African state uncovers ‘espionage network’

Burkina Faso’s government has detained the leaders of an NGO over claims of illicit intelligence gathering

Burkina Faso’s government has arrested eight workers for a Netherlands-based NGO on charges of spying. The operations of the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) had already been suspended for allegedly collecting sensitive data without authorization.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Security Minister Mahamadou Sana told reporters that the activities of the organization had been monitored for some time. According to him, thanks to the “contribution of citizens,” the authorities were able to determine that the NGO “constituted an espionage network in Burkina Faso.”

Sana stated that, despite the earlier suspension, “some officials continued to carry out clandestine or disguised activities such as gathering information and holding meetings in person or online.”

The eight arrested people comprise four foreign nationals – two French citizens, one Czech, and one Malian national – as well as four citizens of Burkina Faso. INSO had operated in the Sahel country since 2019 but was suspended on July 31 of this year.

Investigations reportedly found that the organization collected details on military convoy routes, Defense and Security Forces (SDF) positions and movements, GPS coordinates of contact zones with armed groups, as well as data on security incidents, attacks, casualties, and local events.

According to Burkina24, NGO country director Jean Christophe Emile Pegon and deputy director Aminata Marianne Guisse admitted during questioning that they had directed their teams to collect security-related information. However, INSO denied any wrongdoing, stating that “the information we collect is not confidential and is largely already known to the public.”

In neighboring Mali, two generals and a French national named Yann Vezilier were arrested in August over alleged involvement in a coup plot. France confirmed that Vezilier was an embassy employee but denied that he was involved in an alleged attempt to overthrow the West African country’s military government. Relations between Sahel states and Paris have deteriorated in recent years amid allegations that France is sponsoring terrorism in an attempt to undermine military regimes in the Sahel.

Obstruction of a Congressional Proceeding - under 18 U.S.C. § 1505, for allegedly making misleading statements that impeded the Senate Judiciary Committee’s investigation.

Not to worry, Democrats - the FBI promises not to wrinkle Comey's suit with a perp walk - the kind Comey subjected multiple members of Trump's first team to… According to Fox News, Director Kash Patel and Deputy AG Todd Blanche insist that reports of a camera-ready Comey arrest are nothing more than a distraction.

"Mr. Comey has been directed to appear, and I expect that he will. But the noise from MSNBC and from retired agents or unnamed anonymous sources about perp walks is just that," Blanche told the outlet , adding "It's just noise."

Some 750,000 Palestinian, three-quarters of the population, fled because of the terror campaign unleashed by the Israelis.

A month after Deir Yassin, Israeli forces slaughtered up to 200 Palestinians in the coastal village of Tantura. It was part of a ruthless ethnic cleansing campaign – Plan Dalet – to seize territory for a future Jewish state. Tantura was one of 64 Palestinian villages lining the road between Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Once thriving coastal communities, all were wiped off the map – except two. The inhabitants were expelled en masse, joining the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians ethnically cleansed from their ancestral lands in 1948.

The individuals, linked to the so-called Clan del Golfo, are believed to have directed multi-tonne cocaine imports from South America to Europe

Between 1 and 2 October, the Colombian Police (Policia Nacional de Colombia) and the Spanish Guardia Civil, supported by Europol, targeted four key suspects, linked to the so-called Clan del Golfo, allegedly responsible for whole-sale cocaine trafficking operations from South America to Europe. In particular, the criminal network oversaw first-hand the production, transportation and distribution of cocaine throughout the entire logistics chains. To support field activities on the action day, Europol deployed two experts to Colombia and Spain.

This investigation is based on information retrieved from the Sky ECC encrypted communications platform. For a first time Colombia has used Sky ECC data in a judicial proceeding. As a result, data obtained from Sky ECC led to the launch of a judicial case, judicial cooperation, and ultimately the issuing of arrests warrants and seizures.
