The Coolidge Reagan Foundation, a prominent campaign finance watchdog, filed the referrals Tuesday with both the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, demanding a full investigation into a “pattern of foreign money flowing into a New York City mayoral race.”

According to the Fox News, the foundation’s complaint follows revelations that Mamdani’s campaign raked in nearly $13,000 from 170 donors with addresses outside the United States, including one donation reportedly coming from his mother-in-law in Dubai.

“These are not isolated incidents or clerical errors,” said Dan Backer, president of the Coolidge Reagan Foundation.

“This was a sustained pattern of foreign money flowing into a New York City mayoral race which is a clear violation of both federal law and New York City campaign finance rules. A former Army intelligence sergeant once trusted with America’s most sensitive military secrets will serve only four years in prison after trying to pass top-secret information to the Chinese government, all because a federal judge decided to show leniency over his mental health.

Joseph Daniel Schmidt, 31, was once stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington as part of the 109th Military Intelligence Battalion.

He held Top Secret clearance and had access to defense data so sensitive it could compromise national security if exposed.

But according to the Department of Justice, after leaving the Army in 2020, Schmidt reached out directly to the Chinese Consulate in Turkey and later emailed Chinese security services offering to sell national defense information.

In March 2020, Schmidt traveled to Hong Kong, then under Beijing’s tightening grip, and drafted detailed documents outlining “high-level secrets” he was willing to hand over to the Chinese government.

Among the items he kept was a classified access device capable of connecting to secure U.S. military computer systems. Prosecutors said Schmidt offered it to Chinese intelligence agents to “assist them” in breaching American networks.

Schmidt stayed overseas for several years, living mostly in Hong Kong under Chinese control, until October 2023, when he boarded a flight to San Francisco and was promptly arrested upon arrival at the airport.

Despite the clear gravity of the crime — attempting to deliver national defense information to a foreign adversary — Judge John C. Coughenour sentenced him to only four years in prison and three years of supervised release, far below the maximum 20-year penalty for the two espionage-related counts.

According to the DOJ, “Attempt to deliver national defense information and retention of national defense information are both punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.”

“The court weighed the seriousness of Schmidt’s crime and his mental health at the time,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News, confirming that Coughenour viewed his mental condition as a mitigating factor.

Schmidt’s so-called “mental episode” reportedly led to his separation from the Army, and the DOJ says no classified information ultimately reached China.

On Friday Letitia James filed a motion to dismiss the federal indictment arguing that US Attorney Lindsey Halligan’s appointment as interim US Attorney is in violation of the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution.

“Attorney General Letitia A. James, by and through undersigned counsel, pursuant to Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 12(b) moves this Court to dismiss the Government’s indictment because purported interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan had no authority to bring the charges in this case. As explained further below, Ms. Halligan’s purported appointment as interim U.S. Attorney was invalid under 28 U.S.C § 546 and in violation of the Appointments Clause of the United States Constitution,” James’s attorney argued in a motion reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

James also asked Judge Jamar Walker to consolidate her motion challenging the appointment of Halligan with James Comey’s motion in a separate case.

Recall that fired FBI Director James Comey also filed a motion to disqualify Lindsey Halligan after he was indicted by a grand jury in the Eastern District of Virginia.

Last Tuesday, the Chief Judge of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ordered Comey’s motion challenging Halligan to be transferred to Judge Cameron McGowan Currie, a Clinton appointee.

On Friday, Judge Jamar Walker granted Letitia James’ request to consolidate her motion with Comey’s similar motion so the Clinton judge can decide whether Lindsey Halligan will be disqualified in both cases.

“Our lawyers have extensive experience defending Canadians accused of breaching speech codes or uttering speech deemed ‘offensive’ by authorities,” TDF litigation director Mark Joseph stated. “We look forward to sharing our legal expertise and concerns about Bill C-9 with the Committee.”

Bill C-9, the Combating Hate Act, has been blasted by constitutional experts as allowing empowered police and the government to go after those it deems have violated a person’s “feelings” in a “hateful” way.

The Liberals have boasted that the bill will make it a crime for people to block the entrance to, or intimidate people from attending, a church or other place of worship, a school, or a community center. In an October 23 post on X, Lewis encouraged Canadians to demand that politicians debate the WHO Pandemic Agreement before it becomes law after warnings that the treaty could undermine national freedom and lead to global surveillance.

“I have raised red flags about its implications on Canada’s health sovereignty and the federal government’s willingness to enter a legally binding treaty of this weight without any input from Parliament,” she declared.

In May, Canada, under Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney, adopted the treaty despite warnings that the agreement gives the globalist entity increased power in the event of another “pandemic.”

However, Lewis revealed that since the agreement has yet to be officially signed, Canada is not bound to it and can still make amendments.

“We are now in a critical window of opportunity to ask tough questions and debate the treaty before it is signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and binds our nation,” she explained.

Lewis encouraged Canadians to sign a petition calling for a debate of the agreement as well as contacting their local MPs to request a parliamentary review of the treaty. Continue…

Canada Post has laid off an unspecified number of management employees this week, saying the move is meant to cut costs and restructure amid an ongoing contract dispute.

In a memo sent to employees Oct. 28, Canada Post CEO Doug Ettinger said the layoffs are being done in order to restructure the Crown corporation and better meet its “future needs,” according to a copy of the document sent to the Epoch Times by Canada Post. Several media outlets, citing anonymous sources, said dozens of management positions have been cut.

“While these decisions are sometimes necessary, they are never taken lightly,” Ettinger wrote, adding that the agency must “ensure our costs better align to our financial realities, which means our organization will be leaner at all levels going forward.”

Canada Post said in an Oct. 28 statement to the Epoch Times that it will keep its external hiring freeze in place and cut a number of employees primarily through attrition. This past January, several senior Canada Post executives were also laid off.

“As we continue to work on our transformation plan to implement the measures announced by the government on September 25, we will not be sharing further details,” Canada Post said.

“However, we can confirm that the changes will align with the government’s expectation that leadership and structural change from within the corporation is essential. Canada Post must take decisive action to deliver the services Canadians need in a way that is financially sustainable.” Continue…

Bill Allowing Government to Block Internet Access for ‘Specified’ Persons Won’t Be Used for Censorship: Industry Department

A director general from the Industry Department said Bill C-8, which would allow the government to prohibit telecom providers from providing internet services to individuals in certain circumstances, would not be used to censor Canadians’ free speech.

“Individual speech has no bearing on the ability of Bell Canada or Rogers to maintain their network or reliability of their services,” Andre Arbour, the Department of Industry’s director general of telecommunications and internet policy, testified at the House of Commons public safety committee on Oct. 28.

Bill C-8, An Act respecting cyber security, would allow the government to “prohibit a telecommunications service provider from using all products and services provided by a specified person” if it “believes on reasonable grounds that it is necessary to do so to secure the Canadian telecommunications system against any threat.”

The proposed legislation would allow for Ottawa to order internet providers such as Rogers, Bell, and Telus to block specific services for users or shut down an individual’s right to access the internet or phone networks in certain circumstances. The Liberal government has said the bill is necessary to protect Canada from foreign interference and threats from hackers and ransomware fraudsters, while the Conservatives have said the bill will be used to police online speech.

Conservative MP Leslyn Lewis said during a House of Commons debate on Oct. 3 that the legislation would give the government “sweeping powers” that would contravene Sections 7 and 8 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Liberal MP Jacques Ramsay said the bill is needed to protect Canadians from cyber threats from adversaries such as China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.

As originally reported by Blacklock’s Reporter, Arbour said the “unprecedented powers” given to the government through Bill C-8 would not be used for censorship purposes. “The authorities are scoped in terms of needing to protect the Canadian telecommunications system … That means individual commentary of Canadians or their ongoing traffic online is not germane to that, just in practical terms,” he said. Canada’s head of foreign aid defended his department’s record before the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development, saying various programs characterized as extraneous by some opposition MPs are doing necessary and helpful work in foreign nations.

When asked by Conservative MP Lianne Rood about what benefits Canadians are getting as a result of the $8.4 billion spent in foreign aid, Secretary of State for International Development Randeep Sarai said Canada’s programs and funding are carefully vetted before being given the green light and are benefitting Canada’s “soft power” around the world.

Rood asked, “Much of it is going to projects with names like ‘Beans for Women’s Empowerment’ or ‘Gender-Just, Low-Carbon, Rice Value Chains,’ or being funneled through organizations like the U.N. or the World Bank. What return on investment or outcomes can Canadians see coming from this that improves their lives?”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre previously criticized Ottawa for committing $8.2 million to fund a project in Vietnam entitled, “Greening our rice: gender-just, low-carbon, rice value chains in Vietnam.”

Poilievre said on Oct. 6, “While you can’t afford food, Mark Carney spends $8.2 million tax dollars on gender-just, low-carbon rice in Vietnam.”

Sarai said that in addition to alleviating poverty, climate change, and gender inequality, Canada’s aid programs help increase the quality and price of products exported to Canada from nations that are helped economically, such as Vietnam in its rice production.

G7 countries are set to announce a critical minerals pact this week aimed at countering China’s market-distorting practices, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson says.

Hodgson and Environment Minister Julie Dabrusin are hosting a two-day G7 meeting of energy and environment ministers in Toronto this week. Hodgson said a critical minerals pact, set to be unveiled on the second day of the meeting, Oct. 31, will aim to strengthen supply chains and reduce reliance on China.

“You should expect the G7 to focus on any critical mineral where we believe there is general non-market activity, non-free trade type activity to restrict and constrain a normal supply chain,” Hodgson told The Globe and Mail in an interview.

“On Friday, you’ll see mechanisms around several of those critical minerals, and you should expect to see that continue over time.”

The upcoming pact builds on a pledge by G7 leaders at their annual summit in Canada earlier this year to develop an action plan to create “resilient critical minerals supply chains governed by market principles.”

“We recognize that non-market policies and practices in the critical minerals sector threaten our ability to acquire many critical minerals, including the rare earth elements needed for magnets, that are vital for industrial production,” the leaders said in a June 17 joint statement. Continue…

Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S President Donald Trump pointed and smiled at each other as they sat down for dinner together in South Korea on Oct. 29, marking their first interaction in person since Trump called off all trade negotiations with Canada last week.

The two leaders sat across from each other among a small group of leaders who were invited to a dinner hosted by South Korean President Lee Jae-Myung, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit set to begin on Oct. 31. Signs on the dinner tables indicated the dinner was in honour of Trump “and state leaders.”

When asked by reporters if he had a message for Trump as he arrived at the dinner, Carney said, “I have a message for this president,” while pointing at Lee. “I’m very happy to be here,” he said.

Trump has repeatedly said he doesn’t plan to meet with Carney at the summit. He said on Oct. 27 that he’s not interested in meeting with Carney “for a while.” Trump made the comment after he cancelled trade talks and announced tariffs on Canada would be increased by 10 percent due to an anti-tariff TV ad put out by the Ontario government.

“For those that are asking, we didn’t come to South Korea to see Canada!” Trump posted to Truth Social late on Oct. 28.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commissioner has told MPs that Ottawa should crack down on illegal guns coming over the U.S. border instead of collecting guns from law-abiding citizens through its buyback program, saying 91 percent of guns used in crime come from the United States.

“We will exceed over 2,000 crime guns this year again—91 percent of them are coming in from the U.S.,” OPP Commissioner and Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police president Thomas Carrique told MPs at a House of Commons justice committee meeting on Oct. 28.

“These are the dangers. These are the strains and drains on our resources, and this is where we need to be spending our time and our attention.”

Carrique told MPs it’s “very rare” that legally owned firearms are used in crimes or in violent acts. He said time and resources should be spent focusing on illegal guns coming to Canada across the U.S. border, instead of focusing on collecting guns from law-abiding firearm owners.

“Our concern as Canadians should be on those crime guns that are primarily coming from the U.S,” Carrique said. “They are illegal from the day they arrive, and we need to focus our attentions on the border to lock that down.”

Carrique was called to testify in committee on Canada’s bail system, sentencing, and handling of repeat violent offenders. He spoke on the issue of gun crime in response to questions from Conservative MPs. Continue…

When regulators hide technologies from consumers, they don’t protect science — they poison trust.

Sometimes the most significant food-policy changes happen not with a bang, but with a bureaucratic whisper.

According to Health Canada’s own consultation documents, Ottawa intends to remove foods derived from cloned cattle and swine from its “novel foods” list — the very process that requires a pre-market safety review and triggers public disclosure. Once this policy takes effect, cloned-animal products could enter the Canadian food supply without announcement, notice, or label.

From a regulatory standpoint, this looks like an efficiency measure. From a consumer-trust standpoint, it’s a miscalculation.

Health Canada’s rationale is familiar: cloned animals and their offspring are, by composition, indistinguishable from conventional ones. Therefore, the logic goes, they should be treated the same. The problem isn’t the science — it’s the silence.

Canadians are not being told that the rules governing a deeply controversial technology are about to change. No press release, no public statement, just a quiet update on a government website most citizens will never read. Continue…
