House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) spoke to reporters at the U.S. Capitol on Day 17 of the government shutdown, criticizing House Republicans for not being on Capitol Hill as the shutdown stretched into a third week. He also was critical of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who the day prior said the Democratic Party's base was made up of "Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals" during an appearance on Fox News.
