Well the Bible says it all the answers are there. A council of Jewish elders had him killed, pushing Pilate to do so. The hebrews who were following him didn’t want him killed.
It was not ‘the Jews’ (Muh joos) but a small council of powerful Jews at the top of Jewish society.
