Georgia Condemns 'Coup Attempt' After Pro-EU Protesters Try To Storm Presidential Palace

Chaos has once again hit Georgia's streets, as a large group of demonstrators attempted to storm the presidential palace in the capital Saturday, at a moment of controversial municipal elections.

Georgia's ruling party Georgian Dream has gone so far as to describe unrest in the capital is an attempt to stage a coup in the country. "This is a direct attempt at a coup. They literally broke into the presidential palace," the ruling party's general secretary and Tbilisi Mayor, Kakha Kaladze, has said.

Opposition parties have charged Georgian Dream with being too close to Russia and running the country based on authoritarian rule, and so called for the mass boycott of the municipal elections.

Thousands of protesters were seen in Freedom Square and along the central Rustaveli Avenue. The flag of the European Union was being waved prominently alongside Georgian flags, which for ruling officials has raised the spectre of the influence of Western 'anti-Russian' NGO's.

Protesters had at one point set fires, blocked roads, and engaged in confrontations with police - resulting in riot control measures being deployed. Russian media says:

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze reiterated his claim that the protests were “organized by foreign intelligence agencies” to overthrow the government.

He vowed an “uncompromising” stance against lawbreakers, stating that “anyone who participates in operations ordered by foreign special services will be given a just punishment,” according to First Channel.

Federal Agents Ambushed in Chicago-Area in Coordinated Act of Domestic Terrorism; Armed Suspect Shot, Local Police Flee

Federal agents were ambushed and boxed in by ten vehicles during a routine patrol in Broadview, Chicago, in what officials are calling a coordinated act of domestic terrorism. One armed suspect—previously flagged for inciting violence against law enforcement online—was shot after ramming a patrol car and confronting officers with a semi-automatic weapon.

Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin reported that federal law enforcement officers and agents were boxed in and rammed by a group of ten vehicles in the Chicago-area suburb of Broadview. One of the women was armed with a semi-automatic firearm.

McLaughlin said the agents fired on the armed woman. She was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of her wounds.

Federal law enforcement officials were previously made aware of the woman after she threatened on social media, “Hey to all my gang let’s fuck those mother fuckers up, don’t let them take anyone.”

The secretary stated that the Chicago Police Department had fled the scene and refused to assist in securing the area. A crowd gathered, forcing ICE to deploy a special operations unit to maintain control.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called the organized attack on the ICE agents “domestic terrorism and seditious insurrection.

No federal agents were seriously injured in the attack, McLaughlin noted.

Mossad ‘in contact from very beginning’ with killers of Italian PM, reporter reveals

A roving reporter who covered Italy’s top politicians explains to The Grayzone how his country was reduced to a joint US-Israeli “aircraft carrier,” and raises troubling questions about an Israeli role in the killing of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro.

For years, Israel’s Mossad monitored and secretly influenced a violent communist faction that carried out the March 16, 1978 kidnapping and murder of Italian statesman Aldo Moro, veteran investigative journalist Eric Salerno has documented.

Having worked closely alongside multiple Italian heads of state during his 30-year career as a correspondent, Salerno published an expose of their secret relationship with Israeli intelligence in 2010 called Mossad Base Italy.

The reporter told The Grayzone that Moro, who was arguably Italy’s most important leader, became a thorn in the side of powerful forces who sought to keep his country firmly lodged in the pro-Western bloc. Salerno believes Italy’s long-term foreign policy would have developed differently if Moro had survived, adding, “that’s what they were afraid of in the United States.”

Moro was kidnapped in 1978 by the radical Brigate Rosse, or Red Brigades faction, in a daring and highly-professional daytime operation which left all five of his bodyguards dead. He was executed two months later. The still-unresolved case shocked the nation, and remains a deeply unsettling chapter in the period of intelligence intrigues and political terrorism known by Italians as The Years of Lead.

For some of Italy’s most knowledgeable sources, the crimes bore strong similarities to those of Operation Gladio, a covert effort which saw the CIA, MI6 and NATO train and direct a shadow army of fascist paramilitary units across Europe that carried out false flag terror attacks, robberies, and assassinations aimed at neutralizing the socialist left.

Moro, who belonged to the progressive wing of the Christian Democrat Party and served five terms as prime minister, threatened to upend the traditional postwar order in Italy by forging a “compromesso storico” (historic compromise) with the Italian Communist Party. “It was something that probably part of the Italian political establishment was afraid of, even in his own party,” Salerno notes.

US Jews split on Charlie Kirk

Two in five American Jews view conservative activist Charlie Kirk as a friend of US Jewry, while nearly a third see him as an opponent, alongside strong negativity toward the UN, rising criticism of Israel’s conduct in Gaza, and deep pessimism about the year ahead, according to the Jewish People Policy Institute’s latest Jewish People’s Voice Index released Sunday.

JPPI said the index asked US Jewish panelists how they perceive Kirk. “Two in five American Jews identified Kirk as a friend of US Jews,” while 29% viewed him as an opponent, 18% as neutral, and 16% did not know, the institute said in a statement.

The splits were stark by denomination and vote: 79% of Haredi Jews and 62% of Orthodox respondents called Kirk a friend, compared with 41% of Reform and 24% of Conservative Jews who considered him an opponent. “Eighty-six percent of Trump voters saw Kirk as a friend,” JPPI reported, while “only 12% of Harris voters thought so,” and nearly half of Harris voters (47%) labeled him an opponent.

Views of the United Nations were overwhelmingly negative. “Seventy-nine percent declared they hold a negative view of the UN,” JPPI said, including 61% “very negative” and 18% “somewhat negative.”

On campus boycotts, the institute found a broad consensus that such steps cross a line. The statement said there was “broad agreement of 70%” that allowing academic institutions to boycott Israel is “both anti-Israel and antisemitic,” a higher share than in a comparable survey in Israel.
