PORTLAND POLICE REFUSED TO HELP ICE AGENTS WHO CALLED 911, AGENTS SAY
The National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, a union representing ICE employees, wrote a cease-and-desist letter to Mayor Ted Wheeler, asking him to ensure the police enforce the law equally and protect innocent people.
“Your current policy forbidding Portland law enforcement agencies from assisting employees of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency who request law enforcement assistance while at or away from work is a violation of the United States Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause,” the letter says.

Top Senate Dem calls on DHS secretary to resign over family separations
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) on Tuesday called for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to resign over the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy, which resulted in the separation of migrant children from their parents at the southern border.
“It is and was a cruel policy inconsistent with the bedrock values of the nation,” Durbin said during an oversight hearing of the government’s efforts to reunite the families. “Someone in this administration has to accept responsibility.”

A Boston Globe investigation has revealed the existence of a domestic surveillance program run by the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, which has been shadowing U.S. citizens on planes and in airports since 2012.
Under the program, called
“Quiet Skies,”
federal air marshals collect information about U.S. travelers, including common behavior like using the bathroom repeatedly, sleeping on flights or sweating heavily.
In the wake of the Globe investigation, TSA officials have bowed to pressure from Congress and plan to meet with the House and Senate Homeland Security Committees.

“[Trump is] dividing us and what I've noticed over the last few months,” James told CNN before the official opening of his I Promise School in his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
“He's kinda used sport to kinda divide us, and that's something that I can't relate to because I know that sport was the first time I ever was around someone white and I got the opportunity to see them and learn about them and they got an opportunity to learn about me and we became very good friends.”

President Trump has privately agreed with congressional Republicans to delay the fight over funding for his border wall until after the November midterm elections, despite his public statements expressing a willingness to shut down the government over the issue, an administration official is telling The Wall Street Journal.
“The president sees merit in having this battle after the election,” the aide said.
In the last two days, Trump has twice threatened to shut down the government if Congress does not provide funding for the wall. Lawmakers face a Sept. 30 deadline to pass legislation funding the government.
Trump's public statements about a shutdown have rattled GOP lawmakers worried about a closure months before the midterm elections could hurt their party. Nothing in Trump's recent public comments would suggest he's interested in putting off the fight.
