U.S. Senate Candidate in Nebraska Claims to be an Independent But is Being Bankrolled by Prominent Democrats

Labor Union leader Dan Osborn, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, has campaigned on being an "Independent," going as far as saying he has no plans to caucus with either major party if elected, but his recent FEC filings paint a different picture.

Osborn has not only been endorsed by leaders of the Nebraska Democratic Party and mobilized fundraising on ActBlue, the Democratic Party's main fundraising platform. He has also accepted donations from several prominent Washington Democrats and Democrat political action committees.

Among the donors to his campaign are the campaign of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and the PACs of former Democrat senators Bob Kerrey and Jon Tester. Democracy Summer, a leadership PAC founded by Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, also donated $2,000.

The latest FEC filings, released last week, also show Osborn continues to accept fundraising support from The People United, a left-wing super PAC that has supported Democrat ‘Squad’ members like Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, Summer Lee and Ilhan Omar

"As an independent, I’ll be uniquely positioned to bring together a majority to get it done," Osborn's "Where I Stand" webpage on his campaign website states in reference to securing the border from illegal immigration. "I believe we all have more in common with each other than we do with the partisans who run Washington."

But those "partisans" in Washington, at least some, appear to be helping fund his campaign against former Nebraska GOP governor and current junior Nebraska Sen. Pete Ricketts.

"Dan Osborn is bought and paid for by his liberal, out-of-state, coastal donors," a Ricketts campaign spokesman previously said after Osborn announced he would be fighting to get a seat in the Senate for the second election in a row.

In 2024, Osborn came within single digits of defeating Sen. Deb Fischer. Fischer's campaign made similar claims that Osborn was really a Democrat disguising himself as an Independent.

A Fox News Digital review found that during his failed 2024 Senate campaign, Osborn received several $5,000 donations from the leadership PACs of Democratic senators Chuck Schumer of New York, Dick Durbin of Illinois and Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, among others. Warren's Senate campaign also donated another $2,000 to Osborn last year.

European nations are working with Ukraine on a 12-point proposal to end Russia’s war along current battle lines, pushing back against Vladimir Putin’s renewed demands to the US for Kyiv to surrender territory in return for a peace deal.

A peace board chaired by US President Donald Trump would oversee implementation of the proposed plan, according to people familiar with the matter.

Once Russia follows Ukraine in agreeing to a ceasefire and both sides commit to halting territorial advances, the proposals envisage the return of all deported children to Ukraine and exchanges of prisoners. Ukraine would receive security guarantees, funds to repair war damage and a pathway to rapidly join the European Union.

China warns Australia of ‘bloc confrontation’ after Donald Trump’s AUKUS endorsement

The Chinese government has broken its silence on Donald Trump and Anthony Albanese’s meeting with a chilling nuclear warning.

“China has made clear more than once its position on the so-called trilateral security partnership between the US, the UK and Australia designed to advance co-operation on nuclear submarines and other cutting-edge military technologies,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said.

“We oppose bloc confrontation and anything that increases the risk of nuclear proliferation and exacerbates (the) arms race.”

The endorsement from Washington was the first public display of support for the agreement from Mr Trump since his re-election.

Earlier, he had placed the pact under a Pentagon review and sparked concerns it could be scrapped, which would have left Australia billions of dollars worse-off and urgently needing a new centrepiece for its 21st-century defence strategy.

“I think we’ll be just fine with China,” Mr Trump said.

“China doesn’t want to do that.

“First of all, the United States is the strongest military power in the world, by far — it’s not even close, not even close.

“We have the best equipment. We have the best of everything, and nobody’s going to mess with that.”

The emphasis on AUKUS comes as China’s rapid military build-up and aggression toward Taiwan and the Philippines drives fears of a conflict in the Indo-Pacific.

When questioned about foreign interference in Taiwan, China’s position had remained “consistent and clear”, Mr Jiakun said.

“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory. The Taiwan question is purely China’s internal affair and a matter for the Chinese ourselves to resolve.

“We stand ready to strive for peaceful reunification with utmost sincerity and the greatest effort, but we will never ever allow anyone or any force to separate Taiwan from China in any way.”

A riot erupted outside an immigration facility in a Dublin suburb on Tuesday, sparked by the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl.

Although authorities did not disclose the identity of the suspect, the Irish Times reported that he is a rejected asylum seeker who arrived from an African country around six years ago.

Several thousand protesters gathered in Saggart, where some threw projectiles at officers, launched fireworks, and set fire to at least one police van. Police deployed reinforcements and a water cannon to contain the unrest.

According to the Child and Family Agency (Tusla), the assault occurred over the weekend near the former Citywest Hotel, which was converted into a permanent migrant shelter.

The victim, who was under state care,was assaulted after she “absconded from staff whilst on a planned recreational trip with staff in the city center,” the agency said. Tusla added that the victim had been referred to its care earlier this year due to “significant behavioral issues.”

Police said the suspect has been detained for questioning. Officers have 24 hours to charge or release him.
