Awhile back, I was thinking about the "Uncle Sam" character. I realized that it is a trick.
Most Americans were rightfully suspicious of government, and their lack of trust was something that kept the government in line.
"Uncle Sam" changed that, by making it seem that the govt. is part of our family.
We should reconsider that idea.
