Hamas Military Chief Opposes Trump’s Peace Plan.

PULSE POINTS

❓WHAT HAPPENED: The leader of Hamas’ military wing in Gaza has reportedly rejected U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s peace plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.

👤WHO WAS INVOLVED: Izz al-Din al-Haddad of Hamas, President Donald J. Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and other regional leaders.

📍WHEN & WHERE: The peace plan was announced on September 29, 2025.

💬KEY QUOTE:“We have one signature that we need, and that signature will pay in Hell if they don’t sign.” – President Trump

🎯IMPACT:The plan faces resistance from Hamas leaders, despite being backed by most Middle Eastern governments.

IN FULL

The head of Hamas‘s military wing in Gaza, Izz al-Din al-Haddad, has reportedly rejected the 20-point peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald J. Trump. The proposal, which Israel has endorsed, aims to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza through measures such as disarmament, the release of hostages, and the establishment of a Palestinian transitional government.

Trump issued a deadline of three to four days for Hamas to accept the plan, warning of “a very sad end” if the group refuses. The plan includes provisions for large-scale aid to Gaza, the release of Palestinian prisoners, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces, but it requires Hamas to relinquish its control over the territory.

Hamas leaders are reportedly divided on the proposal, with some political figures in Qatar expressing willingness to negotiate amendments. However, the group’s military wing, led by al-Haddad, remains opposed, citing distrust of Israel and concerns over disarmament and the creation of a security buffer zone along Gaza’s borders.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also expressed reservations, despite endorsing the plan. In a video posted on social media, Netanyahu stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would maintain a presence in parts of Gaza, potentially contradicting some elements of the U.S.-backed proposal.

Regional leaders, including the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt, have voiced support for Trump’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of a two-state solution. However, The National Pulse reported on Wednesday that United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur for the so-called Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, is calling on Palestinians to reject President Trump’s plan, dismissing it as the “Trap of the Century.”

Ukraine threatens ‘Moscow blackout’

Kiev has for months been striking Russian energy facilities and residential areas

Ukraine’s leadership has threatened to conduct long-range strikes on Moscow that could cause a full blackout if Russia tries to cause massive outages in Kiev this winter.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky said last week that Kiev would retaliate to any Russian effort to completely disable Kiev’s energy infrastructure.

“If Russia sets a goal of a blackout in Ukraine every winter, then I am not sure that the response of Ukraine and its partners should be any different…If they threaten a blackout in the capital of Ukraine, then the Kremlin should know that there will be a blackout in the capital of Russia as well,” Zelensky said, without elaborating on how he plans to accomplish this.

On Wednesday, Ukraine’s chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Andrey Gnatov, reiterated the threat, warning that “any action of the enemy that is aimed at harming our country will receive a symmetrical response.”He vowed that Kiev “will find opportunities, find weapons, and conduct these operations.”

Ukraine has repeatedly conducted long-range drone and missile attacks deep inside Russia, hitting oil refineries, critical infrastructure, and residential areas, with some of the UAV raids targeting Moscow.Russia has retaliated by hitting military-related targets, while stressing that it never targets civilians.

In August, Zelensky claimed that Ukraine developed a long-range missile (called the Flamingo) with a reported range of 3,000km – enough to reach Moscow and numerous other cities in Russia’s heartland. The Ukrainian leader, however, said that mass production is not expected for the next several months.

US officials have also said they are considering supplying Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, with a range of 1,600km which could also reach Moscow. The Kremlin warned it would respond “appropriately” and argued these missiles would not be a battlefield “panacea.”

Last month, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia would not tolerate Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure, warning that this would trigger a “serious retaliation.”

(It’s been said the Kremlin haven’t released their big guns yet! So Kiev is walking into a trap.)

Russia reports new prisoner swap with Ukraine

Each side returned 185 troops, the Defense Ministry has said

Russia and Ukraine have each returned 185 troops from captivity in the latest prisoner exchange, the Defense Ministry in Moscow reported on Thursday.

Additionally, 20 civilians were released by Ukraine, the statement added, without indicating whether a reciprocal move was taken by Russia. Both groups are currently receiving medical and psychological assistance in Belarus, the ministry added.

The swap was conducted “in accordance with Russian-Ukrainian agreements reached on July 23 in Istanbul,” the statement said, referring to the Türkiye-hosted direct talks between the two nations.

Footage later released by the ministry shows soldiers covering their shoulders with Russian flags and chanting “Hurray!” before boarding a bus.

Multiple prisoner exchanges were conducted both before and after the three rounds of Istanbul talks held this year. Moscow said it was willing to release as many Ukrainian prisoners of war as Kiev would be able to compensate on an equal basis.

Additionally, there were several rounds of exchanges of slain soldiers, in which no such parity was observed. During the latest swap in mid-September, 1,000 bodies of Ukrainian troops and 24 bodies of Russian troops were returned.

Moscow has hailed the repatriations as an example of constructive diplomacy with Ukraine, butaccused Kiev of obstructing attempts to negotiate a broader agreement on resolving the armed conflict.

The Ukrainian government is urging Western backers to impose more sanctions against Russia andincrease military and financial assistance for Kiev, claiming that this would help it turn the tables on Moscow.

Germany can’t shoot down suspected Russian drones – Bild

The military’s diminished short-range defense capabilities are reportedly inadequate for the challenge

The German military is unable to intercept unidentified drones that have appeared over key sites in recent weeks, due to gaps in capabilities and risks to civilian air traffic, Bild reported on Thursday.

The newspaper called theconclusions “sobering and hardly reassuring,” tracing the vulnerability to the “abolishment” of air defenses in 2010.That year, Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns were retired, as short-range air defense was shifted from the army to the air force during structural reforms, leaving the army with fewer practical options for countering low-flying threats.

Germany still fields several ground-based defense systems, including US-made Patriot long-range missiles, MANTIS close-range stationary guns, and Ozelot launchers that fire Stinger missiles from Wiesel 2 light armored vehicles. But defense experts have warned for years that Germany lacks sufficient short-range capabilities.

Brightly lit mystery drones have been reported in recent weeks over several European countries, including Germany. Their origin remains unidentified, but some officials have suggested Russia may be behind them.

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky alleged that Russia has been launching drones from oil tankers operating under foreign flags – which Western governments have claimed are a ‘Russian shadow fleet’.

Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), however, accused Kiev of staging drone provocations, claiming that a recent incursion into Polish airspace– blamed by Warsaw on Moscow – was actually a Ukrainian false-flag operation.

European leaders met in Copenhagen this week to discuss a proposed “drone wall,” a system meant to counter unmanned aerial threats. Media reports indicate that the talks produced little progress, citing concerns about intercepting drones near civilian air routes as a major obstacle.

EU behaving like criminal ‘gang’ – Kremlin

The bloc will face legal consequences if it moves to “steal” Moscow’s frozen assets, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said

The EU countriesdebating ways they could “steal” Russian assetsto prop up Ukraine are behaving like a criminal “gang,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

EU leaders convened on Wednesday in Copenhagen for an informal summit to discuss a plan to provide Ukraine with a €140 billion ($164 billion) loan backed by Russia's immobilized central bank assets. Some of the bloc’s members, however, continued to voice concerns about the legal risks associated with such a step.

Most notably, Belgium’s Prime Minister Bart De Wever, whose country hosts Euroclear, where most EU-held Russian assets sit, cautioned his colleagues that“there’s no free money. There are always consequences.” “I want their signaturesaying, if we take [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s money…we’re all going to be responsible if it goes wrong,” he said. Luxembourg’s prime minister, Luc Frieden, voiced similar apprehensions.

Commenting on the deliberations on Thursday, Peskov likened the EU to agroup of mobsters planning their next heist. “This all looks like a gang: someone keeps lookout, someone robs, and someone, like Belgium, shouts, ‘Guys, let’s share responsibility,” he quipped, adding that those involved would face “legal and other possible accountability.”

A day earlier, he said the ideas under discussion amounted to theft. “We are talking about plans for the illegal seizure of Russian property,”Peskov said, warning such moves would “completely” undermine trust in the inviolability of property and that “the boomerang will very seriously hit” key depository countries.

After the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, Western governments froze roughly $300 billion in Russian sovereign assets, about €210 billion of which is in Europe, including some €185 billion at Brussels-based Euroclear. WhileEU officials have for months discussed ways to confiscate the funds outrightand hand them over to Ukraine, they have so far refrained from doing so due to the enormous legal and reputational risks such a move would entail.

However, the EU moved to channel the interest accrued by the assets to Ukraine, having already transferred an estimated €4 billion to Kiev.

(The only reason the EU are making Kiev continue the war, is to not deal with theinternational theft of another’s country’s money. They are imagining Kiev could win because they know they violated international law. The EU has been acting like criminals for many years when they stopped being a Commercial Quorum to make more money for all countries, and ended up being a military force in costumes. They fail to realize the more threats they hurl at Russia, the more Russia recruits more soldiers.)

Brussels wants frozen Russian funds to boost EU weapons industry – Politico

The bloc has reportedly proposed a €140 billion “reparations loan” funded by profits from Moscow’s frozen assets to finance arms for Kiev

EU policymakers are weighing plans to tap frozen Russian sovereign assets to bankroll Ukraine’s war effort, prioritizing purchases of weapons manufactured in the bloc, Politico reported on Wednesday.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen this week proposed a €140 billion ($165 billion) “reparations loan” funded by profits from the immobilized assets, pitching it as a way to boost Europe’s defense industry by directing part of the funds to buy EU-made weapons for Kiev.

“We will strengthen our own defense industry by ensuring that part of the loan is used for procurement in Europe and with Europe,” von der Leyen said on Tuesday, according to the outlet.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has led the push to steer the loan towards weapons rather than Ukraine’s reconstruction, a move that has won backing from across the bloc, four officials and diplomats told Politico.“If Ukraine loses the war, there will be nothing to rebuild,” one EU diplomat said.

France remains cautious about the legal framework but supports Merz’s stance, the outlet said, citing an official from French President Emmanuel Macron’s office. Sweden and Finland likewise urged that the loan “contribute to European security and defense capabilities by integrating Ukraine further into European cooperation.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned on Wednesday that EU plans to use the frozen Russian assets for Ukraine would amount to theft, trigger lawsuits, and erode trust in the Western financial system.

“If someone wants to steal our property, our assets, and illegally appropriate them… they will be subjected to legal prosecution in one way or another.”

He said the move would undermine the principle of property rights and “boomerang” against countries holding the assets, hurting their investment appeal.

Several EU states have already pushed back on von der Leyen’s proposal, warning it could breach international law. Belgium has been especially critical, with Prime Minister Bart De Wever calling it a “dangerous precedent.”

Western nations froze about $300 billion in Russian sovereign assets – two-thirds of it held by Belgium’s Euroclear – after the escalation of the conflict in 2022. The EU has so far transferred over a billion from interest to Kiev.

(They come with these discussions every couple of months to throw it in Russia’s face. They are really the Mafia of Europe.)

Germans hit with huge extra energy costs due to Ukraine conflict – Bild

Gas in the country is currently at least 74% more expensive than in 2021, when most of it was supplied by Russia

German families have overpaid thousands in energy costs sincethe escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022 due to price spikes triggeredby the loss of cheap Russian gas, Bild reported on Wednesday.

Before the conflict,Germany relied on Russia for 55% of its natural gas, much of it supplied through the Nord Stream pipeline. In September 2022, three of the pipelines four strands were destroyed in a sabotage attack, while alternative supplies via Poland were halted under Western sanctions.

Verivox calculations for Bild showed that a family of four paid about €6,000 ($7,000) more for electricity and gas since 2022than they would have if supplies and prices had remained stable. Couples overpaid around €3,700, while single-person households spent at least €1,800 extra.

“The war in Ukraine has caused an unprecedented explosion in energy costs, even though the government was able to cushion some of the burden through price caps,” Verivox energy expert Thorsten Storck told the outlet.

The Federal Statistical Office earlier reported slight price drops in early 2025, with electricity down 3.1% and gas 1.2% from last year’s levels. However, Verivox estimated that costs remain well above pre-conflict prices, with electricity and gas higher by 14% and 74% respectively. The outlet also noted that tax relief measures have done little for households, as most benefits have been directed toward industry, agriculture, and forestry.

Germany’s economy contracted in 2024 after a 0.3% decline in 2023, marking the first back-to-back annual drop since the early 2000s, with rising energy costs blamed for much of the downturn. Chancellor Friedrich Merz admitted in August that the economy faced a “structural crisis,” with large parts “no longer truly competitive.”Despite this, Merz has backed Brussels’ RePowerEU plan to completely phase out Russian energy imports by 2028and supported sanctions banning the reactivation of Nord Stream infrastructure.

Moscow has condemned Western sanctions as illegal and self-defeating, especially with regard to energy. Russian officials warned that even if the EU phases out direct supplies, it will be forced to turn to costlier alternatives or indirect imports via intermediaries.

EU spent €8.7 billion on Russian imports in three months – German data

Member states continue to buy energy resources from Russia despite EU sanctions, Bild has reported

EU member states imported €8.7 billion ($10.2 billion) worth of Russian goods in the first three months of 2025 alone, Bild has reported, citing data from the German Economic Institute.

In the first quarter of this year, the EU-Russia trade balance was slightly skewed in Moscow’s favor, meaning that the bloc purchased more from its eastern neighbor than it sold. The German media outlet singled out natural gas imports, accounting for €4.4 billion, and crude oil at €1.4 billion as the top two items being imported by Russia to the EU

In the wake of the Ukraine conflict escalation in February 2022, the bloc declared its intention to cut economic ties with Moscow. While imports of Russian gas and oil have dropped significantly since, a number of EU nations still source a large proportion of their energy supplies from Russia.

Several member states have watched their industries lose ground globally after switching to costlier alternatives.

Also topping the list in early 2025 were Russian fertilizers, iron and steel, as well as nickel, according to Bild.

Earlier this year, the European Commission proposed its RePowerEU Roadmap that envisages a complete phase-out of all Russian energy imports by the end of 2027.

Hungary and Slovakia, both heavily dependent on Russian energy supplies, have strongly opposed the plan, saying that it would undermine their respective energy security.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto accused certain memberstates earlier this month of “hypocrisy,” claiming that they are still buying “Russian oil secretly” via Asian intermediaries.

In August, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz acknowledged that his country was “not just in a period of economic weakness, we are in a structural crisis of our economy,” citing falling earnings by Germany’s major automakers.

Commenting on the bloc’s economic woes back in April, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that “this is the true cost of the EU’s anti-Russian agenda.”

“Russophobia is an expensive obsession,” she concluded.

‘Useless’ von der Leyen ‘should quit’ – Ryanair boss

Michael O’Leary says EC president can’t manage drone threat

Ryanair CEO MichaelO’Leary has slammed Brussels for failing to protect the bloc’s airports from drones, calling for European Commission president Ursula von derLeyen to resign. He has argued that unauthorized UAVs disrupting air traffic should be shot down.

Mysterious drone sightings have plagued the bloc in recent weeks, with some Western media and officials speculating that Russia could be behind them, which Moscow has denied.Von der Leyen pitched the idea of a “drone wall”in her State of the Union speech last month, and the notion was raised again at an informal EU summit in Denmark this week.

In an interview with Politico published on Wednesday,O’Leary dismissed the idea.

“I don’t think a drone wall has any effect whatsoever,” he said, adding that perpetrators could easily launch drones from inside the affected country. O’Leary accused Brussels of inaction and called for tougher measures against the alleged drone threat.

“Why aren’t we shooting these drones down? It’s disruptive, and we’re calling for action,” he stated.

“I have no faith in European leaders sitting around drinking tea and eating biscuits… I have no faith in von der Leyen. She’s useless and she should quit.”

While leaders in Copenhagen voiced support for anti-drone technology, no official framework for the “drone wall” was unveiled, with decisions postponed until the EU summit later this month. Ahead of the meeting,Denmark imposed a temporary ban on civilian drones in its airspace, and reportedly called up part of its reserve force to help manage what it described as a “complex”situation caused by repeated sightings.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called the claims Western “scaremongering,” when addressing the UN last week, stressing that Russia “never directs our drones or missiles at states in Europe, members of the EU, or NATO countries.” Lavrov added that in past incidents where Moscow was blamed, “it turned out that it was the Ukrainians” behind them.

Von der Leyen slammed for misleading media – Politico

The EU chief has faced criticism over transparency and secrecy ahead of two no-confidence votes, according to the outlet (Politico the biggest liars of the world, calling out another big liar)

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has faced growing criticism over her failure to provide consistent and accurate information to the press, Politico reported on Wednesday.

The so-called “spokesperson’s service,” which handles media relations for the Commission, has drawn numerous complaints for limited access and tightly controlled messaging.

Reporters have been “complaining for monthsabout being spoon-fed [sanitized press statements] and not having the real information,”Dafydd ab Iago, head of the International Press Association, told Politico.

After speaking with 12 Commission officials, lobbyists, EU policy experts, and reporters,Politico highlighted several recent incidents where von der Leyen’s office gave “confusing, contradictory or misleading information” that critics say reflects a tightly centralized and risk-averse leadership style.

One example was her office’s claim that Russia had jammed the GPS on her plane during a trip to Bulgaria last month.

Initial briefings suggested “blatant interference”that forced the aircraft to circle for an hour. But as evidence disproved the claim, Commission spokespersons backtracked, saying they had never spoken of targeting – only to later return to the line that possible interference had required investigation.

Moscow dismissed the allegation as “preposterous.”

Beyond media complaints, von der Leyen has alsofaced increasing pushback for her foreign policy positions. In her State of the Union speech last month, she urged scrapping unanimity in EU decision-making on sanctions and military aid– a move Hungary and Slovakia said would strip member states of sovereignty.

She has been accused of trying to put the EU on a war footing and ignoring dissent among membersby pressing for a large-scale military buildup and channeling billions into arms procurement, citing a supposed threat by Moscow. Russia has consistently rejected claims of hostile intent.

Von der Leyen faces two censure votes in the European Parliament this month, withsupporters of the motions saying she has “failed on trade, abandoned transparency, and rejected accountability” while funneling billions into war and gutting social protection.

US ‘must prepare for war’ – Pentagon chief

Washington urgently needs more troops, weapons, and munitions, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has stated

The US must prepare for war, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has told a gathering of senior military commanders. He called it a matter of utmost urgency but did not name any specific adversaries America could face in the near future.

The Pentagon has recently completed two major policy reviews, one of which was a new National Defense Strategy that shifts priorities from China to homeland security and the Western Hemisphere.

“To ensure peace, we must prepare for war,”Hegseth told hundreds of US generals and admirals at a Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday. He also claimed that “pacifism is … naïve and dangerous.”

According to the defense secretary, the US military needs more troops, weapons and ammunition. “This is a moment of urgency, mounting urgency,” he stated, citing alleged growing threats. Hegseth did not name any specific ones beyond the need to deter China. He also announced looser rules of engagement that would allow the US military to “intimidate, demoralize, hunt, and kill the enemies.”

His words were echoed by the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, GeneralDan Caine, who told the gathering that America “must be prepared for war.” He also mentioned unspecified “global risks” that he said were “on the rise.”

Last month, President Donald Trump rebranded the Defense Department as the Department of War. On Tuesday, Hegseth stated that fighting wars would be its sole mission. The announcements came as thePentagon awarded weapons manufacturer Raytheon a $5 billion contract for its Coyote missile systemamid an unprecedented budget expansion.

The White House’s defense budget request for fiscal year 2026 amounted to $1.01 trillion, a 13.4% increase from the previous year. Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Pentagon was seeking to “double or even quadruple” missile production, citing fears of depleted stocks. The report linked this to potential preparations for a conflict with China.

OpenAI Releases Ghoulish AI Video of Sam Altman

"Unsettling, empty, soulless filth."

Victor Tangermann Avatar

By Victor Tangermann

Published Oct 1, 2025 10:31 AM EDT

OpenAI has officially unveiled its latest text-to-video and audio AI generator, Sora 2.

So far, we’re not quite convinced by the company’s marketing efforts. In an unsettling promotional clip, an algorithmically synthesized version of OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, announces the company’s answer to Meta’s Vibes app — a TikTok-like experience designed to expose users to an endless deluge of AI slop.

The issue? The AI-generated Altman suffers from chronic issues plaguing AI-generated footage: it looks unconvincing and unreal.

“One year, we redefined what is possible with moving images,” the fake Altman says in a clearly robotic and AI-generated voice, referring to the company’s preceding Sora video generator, which was released in December 2024.

“Today, we’re announcing the Sora app,” he added, while a pair of piercing blue eyes stared unblinkingly into the camera.

It’s a disconcerting appearance, falling just short of clearing the uncanny valley.

The rest of the promotional video is a mind-numbing parade of AI-generated clips, from jockeys riding unicorns to a stadium-lit Altman attending what appears to be a sporting event involving humans riding oversized ducks.

Users on social media were taken aback by the slop fest — and didn’t hold back in their feedback.

“This feels uncomfortably soulless to watch,” one X-formerly-Twitter user chimed in. “It’s somehow like watching a dead person dance, very unsettling. Like the beginning of a nightmare, where you haven’t seen the monster yet, but you already know something is very wrong.”

“What the fresh f**king hell is this turd-pile?”cinematographer James Rogers added. “I hate everything about this. Unsettling, empty, soulless filth.”

“Prompting isn’t creativity,” one user tweeted. “It never will be.”

OpenAI is betting huge on its video generator, claiming that Sora 2’s “advanced world simulation capabilities” will be “critical for training AI models that deeply understand the physical world.”

In one demonstration, the company showed that Sora 2 effortlessly rendered a video of a gymnast flipping on a balance beam — a subject thatled its preceding model to hilariously fail the “Turing test for AI video” by turning the athlete into a grotesque, flailing ball of far too many limbs.

While it’s certainly an improvement over last year’s AI video generator, countless users are already balking at OpenAI’s efforts to force-feed even more AI-generated slop to the masses by packaging it into a smartphone app.

“We will produce levels of slop one could only imagine before,” one X user joked.

OpenAI’s originality also leaves something to be desired. The news comes roughly a week after Meta unveiled Vibes, an extremely similar TikTok-like video feed of AI slop. Netizens weren’t impressed with that effort either, calling it “hot garbage” and an “infinite slop machine,” while questioning who could possibly want to swipe through fake videos of snowboardersjumping over rubber ducks or a cat-headed news anchor.

“Good news y’all, Mark Zuckerberg’s new idea that we’re forcing on everybody is finally here,” The Daily Show‘s Michael Kosta said in a scathing satire of Vibes.

“Our AI video tools are set to completely revolutionize how dumb fking losers create shty little videos,” Kosta added. “And we’re so stoked about it.”

In short, both OpenAI and Meta will certainly have their work cut out to convince users that an app entirely dedicated to AI slop will meaningfully justify the tens of billions of dollars they’re pouring into the tech.

“Eat your slop, piggies,” Kosta said mockingly. “Eat it from the palm of our hands.”

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway set to make its biggest deal in three years

By Jordan Valinsky, CNN

EDT, Thu October 2, 2025

Berkshire Hathaway, the Warren Buffett-owned conglomerate, has announced its biggest deal in three years with the planned acquisition of OxyChem for $9.7 billion.

This will be Buffett’s biggest deal since he paid $11.6 billion for Alleghany, an insurance company, in 2022. Buffett, 95, recently announced he was stepping down as CEO at the end of the year.

OxyChem is the chemical business of Occidental, in which Buffett is a major investor. About $6.5 billion of the all-cash deal announced Thursday will be used to pay down Occidental’s debt, which has ballooned to more than $20 billion.

According to its website, OxyChem makes a variety of chemicals that are used in IV bags, swimming pools and caustic soda, which is “central to the production of pulp, paper and aluminum, and is used in battery recycling.”

“OxyChem has grown under Occidental into a well-run, safely operated business with best-in-class employees, and we are confident the business and those employees will continue to thrive under Berkshire Hathaway’s ownership,” said Occidental CEO Vicki Hollub in a press release.

Shares of Occidental (OXY) rose less than 1% in premarket trading. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year.

Greta Thunberg and other activists detained as Israeli military intercepts Gaza-bound aid ships

The Israeli military has intercepted dozens of boats sailing as part of an aid flotilla towards Gaza, detaining hundreds of passengers including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, organizers said, and triggering global condemnation.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) was trying to break Israel’s 18-year blockade of Gaza and get aid into the war-ravaged enclave using ships that set sail from ports across the Mediterranean.

The Israeli foreign ministry said that one last ship remained as of Thursday afternoon.

“One last vessel of this provocation remains at a distance. If it approaches, its attempt to enter an active combat zone and breach the blockade will also be prevented,” the foreign ministry said on X.

Flotilla organizers labeled Israel’s interception of the ships “an illegal attack” on humanitarians, while Israel said the activists were “not interested in aid, but in provocation.”

Here’s what we know about the flotilla.

The interception

The first ships were intercepted and boarded by Israeli forces Wednesday evening local time about 70 nautical miles from Gaza, according to the GSF, which accused Israel of aggressively targeting its vessels.

GSF said on Telegram one vessel was “deliberately rammed” while two others were “targeted with water cannons.” It posted a video it said showed the Yulara vessel being hit with water cannons, adding that nobody on board was harmed.

Israel’s foreign ministry said several vessels had been “safely stopped,” later adding that their passengers were being transported to Israel “where their deportation procedures to Europe will begin.”

“Greta and her friends are safe and healthy,” the ministry earlier said on X, referring to Thunberg who can be seen sitting on the floor surrounded by military personnel in a video accompanying the social media post.

GSF called Israel’s interception of the boats “an illegal attack on unarmed humanitarians.”

International backlash against Israel’s actions was swift, with protesters flooding the streets in Italy and Turkey and foreign leaders voicing their outrage.

The interceptions come just days after US President Donald Trump unveiled his peace proposal to end the war in Gaza alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

Who is involved and what are their aims?

The flotilla comprises more than 500 participantsfrom dozens of countries aiming to deliver food, water and medicine to civilians in Gaza, according to the organizers.

The convoy set sail from Barcelona, Spain, on August 31 and has been bolstered by other activist ships from various Mediterranean ports as it moved closer to Gaza.

Among the participants are lawmakers from Spain and Italy, as well as Thunberg — who was deported from Israel in June after another Gaza-bound aid boat she was on was intercepted by Israel.

Nearly two years into Israel’s war in the enclave, Gaza has been gripped by escalating death and hunger as Israel blocks much-needed aid from reaching Palestinians. In August, the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification reported parts of Gaza are experiencing a “man-made” famine.

James Smith, a British doctor who has previously been on the flotilla, said he joined to protest “Israel’s illegal siege and blockade of Gaza.

“The flotilla is carrying humanitarian aid, but it’s not simply humanitarian,” Smith told CNN’s Lynda Kinkade.

“It is a form of direct action, it’s a form of anti-colonial resistance,” said Smith, who also worked at al-Aqsa hospital in Gaza for 2.5 months.

How has Israel responded to the flotilla?

Hours before the ships were intercepted Wednesday, Israel’s foreign ministry said its navy had contacted the flotilla and “asked them to change course.”

“Israel has informed the flotilla that it is approaching an active combat zone and violating a lawful naval blockade,” the ministry posted on X. The “sole purpose” of the flotilla was “provocation,” it claimed.

The ministry earlier said it has repeatedly offered alternative routes for the aid to enter Gaza, including a transfer via the port of Ashkelon in Israel.

However, the flotilla’s organizers had told CNN that they “will not be accepting the offer to give the aid to anyone other than the intended recipients, which are the civilians in Gaza.”

Last week, GSF said some of its vessels were targeted by Israeli drones, prompting Italy and Spain to deploy ships to help the flotilla.

The Israeli military did not respond to a CNN request for comment on the alleged drone attacks, but Israel’s foreign ministry has said that it has found documents in Gaza that “prove Hamas’s direct involvement” in the funding and execution of the flotilla. GSF dismissed these claims as “propaganda.”

What has the international response been?

Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered in Italy, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, and Argentina after the Israeli forces intercepted the vessels.

In Italy, protesters took to the streets in cities including Rome, Pisa, Florence and Turin Wednesday evening, while a major Italian labor union called for a national general strike on Friday, across public and private sectors, in solidarity with the flotilla and the people of Gaza.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum told reporters at her morning press conference on Thursday that six Mexican citizens were in Israeli custody after the flotilla interception. She added that Mexico had sent four diplomatic notes to Israel over the past three days requesting information about the safety of Mexicans aboard the flotilla.

“Obviously, we are against this situation,” Sheinbaum said. “Humanitarian aid must reach Gaza, and our Mexican compatriots – all of them, but especially our nationals – must be repatriated immediately because they have committed no crime.”

Turkey’s foreign ministry called the interception an “act of terrorism” as protests broke out in Istanbul.

Hamas called it a “treacherous assault and an act of piracy.”

Colombian President Gustavo Petro called the interception an “international crime” by Netanyahu, and said he would expel Israeli diplomats from his country.

Petro also cast doubt on Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, calling it “a peace plan with people already dead from starvation.”

After the interception, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot called on Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of the participants and “guarantee their right to consular protection.”

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said “the matter should end without damage,” providing no one “makes any mistakes.”

Tajani claimed Israel’s government had given its military clear instructions: “No acts of violence against the people aboard the flotilla.”

What has happened to previous aid flotillas?

Overseas activists have tried to deliver aid in the past to Gaza but have either been intercepted by Israeli forces or come under some form of attack.

Another Gaza-bound aid ship carrying Thunberg and other prominent activists, from the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, was intercepted by Israel in June, with the passengers detained and subsequently deported.

In May, activists on board an FCC ship said they were targeted by an Israeli drone in international waters off Malta.

The Israeli military did not deny involvement in the drone attack and an Israeli Air Force cargo plane was picked up on flight trackers circling the waters near Malta for an extended period of time before the claimed attack, according to flight-tracking website ADS-B Exchange.

In a previous deadly incident, Israeli forces attacked an aid flotilla in international waters in 2010, killing nine Turkish nationals and sparking outrage around the world. A tenth person died of wounds sustained in the attack in 2014, after spending four years in a coma.

OCTOBER 1, 2025DOCUMENT:Bizarre, Cops: Accused Vandal Confessed To ChatGPT

Collegian, 19, told AI program he "destroyed so many ppls cars"

OCTOBER 1–Minutes after vandalizing 17 cars in a Missouri college parking lot, a19-year-old sophomore had a lengthy ChatGPT conversation during which he confessed to the crime, asked about the possibility of getting caught, and wondered, “is there any way they could know it was me,” according to a police probable cause statement.

Ryan Schaefer was arrested yesterday and charged with felony property damage for a rampage early Sunday at a Missouri State University parking lot. Investigators allege that Schaefer shattered car windows, ripped off side mirrors, dented hoods, and broke windshield wipers during the 3 AM spree.

When confronted with surveillance footage and other evidence, Schaefer said that he could see the resemblance between the suspect and himself. At that point, Schaefer reportedly consented to a search of his iPhone.

A subsequent review of the device revealed location data placing Schaefer “at or near the scene of the crime,” as well as a “troubling dialogue exchange this defendant seems to have had with artificial intelligence software installed on his phone,” prosecutors reported.

The incriminating ChatGPT conversationfilled with typosopened with Schaefer asking, “How fucked am I” and “qilll I go to jail.” After the AI program “gave tips about the potential outcome of getting caught or being involved in this kind of behavior,” Schaefer typed, “What if I smashed the shit outta mutlipls cars.”

After beginning to “spiral,” cops say, Schaefer began to “become aggressive towards ChatGPT,” saying, “I will kill all u fi kers.” Upon returning to his Springfield apartment, Schaefer began “to wind down a bit” and declared,“i got away w it last year. And I don’t think theres any way they could know my face.” He added,“it felt rrlly nice to fucktheir dhit up.”

Acknowledging that he “fucked up all those useless fuckers cars,”Schaefer wrote that the victims “all dexerve to get raped and murdered.”

Seen above, Schaefer is locked up in lieu of $7500 bond at the Greene County jail. Upon his release from custody, Schaefer will be barred from any premise “where the primary item for sale is alcoholic beverages” and he will be required to comply with random testing for drugs or alcohol. The collegian will also have to be outfitted with a GPS electronic monitoring device. (4 pages.)
