The Chicago Police Department's Homan Square facility is a former Sears, Roebuck and Company warehouse on the city's West Side. The facility houses the department's Evidence and Recovered Property Section. In 2015, the facility gained worldwide notoriety when the American journalist Spencer Ackerman wrote a series of articles in The Guardian comparing it to a CIA black site.[1] After publication, some activists described it as a "secret torture site."[2]

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was barred from entering the Village of Broadview Municipal Building in Illinois to use the bathroom on Friday.
In a video posted on X by conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Noem said she was in the Chicago area to “do some operations to pick up some guys with criminal convictions” when she was denied access to the federal building by city police. A voice can be heard telling Noem and her colleagues, “No, you cannot!” after they asked to use the restroom.
“As much as these local leaders and governors talk about cooperating and having the backs of our law enforcement officers, this is what we have to put up with every single day,” she said. “And all we’re doing is getting criminals, and terrorists, and cartels, and gang members off the streets.”

In a subsequent post on X, Noem wrote that “this is how JB Pritzker and his cronies treat our law enforcement” and that their behavior is “absolutely shameful.” She also noted that the Village of Broadview “receives at least $1 million in federal funding every year.”
In early September, under the authority of President Donald Trump, ICE and DHS launched ‘Operation Midway Blitz,’ a federal immigration enforcement campaign by targeting so-called “criminal illegal aliens” across Chicago and Illinois. In addition, just last week, Trump began to send federalized troops to the Windy City.
Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) continued to strongly denounce both operations, accusing the Trump administration of overstepping authority and demanding on Friday that Noem be held publicly accountable.
