French jihadists attack Syrian government forces – media

Damascus has reportedly declared a group that helped it topple the previous government a security threat

The new Syrian authorities have reportedly launched a large-scale military campaign targeting the remaining foreign Jihadist forces in the northwestern province of Idlib. The effort is particularly focused on militants hailing from France, reports suggest. The government has declared the groups that once aided it in toppling former President Bashar Assad a security threat.

Clashes reportedly erupted as government forces stormed the so-called “French camp” in the city of Harem, western Idlib overnight, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR). Both sides allegedly suffered casualties in the standoff but the exact figure is unclear. At least two jihadists were arrested. The camp is run by foreign fighters led by a French national of Senegalese origin, Omar Omsen, according to the authorities.

The Syrian General Security Service stated its goal was to arrest Omsen and stabilize the situation in the area. A Telegram channel affiliated with the jihadists published a statement by their leader claiming that the government was acting in coordination with the US and an “international coalition” seeking to eliminate all foreign militants in Syria. He also reportedly threatened Damascus with Jihadi ire by citing support from other foreign militant groups.

The government of interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa is facing threats from the very same forces that helped it ascend to power last November, the Washington Post reported in May.

Le Monde reported in 2023 that almost 200 French nationals, including militants and their family members, fled to Idlib after the fall of Islamic State in 2019. The paper called them “diehard French jihadists” at the time.

According to WaPo’s May report, “hard-line Sunni Muslim militants” were involved in massacres of Alawites along the Syrian coast in March, killing at least 1,300 people. Some of them also turned their ire on al-Sharaa, particularly after his meeting with US President Donald Trump. The talks led to the lifting of sanctions imposed against Syria but reportedly made the interim president an “infidel” in the radicals’ eyes.

Shooting and arson in Serbian capital

Gunshots were heard outside of Serbia’s parliament building on Wednesday, with local reports indicating that one person has been injured. Billowing black smoke could also be seen rising from the scene after the suspect reportedly set fire to a large tent.

According to local news outlet Kurir, the perpetrator has been detained and identified as 70-year-old Vladan Andelkovic. He is said to have shot and wounded a 57-year-old man, Milan Bogdanovic, before igniting a tent that had been erected by supporters of President Aleksandar Vucic outside the National Assembly. Kurir also reported that the suspect threw a handful of ammunition into the flames.

The victim was reportedly wounded in the thigh but did not sustain life-threatening injuries, according to the newspaper. Firefighters have extinguished the blaze, while police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

Brace Yourselves, Another Regime-Change War Is Coming

Whether he has done so wittingly or unwittingly, President Trump has backed himself into a corner with respect to Venezuela. After amassing a formidable armada of military forces in the Caribbean off Venezuelan shores and having killed some 24 suspected U.S. drug-law violators on the high seas, Trump has now effectively committed himself to initiating a regime-change war against Venezuela. Everyone should now brace himself for what is coming — another in a long line of foreign regime-change undeclared wars of aggression in violation of the U.S. Constitution and the principles set forth at Nuremberg.

After all, Trump knows that if he backs down now and orders a withdrawal of that armada of warships, war planes (including B-52s), and tens of thousands of troops, Venezuela’s socialist president Nicolás Maduro will crow about how he forced the all-powerful ruler of the United States to back down and return his military forces to the United States. There is no way that Trump can now permit himself to go down that road. From his own personal perspective, he cannot be seen as being “weak.” He has placed himself in a position where he has to show courage and fortitude by initiating a war against Venezuela, one that leaves Maduro dead or captured.

No doubt that Trump is hoping that this massive military buildup will pressure Maduro into abdicating and fleeing the country, in which case Trump knows that he (Trump) will be hailed as a hero for saving the country from an unelected socialist dictator. Will Maduro do so? It’s possible, and he’d be smart to do so. But if he doesn’t, Trump has placed himself in a position of having to launch an illegal regime-change war against Venezuela, one that will leave at least some innocent people dead.

But consider the benefits of such a war from the standpoint of Trump. First and foremost, a war against Venezuela will put to rest the Jeffrey Epstein rebellion within Trump’s MAGA movement. With the massive military buildup in the Caribbean and the killing of unarmed suspected drug-law violators at the hands of the military, the Epstein rebellion has already dissipated. It will fizzle out with the first bombs or missiles fired into Venezuelan territory.

The fledgling official inquiry into the child rape grooming gang scandal is facing accusations of being compromised as members of the victims’ panel resigned on Monday, citing “disturbing conflicts of interests” among those set to lead the investigation.

Following months of domestic and international pressure, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer backtracked from his initial opposition to conducting a national inquiry with statutory authority on the grooming gang scandal, after previously tarring the idea as “far-right”.

“This is a disturbing conflict of interest, and I fear the lack of trust in services from years of failings and corruption will have a negative impact in survivor engagement with this inquiry,” Goddard wrote in her resignation letter.

She noted that in the 2019 trial against her abusers, members of the jury were dismissed if they had any connection to the police or social services to prevent bias from impacting the decision.

“This inquiry should be held to the same stands as a criminal case, if not higher,” Goddard said. “Having a police officer or social worker leading the inquiry would once again be letting services mark their own homework, the shortlisting of these potential chairs shows the government’s complete lack of understanding of the level of corruption and failings involved in this scandal.”

Putin-Trump Hungary Meeting Reportedly Canceled After Poland Threatened to Intercept Russian Leader’s Plane

Reports surfaced late on Tuesday that Russia and America indefinitely postponed a proposed in-person meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian strongman Vladimir Putin in Budapest, Hungary.

The reports were preceded by comments by the top Polish diplomat that his country could not assure Putin safe passage in Poland’s skies to get to Hungary.

Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said in an interview on Tuesday that Poland could “not guarantee” that its court system would not order the nation’s military to intercept Putin’s plane en route to Budapest and arrest Putin.

“We cannot guarantee that an independent Polish court would not order a hypothetical aircraft carrying Putin to be brought to the ground and the suspect handed over to The Hague,” Sikorski told the Polish broadcaster Radio Rodzina, according to a translation by the Moscow Times. He advised the Russian government to “use a different route” that did not require access to Polish skies.

Sikorski condemned the idea of a summit between Putin and Trump in Hungary, but limited his criticism to the Hungarian government rather than Washington. The minister accused Orbán of declaring Hungary “not part of the West but between the West and Russia” by offering to host such a meeting, whose intent was to discuss the potential to end the ongoing Russian invasion of neighboring Ukraine.

Poland is a member of NATO and a close ally of Ukraine’s. Russia has repeatedly flown drones into Polish airspace, irritating Warsaw and risking a potential direct conflict with NATO.

“This is the secretary of state’s third trip to Israel since mid-September, which further shows the hand-in-hand relationship that Israel and the United States have as we mark this historic time,” she said.

‘Not a client state’

Netanyahu and Vance had a private sit-down on Wednesday morning before holding an expanded meeting with their aides. In joint remarks after the meetings, both leaders pushed back at the notion that Israel acts at Washington’s behest, framing the bond between their countries as one of equals working toward shared strategic goals.

Injuries Claimed: Severe gastroparesis (stomach paralysis), ileus (impaired bowel function), intestinal obstruction and permanent vision loss from non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

Label status: In January 2025, the Ozempic label was updated to state that it is “not recommended in patients with severe gastroparesis,” but does not indicate that the drug itself may cause the condition. In September 2023, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) added ileus warnings to Ozempic.

Settlements: No global settlements have been announced as of October 2025.

Why Are People Filing Ozempic Lawsuits?

Currently, most of the people who have filed Ozempic lawsuits did so because they suffered severe stomach side effects, such as gastroparesis, ileus or intestinal blockage.

However, emerging lawsuits claim the drug caused an eye condition called non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).

The lawsuits are based on the fact that the manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, knew or should have known that Ozempic could lead to these severe side effects but didn’t warn people about the risks.

Hundreds of US rabbis call on Americans to back pro-Israel candidates

More than 600 American rabbis signed a letter urging voters to support candidates who reject antisemitism and anti-Zionism and affirm Israel’s right to exist in peace and security.

"We will not accept a culture that treats Jewish self-determination as a negotiable ideal or Jewish inclusion as something to be 'granted.' The safety and dignity of Jews in every city depend on rejecting that false choice," read the statement. "Therefore, we call on all Americans who value peace and equality to participate fully in the democratic process in order to stand up for candidates who reject antisemitic and anti-Zionist rhetoric, and who affirm Israel’s right to exist in peace and security."

The 645 rabbis who signed the call to action, by the time of writing, had made the statement in response to the rise and normalization of political anti-Zionism across the country, including the campaign of New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

The statement noted that Mamdani had refused to condemn slogans such as "globalize the intifada," had denied Israel's legitimacy as a Jewish state, and accused the country of engaging in Genocide.

The statement quoted the signatory and the NY Board of Rabbis president, Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, in a video statement to the candidate last Thursday, in which he urged him to reconsider positions that delegitimize the Jewish community and encouraged and exacerbated "hostility towards Judaism and Jews."

The statement also cited Park Avenue Synagogue Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove, who explained in a Saturday sermon calling on community members to vote against Mamdani that Zionism, Israel, and Jewish self-determination were an inextricable part of Jewish identity for many Jews. Cosgrove had not signed the statement by Wednesday.

The hundreds of rabbis also called on other religious and communal partners to stand with the Jewish community in rejecting dangerous rhetoric.

"Now is the time for everyone to unite across political and moral divides, and to reject the language that seeks to delegitimize our Jewish identity and our community," said the rabbis.
