Russian hypermarket destroyed in Ukrainian drone attack

12 Oct, 2025 03:18

A hypermarket in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) was struck by a Ukrainian drone and burned to the ground on Saturday night, local authorities have reported. An earlier attack on the Russian region left four civilians injured.

According to the DPR’s Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC), the Sigma hypermarket, a former Auchan located along the Slaviansk–Donetsk–Mariupol highway, was hit at around 10:24pm local time, sparking a massive blaze that engulfed the structure.

Officials said the fire spread rapidly throughout the building, leading to the collapse of the roof and internal framework. The hypermarket was described as “almost entirely burned down.”

Emergency crews were dispatched to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby facilities.

No casualties were reported at the site, the JCCC said.

North Korea shows off giant new ICBM

11 Oct, 2025 13:57

The Hwasong-20 intercontinental ballistic missile, which is potentially capable of reaching the continental US, debuted at a military parade in Pyongyang

North Korea unveiled its latest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during a military parade on Friday.

Presided over by leader Kim Jong-un, the event, marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country’s ruling Workers’ Party, showcased North Korea’s newest weapons systems, including military drones, tanks with advanced electronic warfare gear, and hypersonic missiles.

However, the centerpiece of the event was the debut of the Hwasong-20, described by state media as North Korea’s “most powerful nuclear strategic weapon system” to date and potentially capable of reaching as far as the continental US. During the ceremony, the massive missile was mounted on an 11-axle transporter-launch vehicle.

The existence of the Hwasong-20 was revealed only last month when North Korea tested a new solid-fuel rocket engine it said was intended for its next generation of ICBMs.

Solid-fueled rockets can be transported and launched more quickly than their liquid-fueled counterparts, making them harder to intercept. State media said the carbon-fiber-built engine is more powerful than any previous North Korean design.

Little is known about the Hwasong-20’s specifications, and Pyongyang has not yet announced a test launch. Experts believe it may be capable of carrying multiple nuclear warheads – a goal Kim has repeatedly urged the military to pursue.

North Korea calls its pursuit of advanced arms a response to ongoing Western military threats, particularly from the US. Pyongyang views Washington’s presence in South Korea and the joint drills the two countries hold as aggressive in nature.

It believes its nuclear and missile programs are essential deterrents against foreign interference, insisting the arsenal is purely defensive and meant to protect national sovereignty.

US guiding Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy – FT

12 Oct, 2025 14:22

The US has been assisting Kiev in carrying out drone attacks on energy facilities inside Russia for the past several months, the Financial Times has reported, citing unnamed American and Ukrainian officials.

US officials previously made no secret of their data-sharing with Kiev, but never confirmed their involvement in targeting Russia’s energy assets.

When asked earlier in October about Washington’s possible role in Kiev’s strikes deep into Russian territory, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it was “obvious” to Moscow that “all of NATO and US infrastructure is being used to collect and pass on intelligence to the Ukrainian side.”

The FT said in an article on Sunday that Washington started sharing this data after a call between US President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelensky in mid-July, in which Trump reportedly asked his interlocutor if Kiev could strike Moscow with American-supplied long-range weapons.

The White House later claimed that Trump was “merely asking a question, not encouraging further killing.”

According to the sources, the US intelligence is being used by Ukraine to plan the routes and the altitudes for its drones to travel and to choose the best timing for the attacks.

The unnamed officials claimed the Americans have also been setting target priorities for Kiev. However, one of the sources claimed the Ukrainians selected the sites themselves and were then provided data by the US.

Washington sees the Ukrainian strikes on the energy facilities as an “instrument” to harm Russia’s economy and push it towards a diplomatic settlement of the conflict, one of the officials told FT.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in early September that Moscow has been tolerating Ukrainian attacks against civilian infrastructure inside Russia “for too long” and that it will not be doing so anymore.

The intensification of Russian missile and drone raids on Ukraine in recent weeks has led to large-scale blackouts in the capital Kiev and other cities.

Earlier this week, Putin stressed that there is understanding in both Moscow and Washington about what direction to move in to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

However, he noted that several “complicated issues” still need to be resolved to reach that goal.

Russian drone strike hits power plant near Kyiv, injures two workers

Sun, October 12, 2025 - 14:32

The Russian army struck a power substation in Kyiv region. Two energy workers were injured, workers, according to the Kyiv Regional Military Administration.

"As a result of the enemy attack on one of the substations in the Boryspil district, two DTEK employees were injured. They have been taken to a local hospital," the administration said.

Preliminary reports indicate that one worker sustained shrapnel wounds to the head, chest, arm, and legs, while the other suffered an ear injury and abrasions. Both were hospitalized and are receiving medical care.

DTEK said the team came under attack after the air raid alert had been lifted. The strike was carried out with a Shahed drone.

"Two of our colleagues were injured. We are providing them with all necessary medical and psychological support," DTEK stated.

Shelling on October 12

Recall that due to Russian attacks, Donetsk region was completely left without electricity, as the enemy targeted energy infrastructure facilities in the region.

Meanwhile, restoration work continues in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi after last night’s Russian drone strike, which damaged critical infrastructure.

It is also worth noting that this morning, new groups of Russian drones were launched. Air raid alerts were issued in several northern regions, as well as twice in Kyiv.

Monitoring channels reported explosions in the Boryspil district, and later information about power outages also spread online.

Russian missile plant damaged in drone attack

Oct 12, 2025

Ukrainian long-range strike drones hit targets overnight at the Smolensk Aircraft Plant (SmAZ), Russia’s major producer of air-launched precision-guided munitions.

According to Ukrainian defense sources, the attack was carried out by long-range unmanned aerial vehicles operated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

The strike reportedly targeted facilities within the Smolensk Aircraft Plant complex, which is operated by the Tactical Missiles Corporation, disrupting operations linked to the assembly of several Russian air-launched missile types.

SmAZ, located in the city of Smolensk, plays a central role in the manufacturing and assembly of components for Russia’s Kh-101 cruise missile, as well as for the Kh-59M2 (and its upgraded M2A variant) and the Kh-58UShK anti-radiation missile.

These weapons are among the primary precision-guided systems used by the Russian Air Force in its ongoing attacks against Ukraine.

The Kh-101, in particular, is Russia’s long-range, air-launched cruise missile capable of carrying either a conventional or nuclear warhead, with a range of over 2,000 kilometers.

The missile has been a mainstay of Russian strategic aviation strikes throughout the war, frequently launched from Tu-95MS and Tu-160 bombers operating from airfields deep within Russian territory.

The Kh-59M2 and Kh-59M2A are tactical air-to-surface missiles designed for precision strikes against fortified targets, while the Kh-58UShK is used to suppress enemy air defenses by homing in on radar emissions.

The Smolensk plant is understood to handle the production and assembly of airframe sections and integration of guidance systems for these munitions.

Ukrainian officials have not disclosed operational details of the strike, including the number or type of drones used, but emphasized that the target selection focused on industrial sites directly supporting Russia’s missile production network.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have repeatedly stated that such strikes are aimed at degrading Russia’s ability to sustain its missile campaign and are conducted within the framework of defensive operations.

Zelensky Under Fire Over Disbandment of Drone Unit and Corruption Allegations

13:46 12-10-2025

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky personally approved the disbandment of the drone unit of the 10th Mobile Border Guard Detachment, according to claims made by its commander, Yuri Kasyanov.

He said the decision followed his testimony to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), where he accused both Zelensky and the Ukrainian defense contractor Fire Point of corruption.

On 3 October, Kasyanov publicly announced the disbandment of his unit, emphasizing that the order came directly from the Office of the President.

Known for his outspoken criticism of Ukraine’s political and military leadership, he has repeatedly accused senior officials of misconduct.

Members of the disbanded unit later stated that the move was retaliation for their public criticism of top Ukrainian officials. Following the decision, the drone specialists were reassigned to infantry units.

However, Andrey Demchenko, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian Border Guard Service, claimed the disbandment was due to the unit’s poor performance, not political pressure.

Kasyanov described himself as a key whistleblower in a corruption case involving Fire Point — the company that produces Flamingo missiles and is reportedly linked to businessman Timur Mindich, a partner of Zelensky.

He stressed that the president’s name was mentioned in his testimony. Kasyanov also appealed to NABU to place him and his family under witness protection.

The officer is currently being held at a transit facility in Rovno Region. He sharply criticized the conditions of his detention, saying he was housed with conscripts, not allowed to leave, and guarded as if he were a deserter.

He claimed his health is deteriorating and accused the head of the Ukrainian Border Guard Service, Sergey Deineko, of putting his life at risk.

IDF declares victory: Chief of Staff Zamir says military pressure defeated Hamas

Updated: OCTOBER 12, 2025 19:53

IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir declared victory over Hamas after over two years of war in a Sunday address.

“The military pressure we have exerted over the past two years, together with the complementary political move, constitutes a victory over Hamas,” Zamir said.

Zamir also promised that the military would ensure that "the Gaza Strip will not constitute a threat again to the State of Israel."

Zamir said that anytime Hamas raised its head, the IDF would be there to prevent it from reestablishing itself as a threat to the Jewish state.

He said that the IDF's "actions would speak for themselves."

IDF chief says military pressure defeated Hamas

The IDF chief said nothing directly about disarming Hamas, focusing instead on returning the Israeli hostages from the captivity of Hamas, on the IDF's partial withdrawal from Gaza, and on the general presumption that the military had learned lessons from October 7, 2023, in order to keep Israel safe from Hamas in the future.

This is how the return of the living hostages will take place

October 12, 2025 07:21

“This is a day of tension, anticipation, hope, great pain and joy”:

The Coordinator for the Hostages and Missing Persons, Gal Hirsch, and his team have completed preparations to receive the 20 living hostages who will be released from Hamas captivity — 737 days after the October 7 massacre.

This is how the dramatic hours are expected to unfold, during which the first phase of the agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the war will be completed:

“We already completed on Friday night our preparations and the IDF’s preparations on the ‘yellow line’ (the first withdrawal line from the Gaza Strip ).

We are at full readiness,” Hirsch said. For now, the release of the living hostages is supposed to begin on Monday morning, but Israel is prepared for the possibility that the move could be brought forward.

“A number of preparatory actions were carried out by our forces in various aspects both vis-à-vis the Red Cross and more broadly by the IDF in case a move forward is required or for additional actions,” Hirsch said.

The Prime Minister’s Office updated that the hostages’ release will indeed begin at 2:00 a.m. on Monday morning.

The Coordinator for the Hostages and Missing Persons added: “We are to be informed that the Red Cross convoy, composed of a number of vehicles, will reinforce its capabilities.

This is a convoy that will number between eight and 10 vehicles, including jeeps, a minibus and also an ambulance if needed. I am in continuous contact with the head of the Red Cross delegation; they received all the means they requested from us.”

Collecting the hostages

According to the plan, the Red Cross convoy will pick up the hostages at a location coordinated with Hamas. The convoy will then link up with IDF forces, and from there the hostages will be taken to the Re’im camp in the Negev.

“What is clear is that there will be one release wave of all 20 hostages,” Hirsch said. “We have teams that will carry out the initial contact. These are specialists in the psychological field and in providing a sense of security.”

At the Re’im camp the hostages’ family members and relatives will be waiting. Each hostage will be received into a separate room, initially for basic first arrangements.

The hostages will each undergo an initial medical check to assess their condition and determine whether urgent immediate action is required, and then they will meet their relatives.

“The Re’im compound underwent a process of re-preparation, a significant enlargement, because this is a release of all the living hostages at once, and not as before in smaller groups,” Hirsch said.

“We prepared to receive all the families, and each of them will be given the necessary conditions and the privacy required with their loved one.”

Subsequently, freed captives will be flown by Air Force helicopters to the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer (which will receive 10 of them), Ichilov in Tel Aviv (which will receive five) and Beilinson in Petah Tikva (which will also receive five).

“The plan is to provide each of them with a ‘safe room’ — a completely closed area for the family alone and for the medical team with the hostage,” Hirsch said.

“There will be an orderly process of medical checks, assessment of their condition and entry into a rehabilitation program with all the experts.”

Hirsch added: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally came on Friday to receive a briefing and review, and to check the preparedness of the health system and the directorate and of the IDF to receive the living hostages in the hospitals.

He gave several instructions on the matter, and we are prepared for this process.” Israeli teams also prepared for possible evacuation to Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva and Barzilai in Ashkelon, in case an urgent transfer of hostages is needed.

Hirsch further noted:

“The Hostages and Missing Persons Directorate has completed its preparations for reception at the hospitals as well, and is assisting the families together with the IDF in the required arrangements in terms of transporting the families, placing them in the right location and all the conditions they need.

From the moment they are here, we will support the hostages and the families. They will receive the package that was approved in the Knesset in orderly legislation with disability percentages, payments and everything that the state supports them with extensively.”

The dead hostages

Under the agreement between Israel and Hamas, the terror organization is also supposed to release the 28 dead hostages. Israeli estimates are that only about half of them will be returned on Monday.

“From the moment the living hostages arrive at the Re’im camp, the Red Cross will adapt the vehicles and prepare for the return of dead hostages. From there they are expected to collect coffins of deceased hostages in vehicles adapted for that purpose.

I cannot state my estimate, but certainly a number of deceased hostages are expected to be released and transferred to us already tomorrow,” according to Hirsch.

He added that the dead hostages "will be received by our forces, and there the coffins will be wrapped in the Israeli flag. A military ceremony of salute, honor and prayers will be held as defined and as was done in previous receptions.

At that ceremony there will be an IDF honor guard, a military chaplain will lead prayers, and the coffins will be loaded onto vehicles already prepared for the mission.

The convoy will then proceed to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Abu Kabir, where the identification process will take place.”

After identification is certain, the Hostages and Missing Persons Directorate will forward the information to the families of the deceased.

“We will also inform the families of the deceased hostages who were not identified, so that they know that their loved one has still not been returned, and we will continue our effort to bring them back,” Hirsch said.

“The directorate is also prepared to assist in holding funerals according to the families’ requests.”

And what about the deceased hostages who will not be returned tomorrow?

“We agreed in the negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh on the establishment of a task force that will be composed of Israel, the United States, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the Red Cross," according to Hirsch.

"The task force will operate immediately after we know which deceased hostages have been returned and who has not been returned. From that moment the force will begin to act vis-à-vis Hamas, including activity on the ground to reach the points that we will share.”

He added: “We demanded a 100% effort to obtain information from Hamas, in order to operate according to the procedure of a special investigative team that will reach locations and carry out searches and scans in places where engineering activity will be required to clear the rubble. We are coordinated with Red Cross experts, and intend to act as quickly as we can to complete the return of all deceased hostages who are not returned tomorrow. This will happen continuously and persistently.”

“We will define what 100% effort means, because we have clear expectations. There are things that must be done so that we can reach our dead.

This means, first of all, sharing information — we will demand details about each of the deceased hostages and request that they share information about what they know, and we will share information regarding what we know.

I placed a closure on certain areas in Gaza, where we will not allow any infrastructure or rehabilitation activities even during the ceasefire period.

If there is a place where, in our assessment, hostages were buried, interred or hidden — we will not allow anyone to enter there and damage the site. We have not yet received information about the deceased hostages who will be handed over to us.”

Hirsch recalled that among the 48 hostages are also four foreign nationals — two from Thailand, one from Nepal and one from Tanzania.

“For me, the central thing is to ensure the return process safely and perfectly, and to be ready to deal with unexpected events,” said Hirsch. “Even tomorrow the mission is not over, the mission is not complete.

I am focused on what has not been completed. We must ensure that the ‘Returning Home’ operation is carried out successfully and smoothly. The mission will not be completed until all our hostages are home.”

Regarding the security prisoners who will be released from Israeli prisons in exchange for the hostages’ return, Hirsch said: “There will be no further changes to the prisoners’ list.

Only when all 20 living hostages are with us will permission be given for the buses with the prisoners to move. We are transferring 15 bodies of terrorists to Hamas for every coffin of one of our deceased hostages.”

Katz to IDF: Get ready to destroy Hamas tunnel network

Oct. 12, 2025

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Sunday that he had ordered the military to prepare for the destruction of Hamas’s Gaza tunnels as part of U.S. President Donald Trump’s plan to disarm the terrorist group.

“The major challenge for Israel after the [first] stage of returning the hostages will be the destruction of all of Hamas’s terror tunnels in Gaza, both directly by the IDF and through the international mechanism that will be established under U.S. leadership and oversight,” Katz tweeted.

“This is the primary meaning of implementing the agreed principle of demilitarizing the Gaza Strip and disarming Hamas,” wrote the defense minister. “I have instructed the IDF to prepare to carry out the mission.”

Under the U.S.-brokered deal, the Jewish state is to receive, by a revised deadline of 6 a.m. on Monday, the 20 remaining living captives and the remains of 28 others.

Ahead of this, the IDF has withdrawn to the “yellow line,” leaving it in control of just over half of Gaza. Israel will also free hundreds of Arab terrorists.

After the first phase is completed, Trump’s 20-point plan is to move to a second phase, in which Gaza is to be de-radicalized and demilitarized.

In January 2024, The New York Times reported that Hamas’s network of terror tunnels was more extensive than previously thought, with new assessments indicating then it had upward of 5,700 entry shafts.

Following intensive operations in the Hamas stronghold of Khan Yunis, Israel came to believe that the Islamist organization built up to 450 miles of subterranean infrastructure, up from a previous estimate of 250 miles.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman told U.S. podcaster Dave Rubin on Oct. 9 that if he had one criticism of the Swords of Iron war, it was that it was taking too long, a fact he attributed to Hamas’s tunnel system.

“They got 350 miles’ worth of terror tunnels,” Friedman said, adding that the IDF didn’t understand what it was dealing with. “Hamas, I say, had the greatest home court advantage in the history of ground warfare.”

South African sensor was found in Russian kamikaze drones

October 12, 2025

South African authorities have opened an inquiry after a laser rangefinder made by Centurion firm Lightware Optoelectronics was identified among parts recovered from Russian strike drones operating over Ukraine. (Bloomberg)

Ukraine’s special envoy for sanctions, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, said the unit can measure distance and act as a contact sensor that may trigger detonation when a drone reaches its target.

Ukrainian intelligence listed the device among components discovered in a long-range Garpiya-A1 drone. (BusinessTech)

The National Conventional Arms Control Committee said the company involved is not registered to trade in munitions or dual-use military goods.

They also said that inspectors will visit the Lightware premises to establish the scope of the business and any export controls required.

Sipho Mashaba, acting director for conventional arms control, made the statement in response to enquiries.

Lightware’s chief executive, Nadia Nilsen, said the company makes civilian sensors used in driverless vehicles, mining and wildlife monitoring and that the discontinued SF-20 model in question was never intended for military use.

She said the firm uses end-user declarations and that sensors can be resold through intermediaries beyond the company’s control.

Analysts note the discovery raises uncomfortable questions about global supply chains for commercial components and how they can be diverted into conflict zones.

Russia has increased production of Shahed-type and Garpiya-type drones, relying on foreign components in several cases, according to international reporting. (Reuters)

Investors and community members in Centurion expressed shock at the news. Samantha Pokroy of Sanari Capital called the finding ‘ profoundly disturbing’ and said manufacturers often lack the ability to trace final end use once parts leave authorised distributors.

Drone malfunction at Filmfare 2025 injures one, causes choas and panic among onlookers

Updated on: 12 October,2025 06:00 PM IST

The recent edition of the Filmfare Awards held in Ahmedabad started off on a troubling note as a drone show went awry.

The opening segment of the 70th Filmfare Awards saw a drone show paying tribute to some of the biggest stars of Hindi cinema, and showing off the statuette.

However, as the drone show wrapped up, one of the drones malfunctioned and fell over the audience section, injuring a female attendee.

The injury, though minor, created a panic in the audience for a good 10-15 minutes. However, things went back to normal quickly as the rest of the show was carried forward seamlessly.

The drone malfunction mirrors the recent drone show disaster in China. On October 2, 2025, a drone and fireworks show in Liuyang, Hunan Province, China, malfunctioned during National Day celebrations.

The event, titled "October: The Sound of Blooming Flowers", aimed to create a 3D visual spectacle over land and river.

However, hundreds of synchronised drones spiralled out of control shortly after takeoff, some catching fire and triggering blazes on the ground. Spectators were seen fleeing and shielding themselves from falling debris.

Remarkably, authorities reported no injuries, and fires were quickly extinguished. The incident echoed a similar mishap the previous year in Quanzhou, where over 2,000 drones failed during a cultural show.

The malfunction sparked mass panic, but authorities confirmed no injuries were reported. The incident has now sparked a conversation about regulations, technological safeguards, and the management of public safety during large-scale drone performances.

With the 5th industrial revolution already in force courtesy of artificial intelligence, the nature of mishaps in the fast-paced and hi-tech world is changing, posing risks for mass gatherings.

As for Filmfare Awards, Abhishek Bachchan and Kartik Aaryan shared the honour for Best Actor, and Alia Bhatt was feted with the honour of Best Actress for her role in 'Jigra'.

Drone spotted over Kabul amid renewed cross-border tensions with Pakistan

October 12, 2025

Residents of Kabul reported seeing an unidentified drone flying over the capital Sunday morning, amid rising tensions along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Witnesses told Amu TV the drone appeared over the city around 11 a.m. local time, though its origin and purpose remain unclear.

The sighting came just hours after Pakistani drones reportedly struck parts of Spin Boldak district in southern Kandahar province, near the border with Pakistan. Details about casualties from the airstrikes were not immediately available.

The drone activity and airstrikes follow a night of heavy clashes between Taliban fighters and Pakistani border forces along various stretches of the contested frontier.

Taliban on Sunday claimed to have killed 58 Pakistani soldiers in retaliatory attacks after earlier Pakistani airstrikes, while Pakistani officials accused the Taliban of harboring militants and escalating hostilities.

Pakistan has often asked the Taliban to act against Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan. Taliban have denied the presence of TTP in Afghanistan but a UN monitoring group reported in September that the group has at least 6,000 fighters in Afghanistan.

The U.S. government is sitting on a trove of UFO records. It should release them

Oct 11, 2025

At a recent congressional hearing, the public fixated on a leaked video appearing to show a U.S. missile striking an unidentified object off Yemen in 2024.

Whatever the object was, one pressing question is why it took a leak — rather than government disclosure — for the public to see it.

I spent more than 30 years inside the U.S. intelligence community, including serving as deputy assistant secretary of defense for intelligence and later as a consultant to the military.

During those years, I witnessed a troubling pattern: Incidents of unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAP (formerly known as unidentified flying objects), were detected by cutting-edge radar and other systems but routinely dismissed, buried or classified beyond justification.

In 2017, I helped bring footage of three UAP encounters to the public. Those clips, recorded on advanced infrared cameras by Navy aviators, forced the Pentagon to admit that UAP are real.

Since then, academia, startups, civil society groups, the U.S. government and foreign governments have attempted to better understand UAP.

Lawmakers are holding hearings and classified briefings. But progress remains halting. After the release of the Navy videos, the intelligence community reclassified almost everything concerning UAP, slowing disclosure to a trickle.

Rather than honor its pledge to Congress to support UAP transparency, the Pentagon continues a slow drip.

I don’t have a precise number (even that’s probably classified), but among the thousands of publicly acknowledged UAP reports and videos, there are undoubtedly many that are no more sensitive than the three I shared with the public.

Other UAP records may go back 80 years and pose no conceivable threat to national security if they were made public.

How can the government assert that nearly everything about UAP should be classified? Once made public, the three Navy UAP videos strengthened national security by drawing attention to unexplained intrusions into U.S. airspace.

Instead of working with Congress to enhance our domain awareness, the intelligence community created new UAP classification rules, cloaking such videos going forward.

Unfortunately, secrecy is often wielded not to protect the nation but to mask inconvenient truths. I have seen many documents that were overclassified by zealous security officials.

But excessive secrecy erodes public trust, deprives scientists of crucial data and undermines congressional oversight.

It may also be illegal. Federal law requires the government to transfer its UAP records to the National Archives for public release.

Yet the collection so far remains piddling. A presidential executive order forbids classifying records to “prevent embarrassment” or “conceal violations of law.”

“If there is significant doubt about the need to classify information,” the order continues, “it shall not be classified.”

Meanwhile, the bipartisan UAP Disclosure Act, a landmark bill that once passed the Senate, would establish a new declassification guide for UAP.

An amendment to the defense bill, the bipartisan UAP Disclosure Act, if enacted, would establish a comprehensive framework to shepherd disclosure. I hope Congress passes both pieces of legislation.

But legislation is not the only tool. This is why the UAP Disclosure Fund, a nonprofit organization where I am the board chair, is taking action.

We are filing a battery of requests under the Freedom of Information Act to obtain UAP records from the government. If necessary, we will litigate these requests in federal court.

These requests include those for records the government acknowledges exist but has not released.

For example, according to a now-public memorandum entitled “Flying Discs” housed in the National Archives, in 1948 the Air Force ordered round-the-clock fighters equipped with “gun camera, and such armament as deemed advisable, in order to secure photographs” of these phenomena. Where are these photographs.

We are also calling for more recent reports that can be released without compromising sensitive technologies and documents that could reveal how UAP data has been analyzed — or suppressed.

We need progress now. In a democracy, public debate makes better policy, but that isn’t happening when it comes to UAP. If some of these objects are foreign surveillance platforms, every moment of undue secrecy weakens our defense.

If they represent natural phenomena, understanding them is critical to aviation safety. If they represent other phenomena we do not yet understand, disclosure is the first step toward serious scientific study.

The 1960s Project That Broke Physics

Oct 10, 2025

In the early 1960s, scientists at Lawrence Livermore ran a classified fusion experiment known as Project Ripple.

It was designed to create cleaner, more efficient thermonuclear reactions, but what they discovered may have gone far beyond energy research.

According to reports and declassified fragments, Ripple produced wave patterns and compression effects no one could explain… results that were quickly buried after the 1963 Test Ban Treaty.

Did this project stumble onto something deeper… something that broke the limits of known physics?

ALIEN Icon Sigourney Weaver Reveals That She Is In Talks To Reprise Ripley Role

Oct 12, 2025 01:10 PM EST

We might just see Sigourney Weaver return to the Alien franchise after all.

The recent rumor that the next Alien movie could bring Weaver back to play a de-aged Ellen Ripley was met with a mixture of excitement and trepidation from fans of the classic sci-fi horror franchise, but Alien: Romulus director Fede Álvarez soon debunked the report as "fun gossip."

Weaver had the following to say during a panel appearance at New York Comic-Con over the weekend.

“[‘Alien’ producer] Walter Hill is a very good friend of mine, and he wrote 50 pages of where Ripley would be now, and they’re quite extraordinary,” Weaver on stage during a conversation moderated by Josh Horowitz.

“I don’t know if it’s going to happen, but I have had a meeting with Fox or Disney…I’ve never felt the need [to reprise the role]. I was always like, ‘Let her rest, let her recover.’

What Walter has written seems so true to me, as very much about the society that would incarcerate someone who has tried to help mankind, but she’s a problem to them, so she’s sort of tucked away.

I think it’s a very strong first 50 pages. I’m thinking about working with Walter to see what the rest of the story would be.”

"It would not be running around air shafts," she added. "It would be a very different kind of Alien with a really good script. Scary.”

So, if Weaver does decide to return as Ripley, it sounds like she'll be playing the character without the use of de-ageing technology.

If this is the case, we assume the events of both David Fincher's Alien 3 - which killed Ripley off - and Alien: Resurrection - which brought her back as a clone - will be ignored, and the story will pick up after the events of James Cameron's Aliens.

“But I love what he's done with the character," Weaver went on. "He really gets her strength and her anger and her humor, and it's very hard to write. It's surprisingly hard to write Ripley.

Everybody makes you sound like a gym teacher. ‘All right, people, let's do business!’ So Walter has it.”

District 9 director Neill Blomkamp attempted to get an Alien movie starring Weaver and Michael Biehn (Hicks) off the ground a few years ago, but the project ended up being scrapped.

What do you make of this news? Would you like to see Weaver back as Ripley?
