Section 1344 and False Statements to a Financial Institution under 18 U.S.C. Section 1014.

The story of the Social Democrat (SPD) mayor from Herdecke, Iris Stalzer, has taken yet another incredible turn.

New information now reveals that her 17-year-old adopted daughter reportedly tortured Stalzer for hours, nearly killing her own mother. Despite these details, the daughter still has not been arrested.

Stalzer has spoken to the police about what transpired during her ordeal, and now, the details have been leaked to Bild newspaper.

On Oct. 7, at 12:05 p.m., Stalzer’s daughter called emergency services saying her mother had been attacked by several men, was severely injured and was barely conscious.

A witness off the street found the politician bleeding in her armchair in the living room. Later, the adopted daughter told police that was also how she found her mother.

However, despite claims of “several men” torturing the mother, it turns out this was reportedly an orchestrated lie to cover up the horror that had occurred inside the house. Police have since learned that the mother was subjected to grueling torture for hours in the basement of the house.

The suspect attacked Stalzer with deodorant spray and a lighter, trying to set her hair and clothes on fire. The adopted daughter said she wanted revenge; however, it is still remains unclear what she wanted to take revenge for.

The adopted daughter also had two kitchen knives, which she used to stab and slice the politician’s body. Stazler faced critical injuries, including 13 stab wounds.

One of the bloody knives was also found in the 15-year-old adopted son’s backpack, along with bloody clothing from the daughter. The other knife was also found in his room.

Police investigators also found that large traces of blood were scrubbed from the scene, which were later revealed by the police forensics team.

A judge has tossed Drake’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG), filed against the label after it released Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy-winning track “Not Like Us.”

Drake contended that UMG spread defamatory claims that he was a pedophile, made secret payments, and offered reduced licensing rates to promote Lamar’s diss track.

But U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas dismissed Drake’s case on Thursday, saying that Lamar’s track is “nonactionable opinion” and not defamation.

Drake was signed to Republic Records and Lamar was with Interscope Records. But both are under the UMG umbrella. So, Drake was more-or-less suing his own label.

Drake maintained that Lamar presented his accusations as stated fact that Drake was a pedophile. But the judge insisted that since Lamar’s tune was dropped during his battle with Drake, it can’t be assumed to be presented as fact, but, instead, presented as hyperbole.

“The average listener is not under the impression that a diss track is the product of a thoughtful or disinterested investigation, conveying to the public fact-checked verifiable content,” Judge Vargas wrote.

Drake insisted that Lamar’s lyrics stated straight out that he is a pedo.

“It is not at all clear that this is a natural reading of this lyric,” the judge added. “Even if this line was susceptible to such an interpretation standing alone, however, no reasonable listener could understand it in this way given the overall context. Indeed, during this rap battle, Drake and Lamar each used similar hyperbolic threatening language.”

Drake was stung early in their feud when Lamar disagreed that Drake was in the same league and he was far better than Drake. The two traded barbs, but Drake ended up the worse for the feud when fans felt that Lamar won the diss battle between the two with the release of “Not Like Us.”

“The time has come to affirm, in a clear manner, the constitutional existence of the Quebec nation,” he continued. “The constitution will include all of our rules, all of our fundamental values in one unique law. It will become the law of all the laws.”

US Attorney General Greg Kehoe said that the letter addressed to Johnson had said that the suspect wanted to "strangle [Johnson] with an American flag" as well as orphan his children.

The rate of violent crimes reported in Canada rose by 13 percent from 1998 to 2008, and by nine percent from 2009 to 2023, while rates in the United States dipped 37 percent over a span of 25 years, StatCan found.

Health Canada Expands Portable Charger Recall After Additional Fire Reports

Health Canada has issued an expanded recall notice for ESR HaloLock wireless power blocks used for mobile phone charging after receiving reports the products caused fires in Canada and the United States.

There have been nine reports of fires resulting in property damage in Canada and 11 in the United States as of Sept. 26, the health agency said in its Oct. 9 recall notice. No injuries have been reported thus far.

The fires are caused when the lithium-ion battery inside the recalled power banks overheats, the notice said.

All ESR HaloLock Wireless Power Bank products with model numbers 2G520, 2G505B, 2G512B, and 2G505, are being recalled by Waymeet Ltd. The model number is located on the side of the power banks, which are available in various colours, including black, white, light blue, dark blue, and grey.

“Immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Waymeet Limited for a full refund,” Health Canada said. “Dispose of it by contacting your municipality for instructions on how to safely transport and dispose of lithium-ion batteries.”

The company reported that 11,757 of the impacted products were sold in Canada and 46,190 were sold in the United States from October 2022 to July 2025. The chargers are manufactured in China. Continue…

U.S. tariffs on certain Canadian sectors will likely remain in place even with a re-negotiated United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in 2026, Prime Minister Mark Carney says.

Carney made the comments at an Oct. 10 press conference, saying approximately 85 percent of trade with the United States remains tariff-free, and “one of the possibilities” is that this would continue under a revised USMCA deal.

“But what’s also very clear is that there are certain sectors—steel, aluminum, autos, forest products, pharmaceuticals—the Americans have decided are strategic, and they have trade actions against everybody in the world,” Carney said.

The prime minister said Canada is negotiating “specific sectoral deals” with the United States, and these would “likely persist” with a revised USMCA deal.

Carney said Trump had “expressed his preference” for specific sectoral deals. “It means that this is not… one simple trade deal which will resolve all the issues,” he said. Continue…

The trial of a former Hydro-Québec employee accused of economic espionage for Beijing began in a Quebec court on Oct. 9, after delays related to the utility’s request to keep certain corporate information confidential.

The trial for Yuesheng Wang, 38, a former employee at Hydro-Québec, was scheduled to begin on Oct. 6 but was delayed after the utility raised concerns that evidence presented in open court could reveal sensitive business and client information. Wang is accused of spying for China while employed at Hydro-Québec.

Quebec Court Judge Jean-Philippe Marcoux on Oct. 9 rejected Hydro-Québec’s request to preemptively redact some information, saying the information in question did not pose a serious risk to commercial interests and was not sensitive enough to qualify as a commercial secret.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is mocking Vancouver’s parks and recreation board after its commissioners unanimously voted to apologize for hosting a Harry Potter event that is set to open in the city next month.

“To be honest, I didn’t even know Vancouver Parks and Recreations had avowed me, so the disavowal hasn’t been much of a blow,” Rowling said in an Oct. 9 X post. “Next time, send me a certificate of avowal, wait until I’ve proudly framed it, hung it over my PC and taken a selfie with it, THEN revoke it.”

She posted a screenshot of an Oct. 8 X post by Vancouver parks board commissioner Tom Digby, in which he said the board “did the right thing” by apologizing to the LGBT community and disavowing Rowling. He said the board will “undertake concrete actions” to rebuild the community’s trust.

Digby tabled a motion at an Oct. 7 committee meeting that called on the city’s parks and recreation board to apologize for the “harm caused” to the LGBT community by hosting the event “Harry Potter: A Forbidden Forest Experience.” The event is set to open Nov. 7 in Stanley Park and the city says the event will be presented for “a limited time.” Continue…

Carney Makes Pre-Budget Announcement on Automatic Tax Filing, School Food Program, Parks Pass

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced updates on some benefit programs, including provisions for automatic tax filing and benefits for low-income Canadians, ahead of the release of the federal budget in November.

The prime minister said on Oct. 10 that tax filing will be made automatic for low-income Canadians so they don’t miss qualifying for benefits. He also announced the national school food program will be made permanent, and the Canada Strong Pass for free or discounted admission to national sites will be extended.

Carney made the announcement at a press conference at a recreation centre in an Ottawa, saying the three new measures will be included in the upcoming federal budget, to be tabled on Nov. 4.

As part of the measures, beginning in the 2026 tax year, low-income Canadians will receive automatic federal benefits, with the Canada Revenue Agency automatically filing their taxes to allow them to receive benefits like the GST/HST credit, Canada Disability Benefit, and Canada Child Benefit.

The prime minister said millions of Canadians do not file their taxes, “either because they don’t have the resources to do so, or because they think that their income is too low for it to matter.” He said this means they often miss out on benefits that they are entitled too.

The national school food program will also be made permanent, which will provide meals for up to 400,000 Canadian children. Continue…

A thief who stole a Patek Philippe watch worth more than $120,000 from Tim Hortons president Axel Schwan has been sentenced to two years in jail.

Ahmed Djidi, 26, was part of a gang that ripped the watch from Schwan’s wrist as he was walking through Mayfair, an upscale London, U.K. neighbourhood, on June 30 last year, according to the Daily Mail.

Schwan is president of Tim Hortons’ Canadian and U.S. businesses.

Djidi appeared in a London court on Thursday, where he was sentenced, aided by an Arabic interpreter, to 22 months behind bars. He had already admitted to one count of theft at a court hearing back in June, Court News U.K. reported at the time. Continue…
