Chopper rear rotor wasn't working and likely pilot knew this and was attempting to bring it in slowly. The upward pressure from the objects beneath the chopper (palm trees in this case) off the starboard side caused an uneven balance in main rotor causing the spin. Not an easy scenario to land. Difficult to navigate once rear rotor is gone but in a perfect scenario over flat land you would descend quickly the last 20-30 feet to avoid the instant upward pressure that causes the spin.
