ALLIES of Israel
The United States is Israel’s most significant ally, providing unwavering political, military, and financial support. The U.S. supplies Israel with over $3.8 billion annually in military aid and has a Mutual Defense Assistance Pact. Intelligence sharing, joint military exercises, and cooperation on missile defense (e.g., Iron Dome) are central to the relationship.
WHY?
Following the 2020 Abraham Accords, the UAE normalized relations with Israel, leading to cooperation in trade, technology, and defense. The two countries have conducted joint military drills and intelligence sharing, particularly focused on countering regional threats.
Also a signatory to the Abraham Accords, Bahrain established diplomatic ties with Israel in 2020. While relations are more limited than with the UAE, cooperation exists in cybersecurity, aviation, and counterterrorism.
Morocco resumed diplomatic relations with Israel in 2020, facilitated by U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara. Cooperation includes defense agreements, direct flights, and agricultural and technological partnerships.
Egypt was the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1979. While public sentiment remains cautious, the two maintain full diplomatic relations and coordinate closely on security issues in the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza border.
Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994. The two countries cooperate on water management, counterterrorism, and intelligence, particularly regarding instability in the West Bank and Gaza. Diplomatic tensions arise periodically due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Germany is a key European ally, providing political support in international forums and significant defense cooperation, including submarine sales that enhance Israel’s strategic deterrence.
India has developed strong strategic ties with Israel, particularly in defense technology, agriculture, and counterterrorism. Israel is one of India’s top arms suppliers.
Greece and Cyprus
These Eastern Mediterranean nations cooperate with Israel on energy projects (e.g., EastMed pipeline), military exercises, and regional diplomacy, forming a de facto strategic triangle.
