Kiev not inclined toward peace – Kremlin

Ukraine falsely believes it can reverse the situation on the battlefield, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said

Kiev apparently has no interest in a peaceful resolution of the conflict with Russia, believing it can still reverse the situation on the battlefield, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.Russian forces have consistently pushed back Ukrainian troops and steadily gained ground over the past several months.

Speaking to journalists in Dushanbe, Tajikistan on Thursday, Peskov saidUkraine’s decision-making process is dictated by the false hopethat “something will change on the front lines and shift to a positive dynamic.”

“The Kiev regime, clearly inspired by the Europeans, is currently not at all inclined toward any kind of peace process,” Peskov said.

Moscow has accused the Ukrainian government of stalling peace talks and showing no genuine interest in ending the conflict. Last month, Peskov said that despite the sides agreeing in Istanbul to establish working groups to explore a potential peace deal, the Ukrainian side has unilaterally suspended all dialogue.

He added thatKiev’s public communication strategy is apparently focused on producing ever-shifting proposalswhile disregarding Russia’s practical suggestions for negotiations.

Ukrainian officials continued to say they intend to regain all of the country’s former territories.Numerous military experts, however, have saidthese ambitions are unrealistic without the direct involvement of NATO.

Ukraine’s top commander, Aleksandr Syrsky, hasacknowledged that Russian forces outmatch Ukraine in both manpower and equipment. He described August as “a month of great trials,”acknowledging that Russia prevailed in all key areas.

In late August, Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov saidthe “strategic initiative” now rests “entirely with the Russian troops,” while Ukraine is forced to move its most combat-ready units “from one crisis direction to another to plug holes.”

(When Zelensky said they would fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian, he wasn’t kidding and the EU is good with that! When this overthey all should be charged at the ICC for genocide= in the Ukraine territory, it’s not an actual State of the EU, they cannot legally get Ukraine in the EU. They all know this!==)

NATO eyeing ‘forceful’ response to Russia – FT

Member states are considering easing rules of air engagement and deploying drones along Russia’s borders, the paper’s sources claim

NATO is considering allowing its pilots fire at unauthorized Russian aircraft, and drastically increasing its military footprint on the Russia’s borders, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing sources.

The report comes following weeks of Western claims that Russia has repeatedly violated EU airspace, which Moscow has denied.

Last month, Estonia and Poland claimed that Russian aircraft illegally entered their airspace. Western media has also speculated that Russia may be behind drone incidents in other EU nations, which at times disrupted air traffic. Moscow has said the West has not provided any evidence for the claims.

Several NATO members are now debating “a more forceful response” to Russia, according to the Financial Times.

The reported proposals include arming surveillance drones that currently gather intelligence on Russian military movementsand lowering thethreshold for fighter pilots on NATO’s eastern borderto take down perceived threats. Other options under discussion involve conducting military exercises directly along the Russian border, the report said.

Two NATO officials told the FT thatone urgent task is to simplify the rules of engagement, which now differ among member states. Some nations require pilots to visually identify targets before firing, while others permit engagement based on radar data or the perceived direction and speed of an approaching aircraft.

FT sources noted that the talks, initiated by states bordering Russia and backed by France and the UK, later developed into a bloc-wide discussion – which, however, is said to be in the early stages. Some governments reportedly advocate for strong deterrence policies, though others urge restraint to avoid direct confrontation.

The article comes on the heels of last week’s EU summit on creating a ‘drone wall’ to deter alleged Russian incursions, with Politico reporting that the meeting “descended into a familiar stalemate.”

Russia has accused NATO of escalating tensions near its borders through expanded military deployments and exercises. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has also stated that NATO is “de facto at war” with Russia due to the bloc’s support for Ukraine.

(The EU and NATO this will be WWIII, and if do what they plan, it will be planet wide with Russia against NATO, there is no turning back from there. It’s time for Trump to get back in the negotiations. Otherwise the U.S. will be dragged into it since NATO is planning this. If Trump can end this war, he should get two Nobel Peace Prizes. But the EU doesn’t want the honor going to Trump.)

Zelensky threatens Russian regions with blackouts

The Ukrainian leader claims attacking Belgorod and Kursk is a “fair” response to strikes on Kiev

Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky has threatened Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions with blackouts if large-scale power outages continue in Ukraine. Strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure originate largely from these two regions and vowed what he called “fair”retaliation, he has said.

Moscow maintains that its drone and missile strikes across Ukraine are carried out in response to Kiev’s attacks on energy infrastructure and residential areas inside Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry has said it targets only sites linked to Ukraine’s military industry – including energy facilities – and does not strike civilian or non-military infrastructure.

“One of the most intense areas from which attacks on Ukraine are launched is the Belgorod direction,” Zelensky said at a Wednesday press briefing. “Maybe those in Belgorod should no longer feel comfortable if they act this way. That would be entirely fair. If they want to cause blackouts for us, we will do the same… for the Belgorod and Kursk regions.” Russian civilians are not targets, he added.

Ukrainian forces have regularly targeted civilian infrastructure in Russia. Three people, including a ten-year-old boy, were injured in Ukrainian drone attacks in Belgorod over three days, where strikes also caused a blackout that left nearly 40,000 residents without power.

On Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed a large-scale strike on “Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and the energy infrastructure supporting their operations.”Ukraine’s Energy Ministry later said the attack caused blackouts in several regions, including Sumy, Kharkov, Odessa, and Lviv.

Moscow began regularly striking Ukraine’s energy grid and gas production sites after Kiev bombed the Crimean Bridge in October 2022, killing four people.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the time that the army was targeting energy infrastructure. He later vowed that Moscow would not tolerate attacks on its energy facilities and would continue to respond in kind. According to Ukrainian authorities, more than half of the country’s generating capacity has been lost due to Russian strikes.

Russia backs Trump’s Gaza peace plan

The proposal is the best option currently on the table, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said

The plan for peace in Gazaproposed by US President Donald Trump is currently the best option to stop the bloodshed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

The 20-point plan, released by the White House last month, calls for an immediate ceasefire and the exchange of all hostages held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners in Israel. It also envisions turning Gaza into a “deradicalized, terror-free zone” after the withdrawal of Israeli forces, with Hamas excluded from governing the enclave.

According to Lavrov, the proposal is not ideal since it essentially sidesteps the issue of Palestinian statehood, which remains at the heart of the conflict, and only focuses on Gaza.

“We are realists. We understand that it is the best [option] that is currently on the table,” he said in an excerpt from an interview published by the Foreign Ministry on Wednesday. The plan looks like a sensible compromise that could be accepted or at least not outright rejected by all sides, Lavrov believes.

“The plan is realistic if the Palestinians accept it,” Lavrov stated, adding thatMoscow “wishes luck” to the Turkish, Egyptian, Qatari, US and Israeli negotiatorscurrently engaged in talks over the issue.

Russia is ready to provide any assistance in the process that is necessary, the minister said, adding that Moscow could also help create a Palestinian state. “The most important thing now is to stop the bloodshed. In that sense, Trump’s plan gives hope.”

The plan has been backed by the Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank.It welcomed Trump’s “sincere and determined efforts” to achieve peace in Gaza, arguing that partnership with the US is essential for stability in the region.

Israel reportedly halted the ground operation that it launched in Gaza Сity last month after the plan was released. West Jerusalem and Hamas are also preparing to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners as part of the US-backed peace efforts, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

(The most relieving thing for Russia and other countries is that Trump is handling Bibi, no one else would be able to do it. Did Trump go through the Iran bombing to trap Bibi to stop the war in Israel. Was it a trade off?)

America's top banker sounds warning on US stock market fall

17 hours ago1/2

Watch: 'I'm more worried than others about stock market fall', says JP Morgan boss

There is a higher risk of a serious fall in US stocks than is currently being reflected in the market, the head of JP Morgan has told the BBC.

Jamie Dimon, who leads America's largest bank, said he was "far more worried than others" about a serious market correction, which he said could come in the next six months to two years.

In a rare and wide-ranging interview, the bank boss also said that the US had become a "less reliable" partner on the world stage.

He cautioned he was still "a little worried" about inflation in the US, but insisted he thought the Federal Reserve would remain independent, despite repeated attacks by the Trump administration on its chair Jerome Powell.

Jamie Dimon was in Bournemouth, where he was announcing an investment of about £350m in JP Morgan's campus there, as well as a £3.5m philanthropic investment in local non-profits.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the investment was "fantastic news for the local economy and people who live" in Dorset.

Ahead of the interview, Dimon appeared before a town hall on the campus - cutting a figure more akin to an off-duty rock star than a bank CEO - wearing an open-collar shirt and jeans, and high-fiving staff on his way to the stage.

Opening with his take on the UK's economy, Dimon said he felt Rachel Reeves was doing a "terrific job", and he felt optimistic about some of the government's attempts to boost innovation and cut regulation.

However, on the broader economic picture,he felt there were increased risks US stock markets were overheated.

"I am far more worried about that than others," he said.

There were a "lot of things out there" creating an atmosphere of uncertainty, he added, pointing to risk factors like the geopolitical environment, fiscal spending and the remilitarisation of the world.

"All these things cause a lot of issues that we don't know how to answer," he said.

"So I say the level of uncertainty should be higher in most people's minds than what I would call normal."

Much of the rapid growth in the stock market in recent years has been driven by investment in AI.

On Wednesday, the Bank of England drew a comparison with the dotcom boom (and subsequent bust) of the late 1990s- and warned that the value of AI tech companies "appear stretched" with a rising risk of a "sharp correction". (So they are planning a crash like the last one)

"The way I look at it is AI is real, AI in total will pay off," he said.

"Just like cars in total paid off, and TVs in total paid off, but most people involved in them didn't do well."

He added some of the money being invested in AI would "probably be lost".

Bullets, guns and bombs

Global security has been a recent focus for the JP Morgan boss, with his letter to shareholders earlier this year warning the US would run out of missiles in seven days of a South China Sea war.

Reflecting on how the world could combat risk factors,he pointed to greater military investment.

"People talk about stockpiling things like crypto, I always say we should be stockpiling bullets, guns and bombs.

"The world's a much more dangerous place, and I'd rather have safety than not."

Another risk factor which many in the global economy believe the US could be facing is pressure placed on the independence of the Federal Reserve, America's central bank.

On this, he said he thought central bank independence was important - but was willing to take Trump "at his word" that he would not interfere in Fed independence, despite the president describing current Fed chair Jerome Powell as a "moron" and a "numbskull" for failing to lower interest rates more quickly.

Dimon acknowledged the US had become a "little less reliable" but said that some of the Trump administration's action had pushed Europe to act over underinvestment in Nato and its lack of economic competitiveness.

Dimon also shared insights into a potential breakthrough in trade negotiations between India and the US.

He said he wanted to "bring India closer" and he believed a deal was close to reduce additional tariffs on India, which were imposed as a penalty for its continued trade with Russia, particularly its oil purchases.

"In fact, I've spoken to several of the Trump officials who say they want to do that, and I've been told that they are going to do that."

Jamie Dimon's name has been frequently mentioned among the big financial players capable of making a transition into politics.

Ahead of Trump's re-election last year, influential investor Bill Ackman said he would be an "incredible choice" as treasury secretary, and he has also been the subject of speculation about a potential presidential run.

Asked about his political ambitions, Dimon said it "wasn't on the cards", and his focus was on keeping JP Morgan as a "healthy and vibrant company".

Although he added with a laugh, "If you gave me the presidency, I'd take it. I think I'd do a good job."(No and Never!)

IRS unveils higher capital gains tax brackets for 2026

PUBLISHED THU, OCT 9 202510:32 AM EDTUPDATED AN HOUR-KATE DORE, CFP®,

The IRS has unveiled higher capital gains tax brackets for 2026.

In its announcement on Thursday, the agency boosted the taxable income limits for the long-term capital gains brackets, which apply to assets owned for more than one year.

It also increased figures for dozens of other provisions, including federal income tax brackets, the estate and gift tax exemption and eligibility for the earned income tax credit, among others.

The IRS announcements come a day after the agency said it would furlough nearly half its workforce due to the ongoing government shutdown.

The capital gains rate you pay is based on which bracket you fall into based on taxable income.

You calculate taxable income by subtracting the greater of the standard or itemized deductions from your adjusted gross income. For 2026, the standard deduction will rise to $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly.

Starting in 2026, single filers will qualify for the 0% long-term capital gains rate with taxable income of $49,450 or less and married couples filing jointly are eligible with $98,900 or less.

The staggering extent of Elon Musk's land grab in Southern state revealed

22:49 EDT 08 Oct 2025

Elon Musk's Texas real estate empire is far more extensive than previously believed.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss confirmed his movefrom California to Texas in 2020.

However, it was not clear until now the staggering extent to which the richest man in the world has expanded in the Lone Star State.

Musk's companies own more than 500 properties covering 6,000 acres in Texas. His expansive network of factories, tunnels, and launch pads spreads from the top to the bottom.

'He's going all in on Texas,' Goran Calic, a strategy professor at McMaster University in Canadawho spent years studying Musk's management style, told the Houston Chronicle.

'And the reason he's doing it is because of control. Elon Musk has more control in Texas than he does anywhere else.'=

The star of his Lone Star State takeover is Tesla's 2,500-acre factory complex, located in Austin.

Since Musk opened Austin's Giga Texas in 2022, the complex has ballooned to over ten million square feet of production space — and could double if plans for a wave of buildings move forward.

The factory cranks out Teslas — including Model Ys and the Cybertruck — which are shuttled through a tunnel beneath Texas.

Musk's Boring Company — an infrastructure and tunnel construction services company found in 2016 — is headquartered in Bastrop, about 20 miles east of Austin.

The startup has carved out more than 350 acres for testing giant machines, and houses staff in a makeshift village called Snailbrook.

In 2023, residents living nearby the development said the building work was affecting livestock and accused crews of dumping untreated wastewater into the Colorado River.

Boring generally denied the allegations but was fined more than $9,000 and was required to make changes at the site, according to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Across the road is a 700,000-square-foot SpaceX facility — a Starlink factory — that turns out 70,000 satellite kits a week, with plans to double in size.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott moved the deal along earlier this year with a $17.3 million grant for a $280 million SpaceX expansion.

Musk has also commandeered more land further south near Brownsville.

The chief executive converted scrubland in the area to make way for Starbase, a de facto company town of 500 residents and thousands of workers.

Musk is pushing to further expand the Starship launchpad and add housing, retail and a grocery store to Starbasse.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський@ZelenskyyUa

==The cooperation with the United States continues. A team led by Prime Minister @Svyrydenko_Y, together with Head of the Office @AndriyYermak and my Commissioner on sanctions policy

@VladVlas will be in the U.S. at the beginning of next week. Topics include air defense, energy, and sanctions steps, as well as the negotiation track. The issue of frozen assets will also be discussed with the U.S.

Preparations are also underway to continue the work of the Coalition of the Willing. We will prepare our corresponding actions, meetings, and results for October–November.

I believe President Trump wants us at the negotiating table, and we supported this track. I think he very much wants to see a ceasefire and an end to the war. I believe this was his goal from the very beginning. We are grateful for that. I believe our meeting, combined with the actual facts, has given him a broader understanding that the Russians are “selling” him something they are not capable of delivering. What’s particularly important is that following our meeting, a dialogue is continuing at various levels. And by the way, everyone notes that despite the cold weather outside, our relations remain warm at various levels.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy / Володимир Зеленський

@ZelenskyyUa

It is important that the prospect of establishing lasting peace in the Middle East is drawing closer to being realized. This matters not only for that one region, but for the whole world. An agreement is moving forward that could help everyone. If violence and war are halted in one part of the world, global security increases for all.

We are grateful to President Trump

@POTUS

and the United States for their leadership, and to every country and leader who are helping. We hope that the Israeli hostages, held for more than two years, will be released, and there will be no more victims in Gaza. And we hope that global efforts will likewise be sufficient to achieve real peace for our country, in our region.

Russia remains the largest source of war and terror in the world today, and we expect just and firm international pressure on this aggressor to bring about lasting peace and guaranteed security.

Saudi heir’s private jet rant on welfare cuts sparks outrage

Oct 8, 2025, 9:03am EDT

Overdrive Racing’s Yazeed Al Rajhi.

Yazeed Al Rajhi. Maxim

A luxury private jet is no place to lecture about welfare cuts. Yazeed Al Rajhi — rally driver, cafe chain owner, and most importantly, scion of one of Saudi Arabia’s wealthiest families — found this out the hard way this week. His 10-minute jet rant sparked outrage for telling Saudis that they must “accept the decisions or mistakes made by officials as they are working to serve the nation and your wellbeing.”

His comments came after his cousin, Human Resources Minister Ahmad Al Rajhi, suspended parts of the social security program (largely for the elderly, disabled, and widows).

Yazeed’s father, the late Sulaiman Al Rajhi, had an estimated worth of $2.1 billion in 2015 after giving away most of his fortune to charity. That goodwill, which carried considerable weight in Saudi society, didn’t temper the public reaction to the son’s comments: Saudis are calling for a boycott of Rajhi’s Half Million cafe chain — Saudi’s most popular — and his other businesses.
