California Rejects CDC, Gives Vaccine Authority to California Department of Public Health. Hawaii, Oregon and Washington Follow Suit

Robert F Kennedy Jr has made some changes to vaccine recommendations and the CDC childhood vaccine schedule that is required in nearly all states in order for children to attend school. In response, California lawmakers quietly gutted budget bill AB144 on the last day of session and slipped in sweeping changes to vaccine rules and parental rights. The law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom bypassed the legislative process, hands vaccine decision-making power to the California Department of Public Health, revives HPV vaccine recommendations, expands liability protections to those who administer vaccines required by the state, and sidelines future Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and CDC recommendations.

California has enacted a new law to base the state’s immunization guidance on independent medical organizations, rather than the CDC. Four Western US states, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, have come together to issue unified vaccine recommendations. The four states, all led by Democratic governors, created the West Coast Health Alliance (WCHA) following an erosion of trust in the CDC. A spokesperson for the US Department of Health and Human Services blasted the West Coast states’ plans for a health alliance, criticizing bad COVID-era policies in “Democrat-run states.”

Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass React to Arrest of Palisades Fire Suspect Jonathan Rinderknecht

Jonathan Rinderknecht, a former Los Angeles resident, has been arrested in Florida and charged with starting one of the most devastating wildfires in city history – a blaze that ripped through Pacific Palisades in January 2025, killing a dozen residents and reducing multimillion-dollar homes to ash. He was charged with destruction of property by means of fire, a federal felony that carries a mandatory minimum of five years and up to 20 years behind bars if convicted. Many are upset over the minimal charge.

According to a federal affidavit, the inferno traces back to an earlier blaze – the Lachman Fire – that broke out just after midnight on New Year’s Day 2025 near Skull Rock Trailhead. Rinderknecht was an Uber driver who was reported to be “agitated and angry” when he picked up passengers on New Year’s Eve. Cellphone data and surveillance footage place him at the scene as the initial fire ignited.

Critics have pointed out that there has been zero accountability for the authorities who contributed to the inferno like Gavin Newsom opposed proper dry forest management and slashed state funding for wildfire and forest resilience by $101 million in the 2024-2025 state budget. He has been accused of making a land grab as he allocated $101 million for low income apartments in the Palisades.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass cut $17.6 million from the city’s fire department budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year and was seeking an additional $49 million cut in order to give more money to the homeless. Many fire engines and other essential equipment were in need of maintenance and were not available. The reservoir that was empty still has no water! And new fire stations need to be built.

Slovakia Defies EU, Amends Constitution to Protect Sovereignty

In a victory for national sovereignty, Slovakia has passed a constitutional amendment protecting national sovereignty “in matters of national identity,” effectively overriding the European Union and international law. The new amendment asserts sovereignty over national identity and sovereignty over decision-making on related matters in the areas of healthcare, science, upbringing, education, personal status and inheritance. It recognizes only two genders. Prime Minister Robert Fico described it as a “dam against progressivism.”

The European Commission, the European Union’s executive branch, claimed that “EU law takes precedence over national law, including national constitutional provisions.” The BBC reported, that “enshrining the primacy of the Slovak constitution over EU law is a direct challenge to the European Union, and will lead to legal battles and potentially sanctions.”

European nations should take immediate action to counter the EU. Slovakia’s constitutional amendment is a good start.

US Justice Department opens inquiry into First Brands collapse, source says

Oct 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an inquiry into the collapse of bankrupt auto parts maker First Brands Group, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters on Thursday.

The Justice Department is probing the company and its dealings with creditors, and has sent an inquiry to First Brands, the person said.

The probe is at an early stage, the source said, adding that it is common for U.S. prosecutors to look into companies that publicly disclose losses that affect a large group of investors.

No evidence of wrongdoing has been established so far, the source added.

There is no guarantee that the inquiry will result in a full-blown investigation that will lead to charges being filed against the company.

The Financial Times was first to report earlier on Thursday that the DOJ was probing First Brands.

First Brands, which makes filters, brakes and lighting systems for the automotive industry, filed for bankruptcy protection last month after its lenders began investigating irregularities in the company's financial reporting. The company has $11.6 billion in total liabilities, according to court documents.

Trump administration buying Chicago property for more ICE operations, Noem says

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told President Donald Trump “we’re gonna be in more parts of Chicago” to expand ICE operations.

President Donald Trump’s administration is buying more property in Chicago to carry out immigration enforcement, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Thursday.

The unspecified real estate effort could potentially expand the federal government’s footprint beyond the suburban Broadview facility that has become the focal point of local protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

“We’re purchasing more buildings in Chicago to operate out of,” Noem told Trump during an open Cabinet meeting. “We’re gonna not back off. In fact, we’re doubling down and we’re gonna be in more parts of Chicago in response to the people there.”

Encounters between federal agents and protesters in Broadview occasionally have grown hostile over the past month, with masked officers often escalating tense physical confrontations with civilians trying to disrupt the agency’s enhanced deportation operation.

National Guard troops federalized by Trump have been assigned to Broadview to protect ICE agents, though protests largely have been peaceful, with only dozens in attendance over the past few days.

Conservative social media influencers who have been granted access to the deportation campaign shared videos last week of Noem and other officials scouting vacant warehouses around Chicago as potential ICE processing centers. It’s not clear where the feds are looking to expand.
