Anti-Fascist Defense Fund, which he described as supporting “the legal or medical costs of people facing charges for organizing pertaining to anti-fascism or anti-racism.”

Conservatives argue this constitutes material support, potentially opening the door for federal investigations under Trump’s order designating Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization.

The controversy erupted when the Rutgers chapter of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) launched a petition calling for Bray’s dismissal.

The petition, hosted on Change.org, accuses Bray of being an “Antifa financier” and an “outspoken, well-known antifa member,” stating that his presence at Rutgers endangers students and promotes terrorist behavior.

The organization, whose founder, Charlie Kirk, was executed last month at a college speaking event, stated in the petition: Continue…

Watch: MSM Interview Covers Up Ukrainian Fighter's Swastika Tattoo

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/watch-msm-interview-covers-ukrainian-fighters-swastika-tattoo

In another embarrassing and revealing moment for Western mainstream media and its many puff pieces on Ukraine's neo-Nazi Azov Regiment, Canadian national broadcaster CBC has aired a news report this week from "an elite training facility" of its 3rd Assault Brigade in Kiev, featuring a fighter with a swastika tattoo on his arm.

The footage, released Thursday, blurred out the swastika tattoo of one of the main military trainers interviewed, but failed to do so in the video’s YouTube thumbnail. Comments were turned off, with a note attached in the YouTube description which reads: "A tattoo of an offensive symbol has been blurred in this video." Watch (officer with tattoo starts at :16 mark)

It was in June 2024 that the US State Department first announced that it had lifted its longtime ban on giving weapons and training to Ukraine's notorious Azov Brigade (often referenced by its earlier name Azov Battalion).

Since then, efforts to normalize Azov—which mainstream media had long ago grudgingly admitted was full of "neo-Nazi ideology"—have only grown.

The group's members have never been shy about sporting Nazi-inspired tattoos and patches. Ultimately, they haven't changed, only their Western supporters' perceptions of them have.

The blurred out tattoo in question from the CBC footage:

Ukrainian scholar and historian, Dr. Marta Havryshko has on many occasions slammed Western media attempts to whitewash the extremist militia group. For example she once wrote:

“Azov changed” – the mantra of many liberal and progressive public in the West, who, after 24 Feb. 2022, demonstrate sympathy toward the Azov movement, whitewashing its past, justifying its present, and showing no concerns about its future.

Just this month, Ukraine's President Zelensky promoted Azov's founder, Andriy Biletsky, to the rank of Brigadier General, amid these efforts to downplay or cover up the group's clear neo-Nazi ideology.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday heaped praise on President Donald Trump's efforts to broker a ceasefire in the Middle East and at the same time trashed the Nobel Committee.

Putin said to reporters while in Tajikistan that Trump "is definitely making an effort and working on these issues - on achieving peace and resolving complex international affairs. The clearest example of that is the situation in the Middle East."

"Whether the current US president deserves the Nobel Prize or not, I don’t know. But he is truly doing a lot to resolve complex crises that have dragged on for years, even decades," the Russian leader added.

He then slammed the Nobel Committee for awarding its prestigious peace prize to "people who did nothing for peace" - in reference to the announcement just hours before that of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado being this year's winner.

"In my view, those decisions have done enormous damage to the prize’s reputation," Putin told reporters. Continue…

Trump Suggests Dropping Spain From NATO Alliance Over Defense Spending

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/trump-suggests-dropping-spain-nato-alliance-over-defense-spending

President Donald Trump suggested on Oct. 9 that Spain could be thrown out of NATO after Madrid declined to commit to boosting defense spending to 5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).

Trump made the remarks during an Oval Office meeting with the leader of the defense alliance’s second-newest member, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, where the world leaders discussed NATO’s almost-universal pledge to increase defense expenditure.

The U.S. president said to his Finnish counterpart: “Well, we had to do it, and you were great about it. Spain has not been. Spain is the one that didn’t do it. And so, I think you people are going to have to start speaking to Spain. The only one that didn’t do it, the only NATO country that didn’t do it is Spain, and you'll figure what that’s all about, right?”

Trump said later during the exchange: “We had one laggard. It was Spain, Spain. You have to call them and find out why are they a laggard, and they’re doing well, too.

“They have no excuse not to do this, but that’s all right. Maybe you should throw them out of NATO, frankly.”

Responding, Spain reaffirmed its commitment to the alliance, with the country’s defense minister, Margarita Robles, saying that Spain delivers on its pledges.

“These statements were made in a specific context, but I know for a fact that the U.S. Armed Forces are well aware of Spain’s commitment,” Robles said.

The defense minister in July had spoken of Spain’s reliability in the alliance during a visit to NATO headquarters in Naples, Italy, where she said that “NATO can count on Spain.”

According to a Spanish government statement from July 18, Robles said that “there are no debates or speeches that can overshadow Spain’s commitment and reliability in terms of NATO, because our commitment is robust.” Continue…

"We Will Not Agree!" - Polish President Rejects EU Migrant Relocation Plan

https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/we-will-not-agree-polish-president-rejects-eu-migrant-relocation-plan

Polish President Karol Nawrocki has told European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that Poland will not accept any attempt by EU institutions to impose migrant relocations within its borders.

“I would like to kindly inform you that Poland will not agree to any actions by European institutions that would be aimed at relocating illegal migrants in Poland, and I hope that you will take this fact into account in your actions,” the president wrote, honoring his electoral pledge to firmly reject the bloc’s Migration and Asylum Pact.

Nawrocki reminded von der Leyen that Poland’s eastern frontier has for years faced “constant migratory pressure, controlled by the Moscow regime with the help of the Belarusian state and intelligence services.” He noted that Warsaw has devoted “significant resources” to protecting the EU’s border and to supporting Ukrainian refugees displaced by Russia’s war.

“In 2025, there are still nearly a million Ukrainian refugees in Poland,” Nawrocki wrote. “After Feb. 24, 2022, the Polish state acted responsibly and accepted Ukrainian citizens fleeing the war. We offered not only our own homes but also the state’s support that was needed at that time. Poland acted in solidarity, even though it was not bound by the obligation to show solidarity.”

Nawrocki said the bloc’s focus should not be on redistributing migrants within Europe but on stopping illegal crossings in the first place.

“I agree that illegal migration is a problem that Europe must address, but the solution is not to forcibly return migrants to Central and Eastern European countries,” he wrote. “Our common task should be, above all, to seal borders and combat smugglers.”

The Polish leader also noted that opposition to migrant relocation is shared across the political spectrum in Poland, including, at least in principle, Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s left-wing coalition government. Continue…

Specifically he was informed by authorities that he was a potential target of a suspected plot in Belgium to kill conservative politicians using a drone carrying explosives. Three men were arrested in Antwerp in the foiled attack believed to primarily be aimed at Belgium's Prime Minister Bert De Wever.

Pfizer Left COVID-19 Vaccine Data Out Of Submissions To FDA, Documents Show

https://www.zerohedge.com/medical/pfizer-left-covid-19-vaccine-data-out-submissions-fda-documents-show

Data on how parts of a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine spread in the bodies of mice were withheld from regulatory submissions to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, according to a new comparison of those submissions and similar documents sent to Japanese regulators.

Byram Bridle, who has a PhD in immunology and is an associate professor of immunology and virology at the University of Guelph in Canada, authored the comparison. It was dated Aug. 13 and released on Oct. 4 by Dr. Robert Malone, a vaccine adviser to the U.S. government.

“The findings of this report raise serious questions about the integrity of the health regulatory process during the declared COVID-19 pandemic,” Bridle said in his conclusions.

During a September meeting, under questioning by Malone, a Pfizer representative said that its studies of the spread of vaccine elements, known as biodistribution, were done in consultation with the FDA.

“Pfizer does not have a further comment other than we did our work in close consultation with the FDA on all our of biodistribution studies that were approved for our licensed product,” the representative said. Continue…

US Treasury Backs Bombshell: Canada’s $300B Money Laundering Hub Exposed - Sam Cooper

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2025-10-10/us-treasury-backs-bombshell-canadas-300b-money-laundering-hub-exposed-sam-cooper

Investigative journalist Sam Cooper, author of Willful Blindness, calls Canada the “Western hemisphere capital” for Chinese Communist Party networks laundering money for Mexican fentanyl cartels. In an interview with Daniela Cambone, Cooper cites a U.S. Treasury report linking Chinese underground banking to over $300 billion laundered in four years via what he dubs the “Vancouver model.”

Weak Canadian laws, he argues, have turned the country into a net fentanyl exporter and a major U.S. security threat. This deliberate regulatory laxity allows foreign-backed criminal networks to thrive, fueling cartels, corrupting financial systems, and putting North American communities at grave risk.

Regina Teachers' Convention speaker frames parental rights as 'ploy' to undermine public education

https://www.rebelnews.com/regina_teachers_convention_speaker_frames_parental_rights_as_ploy_to_undermine_public_education

A professor delivering a speech to Regina teachers told the crowd the “rhetoric of parental rights” is being “weaponized to erode children’s rights, weaken human rights, deprofessionalize teachers, and undermine public confidence in education.”

At the Regina Teachers’ Convention Friday, education professor Shannon D.M. Moore gave a talk titled “Parental Rights: A Ploy to Privatize Public Education.”

In the text of the online explainer accompanying her talk to Regina public school teachers, Moore claims that the “rhetoric of parental rights” is being “weaponized to erode children’s rights, weaken human rights, deprofessionalize teachers, and undermine public confidence in education.”

She argues the concept of parental rights “carries a veneer of legitimacy that masks its lack of legal foundation.”

Moore insists that public schools must “directly challenge the legitimacy” of parental demands and instead “unapologetically promote and protect human rights.” According to Moore, it’s “neither feasible nor desirable to tailor education to the private values of every parent.”

Moore advances the argument that parental involvement, particularly in matters like curriculum transparency or graphic book removal, threatens what she calls “shared, democratic values” in education.

In Regina Public Schools, apparently, the enemy of public education is the public.

Thousands of Catholics across Canada will gather on October 11 for 1,500 Rosary rallies organized by Canada Needs Our Lady to pray for spiritual renewal and national unity.

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/thousands-of-catholics-to-pray-rosary-across-canada-this-saturday/

Thousands of Catholics will gather across Canada this Saturday to publicly pray the Rosary.

On October 11, during the month of the Rosary, Canada Needs Our Lady (CNOL), a Catholic prayer group, is organizing 1,500 Rosary rallies across the country to honor Our Lady of Fatima and bring Canada back to God.

“The Rosary is more than a prayer — it is a lifeline, a source of hope and protection for our nation. Canada is facing uncertain and challenging times — socially, morally, and spiritually — and our people need the guidance, peace, and strength that come from turning to God and Our Lady,” CNOL administrator Joann Glive told LifeSiteNews.

“Through the Rosary, we reflect on the life of Christ and open our hearts to Our Blessed Mother’s love,” she continued. “Every Hail Mary is a prayer for our families, our communities, our leaders, and our country. It is a light in the darkness, a reminder that God’s mercy and grace are always near. By praying together, Canadians can find unity, courage, and the hope to face the trials of our time — and through Mary’s maternal care, we are led to her Son, who is the source of all strength and peace.”

The objective of Canada Needs Our Lady, a campaign run by the Canadian Society for the Defense of Christian Civilization, is to “obtain the return of Canada to God through the means proposed by Our Lady of Fatima,” and to “win hearts and minds for Our Lady.” Continue…

Canada’s safety minister says he has not met with any members of damaged or destroyed churches

https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/canadas-safety-minister-says-he-has-not-met-with-any-members-of-damaged-or-destroyed-churches/

Minister Gary Anandasangaree said his priorities are getting a new border bill passed and tackling illegal immigration.

Canada’s Public Safety Minister admitted that he has yet to meet with anyone from 123 Christian, mostly Catholic, churches that have been either reduced to ashes or seriously vandalized over the past four years.

Speaking recently before a committee to discuss upcoming fall bills, Minister Gary Anandasangaree was grilled by opposition Conservative MPs on a host of issues from public safety and illegal migrants to church arsons.

He said his priorities are getting a new border Bill C-12 passed while tackling illegal immigration but made no specific mention of tackling the rise of Christian hate in Canada.

Asked by Conservative MP Dane Lloyd about whether he met with any of the 123 and counting church congregations, he replied that he has not, but he claimed he has met with “many members of different church and faith groups.”

“You said you met with synagogues and mosques, which I do appreciate,” noted Lloyd, adding, “Those communities need your support, Minister, but Christian communities also need your support.”

“Why have you not met with any of those communities?” he asked.

Anandasangaree said he was “concerned (about) every incidence of hate at any place, including churches,” but stopped short of promising anything. Continue…

A McGill student with an Israeli flag was chased by police on horses, then threatened with arrest for obstruction if he refused to leave the campus. For his “safety.”

Shortly after this, a group of students holding Israeli flags were told they had to leave the McGill campus, or they would be arrested for obstruction. For their “safety.”

McGill security would not comment on whether or not McGill has an official policy to remove students with Israeli flags.

The SPVM would not comment, nor would they direct me to a police liaison to clarify why these students were being targeted.

Hundreds of anti-Israel protesters were permitted on campus with Palestinian flags. Some of these protesters burned an Israeli flag.

Why are the students “unsafe” while holding a flag? Is holding a flag that radicals dislike now grounds for arrest in Canada?

The SPVM seem to be doing the bidding of the radicals. They claim that holding one flag is obstruction but holding another is not. Why are they refusing to enforce the law.

Why is carrying the Palestinian flag police-permitted and police-protected freedom of expression, when carrying the Israeli flag isn’t?

Rather than contending with the radicals and arresting them if they commit crimes, the SPVM opted to remove the peaceful students from campus.

Another victory for pro-Hamas radicals on our streets. Another attack on freedom of expression.

MARK CARNEY just created a permanent FOOD BANK program for KIDS in Canada How very SAD

https://breaking-news.ca/mark-carney-just-created-a-permanent-food-bank-program-for-kids-in-canada-how-very-sad/

Melissa LMRogers, a conservative commentator, criticizes Prime Minister Mark Carney’s October 10, 2025, announcement of a permanent National School Food Program as a sign of economic failure, arguing families should provide for children without government aid.

The program expands a 2024 Liberal initiative with $1 billion over five years, aiming to deliver meals to 400,000 children through schools, addressing Statistics Canada data showing 1.4 million kids in food-insecure households amid a 15% rise in national food insecurity to affect one in four Canadians.

Energy Minister Says Alberta’s Pipeline Proposal Needs BC Support to Move Forward

The oil pipeline proposal currently being developed by Alberta will need the backing of B.C.’s government and First Nations along the pipeline route for it to be built, federal Energy Minister Tim Hodgson says.

Alberta announced Oct. 1 that it would take the lead in crafting a pipeline proposal, with expertise and input from industry leaders, and submit the plan to the federal Major Projects Office (MPO) no later than May of next year. The MPO was created under the Carney government’s Building Canada Act and aims to fast-track approval for projects chosen by Ottawa as being in the national interest.

“We have said that to build, you need the support of the jurisdiction you build through and the support of First Nations. The proponent—in this case, the Province of Alberta—must attract that if they want to build,” Hodgson said Oct. 9 in comments to the Senate. He said questions about the proposal are “hypothetical” until an application is received by the MPO.

“That is between the Province of Alberta and the Province of British Columbia,” he added. “We have said we will be a constructive participant in that three-way discussion.”

The proposed pipeline route has not yet been determined, according to Smith, who said it would likely end at Prince Rupert, B.C., or Kitimat, B.C., and carry 1 million barrels of crude oil per day.

When asked about the proposal on Oct. 10, Carney said the project could be possible if it meets the required characteristics. Continue…

Canada’s youth unemployment rate in September reached 14.7 percent, which is the highest level since 2010, excluding the pandemic period.

The youth unemployment rate grew 0.2 percentage points in September, up from 14.5 percent in August, making September’s rate the highest in 15 years, StatCan said in its September Labour Force Survey released Oct. 10. Compared to the same time last year, youth unemployment grew by 1.2 percentage points.

“The increase in the youth unemployment rate over the 12 months to September was primarily due to rising unemployment among students,” StatCan said. Continue…

Ontario Declares Year-Long Measles Outbreak Over

https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/ontario-declares-year-long-measles-outbreak-over-5927883?ea_src=ca-frontpage&ea_med=ontario-declares-year-long-measles-outbreak-over-0

Ontario has declared its measles outbreak over after more than 2,000 cases were reported in the province over the past year.

Public Health Ontario declared the outbreak over as of Oct. 6 in an epidemiology report last updated on Oct. 9. An outbreak is declared over once 46 days have passed since the last outbreak case.

“Although the outbreak is declared over, measles continues to circulate in Canada and globally, so ongoing vigilance for measles case finding and public health follow-up will continue to occur,” the report said.

The province’s first outbreak cases occurred during the week of Oct. 28, 2024, after exposure to a travel-related case in New Brunswick on Oct. 18, 2024, the agency said, noting other provinces have reported measles cases related to the outbreak. New Brunswick declared its outbreak over in January.

While there were a total of 2,375 measles cases reported across 26 local public health units in Ontario during the outbreak, no additional outbreak cases have been reported since the week of Aug. 18 to 24.

There have also been 43 reported cases of non-outbreak related cases, including some related to travel or without a reported source of exposure. Continue…

Quebec’s chief coroner has ordered a public inquiry to examine what’s behind a surge in deadly truck collisions in the province in recent months.

The inquiry, announced Oct. 10, comes amid repeated warnings from trucking industry representatives, who say an increase in unqualified truck drivers in the province is contributing to the spate of deadly accidents. They say some companies, mostly based in Ontario, take advantage of immigrant drivers by paying low wages and forcing them to work below industry standards.

“Following the examination of several fatal collisions involving heavy trucks in recent months, we believe it is necessary to launch this public inquiry to shed light on the existing issues and better protect human life,” Quebec’s chief coroner Reno Bernier said in the announcement. Continue…

B.C. is proposing new rules that would make it easier to meet and negotiate confidentially with First Nations, saying it is putting in changes long-sought by municipalities.

The proposed amendments to existing legislation were put forward by B.C.’s New Democratic Party government in the provincial legislature Oct. 9 and will take effect if and when the bill passes and gets royal assent.

“Local governments have sought a legislative amendment that would allow for in-camera meetings when confidential information relating to negotiations with First Nations or another local government are under discussion,” Cori Ramsay, president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities, said in an Oct. 9 press release from the B.C. government.

“I am pleased to see this change brought into law to provide measures to safeguard confidentiality when it is needed.”

The proposed changes would amend parts of B.C.’s Community Charter and Vancouver Charter if approved. Currently, councils only meet confidentially in exceptional circumstances, but the proposed changes would permit, and sometimes require, confidential meetings when matters are shared between First Nations and municipalities or local governments. Alberta Lawyer Appeals Court Dismissal of Lawsuit Challenging ‘Woke’ Training by Law Society

https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/alberta-lawyer-appeals-court-dismissal-of-lawsuit-challenging-woke-training-by-law-society-5927881?ea_src=ca-frontpage&ea_med=medium-3

An Alberta lawyer who is challenging the provincial law society over its training requirements has appealed a recent decision that dismissed his case.

Lawyer Roger Song filed a lawsuit against the Law Society of Alberta over concerns he had about what he calls mandatory cultural and political training that he said was being imposed on lawyers.

The law society’s professional development documents state that lawyers can demonstrate their “competency” by recognizing “how systemic inequalities and barriers affect individuals and groups” as well as “take action to dismantle systemic inequalities and barriers.”

The documents also encourage attorneys to “develop and promote a deeper understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity” and demonstrate their “cultural competence.”

Song previously asked the court for a judicial review to determine if the law society overstepped its boundaries as defined in the Legal Professions Act. A judicial review is when a court is asked to review a decision of an administrative tribunal and determine if the decision was unfair or unreasonable.

Court of King’s Bench Justice Sherry Kachur dismissed Song’s case, saying in her Sept. 12 decision that the training requirements fall under the law society’s scope. Continue…

“For Canada to be strong at home, we need strong, stable partnerships abroad. I am building bridges and increasing cooperation with India, Singapore and China,” Anand said in an Oct. 10 press release.

“In line with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, I will be working to advance efforts to position Canada as a trusted, reliable partner of choice for Indo-Pacific countries and their economies.”

A senior technical consultant at a fire extinguisher manufacturer said, ‘Regulatory action still lags behind the pace of incidents.’

Lithium-ion battery fires are a growing cause for concern around the world, with fears about how electric vehicles, e-bikes, laptop chargers, and power banks pose a risk to people at home, at work, and on the move.

Fires involving lithium batteries—which are rechargeable—are notoriously difficult to extinguish using conventional firefighting methods.

Meanwhile, global demand for lithium-ion batteries is expected to increase significantly between 2025 and 2030.

Matt Humby, a senior technical consultant at fire extinguisher manufacturer Firechief Global, told The Epoch Times he does not think governments or international regulatory bodies had woken up to the danger lithium batteries represented. Continue…

A Canadian naval officer who allegedly threatened to execute his crew has been docked pay and received a reprimand but most of the details of the incident still remain secret.

During the 2023 incident, the sailors on board Naval Replenishment Unit Motor Vessel Asterix were lined up in three rows at which point the officer allegedly told them he was going to have them shot for poor performance.

In addition, days later another officer was removed from MV Asterix and sent back to Canada after an altercation with a senior Royal Canadian Navy member during a cocktail reception in a foreign port.

In November 2023, the Ottawa Citizen broke the story about the Asterix incidents but defence officials have since remained silent about the two cases.

But in an emailed statement, the Department of National Defence has now acknowledged that the unnamed individuals involved were punished.

One individual was charged with various infractions and a summary hearing was conducted, according to DND. As a result, that person received a reprimand and lost six days pay.

A second individual was charged with various infractions and as a result was given a reprimand and lost ten days pay.

DND declined to provide any other details, including the date of the summary hearings on the Asterix incidents, specific details of the infractions or the names and ranks of the individuals.

DND also declined to differentiate between the two individuals, refusing to say which of the punishments was assigned to the officer who allegedly threatened to execute the crew and which was assigned to the officer who allegedly got into the altercation. Continue…
