IDF targets Hezbollah sites in series of airstrikes across Lebanon; 4 said killed

October 24, 2025 11:03 am

The Israeli Air Force on Thursday carried out a series of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, the military said, with Lebanese authorities reporting four dead.

The first wave of strikes in the afternoon, carried out by five IAF fighter jets, hit 16 Hezbollah sites in the eastern Beqaa Valley and in northern Lebanon, including a training camp and precision missile manufacturing site, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

In the evening, the IDF said it struck a Hezbollah weapons depot in the Nabatieh area.

Lebanon’s health ministry said that strikes in eastern areas resulted in an initial death toll of two people, with two others killed in the separate Nabatieh strike.

The weapons depot, in the southern town of Arabsalim near Nabatieh, was used by Hezbollah to advance attacks on Israel, the IDF said.

Among those killed in the strike in Arabsalim was Maher Hassan Younis, who was identified in an official “martyr poster” as a member of Hezbollah. An 82-year-old woman, Zainab Musa, was also killed in the strike, Lebanese media reported.

“The Hezbollah terror organization continues to attempt to rebuild terror infrastructure sites across Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields,” the IDF said, adding that “the presence of the terror infrastructure constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

Earlier in the day, the IDF said that Hezbollah operatives had been gathered at the training camp in the Beqaa Valley when it was bombed.

The site was used by the terror group to plan attacks against Israel, the military said. The missile manufacturing site in the same area had been struck by Israeli forces numerous times before.

“The storage of weapons, the presence of terror infrastructure and the conduct of military training against the State of Israel by Hezbollah terrorists constitute a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a threat to the State of Israel,” the military added.

Immediately after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza war, Hezbollah began launching rockets and drones at Israel in support of its Palestinian ally.

Months of exchanges escalated into all-out war in September 2024 — including a ground offensive in southern Lebanon — during which Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and many other top leaders were killed, before a ceasefire was eventually reached.

Under the November 27, 2024, ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, weapons in south Lebanon were to be held only by the state, and the IDF was permitted to act against imminent threats by the terror group.

Israel withdrew from all but five strategic points in southern Lebanon.

Since the ceasefire, the IDF has said it has killed over 300 Hezbollah operatives in strikes, hit hundreds of Hezbollah sites, and conducted over 1,000 raids and other small operations in southern Lebanon.

Weakened by the war and still facing regular Israeli strikes, Hezbollah is under internal and international pressure to hand over its weapons, with the Lebanese army having drawn up a plan to disarm it.

RSF drone strikes hit Khartoum airport ahead of planned reopening

October 24, 2025 12:13 pm

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a series of drone attacks on Khartoum International Airport on Thursday, October 23, marking the third consecutive day of strikes.

According to Sudan News, seven drones targeted the airport and surrounding areas in the southern part of the capital, sending waves of panic among residents as explosions echoed through the city.

The attacks come just days before the airport’s planned reopening following a two-year closure, with its first civilian passenger flight having landed on Wednesday.

Security sources told Rakoba News that no significant damage was reported despite the intensity of the strikes.

Analysts say the latest assault signals a shift in the dynamics of Sudan’s ongoing conflict, as the RSF increasingly turns to drone warfare to apply military and political pressure on the Sudanese army.

The civil war, which erupted in April 2023, has claimed more than 20,000 lives and displaced 14 million people, according to the United Nations and local authorities.

There has been no immediate response from the RSF regarding Thursday’s attacks, but the continued escalation highlights the fragility of efforts to restore stability in Sudan.

Nigerian army kills over 50 Boko Haram militants as it fights off drone attacks

Last updated: 24/10/2025

Nigeria's military killed more than 50 Boko Haram militants in response to drone attacks on military bases in the country's northeast, the army said Thursday.

Army spokesperson Sani Uba said in a statement that militants launched simultaneous attacks on military bases in Borno and Yobe states early Thursday.

It added that a combination of ground and air assaults enabled the military to defeat the militants who launched their attacks from northern Cameroon and Katarko, a village located in Yobe State.

The spokesperson said that ground troops, backed by the Air Component, are still pursuing more than 70 wounded militants “in close coordination.”

Last month, Boko Haram militants killed at least 60 people in a nighttime attack on Darul Jamal, a village in northeastern Nigeria.

Boko Haram, Nigeria’s homegrown jihadis, took up arms in 2009 to fight Western education and impose their radical version of Islamic law or Sharia.

The decade-long conflict has spilt into Nigeria’s northern neighbours, including Niger, and resulted in the death of around 35,000 civilians and the displacement of more than 2 million others, according to the United Nations.

The insurgent group split into two factions after the death of the group’s longtime leader, Abubakar Shekau, in 2021.

One faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province, is backed by the Islamic State group and has become notorious for targeting military positions.

Recently, the U.S. approved a potential $346 million weapons sale to improve security in Africa’s most populous country.

How Mysterious Drone Flights Are Paralysing Europe's Busiest Airports

Oct 24, 2025 18:32 pm IST

Mysterious drone flights over the airspace of European Union member countries in recent weeks have alarmed the public and elected officials.

Intrusions into NATO's airspace, some of them blamed on Russia, reached an unprecedented scale last month.

Some European officials described the incidents as Moscow testing NATO's response, which raised questions about how prepared the alliance is against Russia.

On September 10, a swarm of Russian drones flew into Poland's airspace, forcing NATO aircraft to scramble to intercept them and shoot down some of the devices.

It was the first direct encounter between NATO and Moscow since Russia launched its all-out war on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.

Days later, NATO jets escorted three Russian warplanes out of Estonia's airspace.

Since then, flyovers have occurred near airports, military installations and critical infrastructure, among other locations, elsewhere on the continent and prompted European defense ministers to agree to develop a "drone wall" along their borders to better detect, track and intercept drones violating Europe's airspace.

Russia has been blamed for some of them, but denies that anything was done on purpose or that it played a role.

European authorities haven't released much detail about the drone intrusions, with some not acknowledging the overflights publicly until days later.

Other times, authorities were unable to confirm a report of a sighting. At one point, Danish authorities were flooded with 500 tips of sightings over 24 hours - some of which turned out to be just stars in the sky.

Countries are scrambling to figure out how to respond at the moment, including weighing whether to allow authorities to shoot the drones down.

On Thursday, however, Russian military planes briefly violated Lithuania's airspace in what the Lithuanian president called a blatant breach of the territorial integrity of his EU and NATO-member country.

Here's what we know about some of the recent sightings:

Germany's Munich Airport was shut down twice earlier this month due to drone sightings.

In Denmark, drones flew over Copenhagen Airport on September 22, causing a major disruption to air traffic in and out of Scandinavia's largest airport.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Russian involvement couldn't be ruled out, calling it "the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date."

Meanwhile, a report of a drone sighting occurred the same evening at Norway's Oslo Airport, forcing all traffic to one runway. Authorities were investigating whether there was a link between the two major airports.

Drones also flew over four smaller Danish airports between Sept. 24 and Sept. 25, including two that serve as military bases. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said that a "professional" actor was likely behind the "systematic flights."

In the same time frame, several Danish media outlets reported that one or more drones were seen near or above the Karup Air Base, which is Denmark's biggest military base.

The defense ministry refused to confirm the sighting at Karup or elsewhere, and said that "for reasons of operational security and the ongoing investigation, the Defense Command Denmark does not wish to elaborate further on drone sightings."

In Germany, authorities investigated claims that unidentified drones may have spied on critical infrastructure in the northern state of Schleswig-Holstein.

Multiple drones were spotted on September 25 over a power plant in the state capital of Kiel, as well as near a university hospital and a shipyard in the port city, according to a Der Spiegel report.

Regional Interior Minister Sabine Sutterlin-Waack told a committee of the state parliament that flying objects of "various types and sizes" had been spotted. Chief Public Prosecutor Stephanie Gropp said an investigation was underway.

Der Spiegel said that two small drones had been seen over the Kiel factory premises of TKMS, a maritime defense technologies provider.

Later, a "combined drone formation" was observed over the university hospital and a power plant, and other drone sightings were reported over governmental buildings and the Heide oil refinery in the area, the report said.

Further suspicious drones were spotted over a military base in Sanitz, in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state to the east, the weekly reported.

Last month, Estonia summoned a Russian diplomat to protest after three Russian fighter aircraft entered its airspace without permission and stayed there for 12 minutes.

Weeks later, the Lithuanian armed forces said in a statement that about 6 p.m. local time Thursday, two Russian military aircraft flew into Lithuanian airspace for about 700 meters (765 yards), The SU-30 aircraft and IL-78 refueling aircraft flew away after roughly 18 seconds.

The Lithuanian armed forces believe the military planes might have been conducting refuelling exercises in the neighboring Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

Two Spanish fighter jets, which had been doing NATO air policing missions, were scrambled and flew out to the area.

Russia's Defense Ministry, meanwhile, rejected the Lithuanian claim that Russian fighter jets had intruded into its airspace.

It said in a statement that Su-30 fighter jets on Thursday conducted training flights over its Kaliningrad region in strict compliance with the rules.

Baltic nations already have been on heightened alert over neighboring Russia's aggression on Ukraine.

UFO App Logs Mysterious Underwater Sightings

October 24, 2025

Enigma, a popular UFO reporting app, monitors unusual aerial activity. However, they also receive reports of objects emerging from bodies of water or traveling underwater.

Enigma has recently released a collection that serves as a repository for these reports and includes a history of anomalous underwater reports and statistics on the reports they have received.

Unidentified Submersible Objects (USOs) refer to any object or phenomenon detected underwater that cannot be immediately identified or explained.

The term is similar to UFO/UAP but applies specifically to subsurface or underwater contexts. From medieval chronicles to present-day Navy radar logs, witnesses have reported observations both with the naked eye and through sensors like sonar.

They are often described as moving at extraordinary speeds, taking sudden changes of direction with impossible precision, and transitioning between water and air without leaving a ripple —“transmedium” capabilities.

USO reports go back to the 11th century when witnesses in England reported seeing a fiery object that “revolved, ascended on high, and then descended into the sea,” repeatedly reappearing off the Northumberland coast.

In a famous report from 1825, English naturalist Andrew Bloxam, sailing on the HMS Blonde, witnessed a red, luminous orb rising from the sea.

He wrote that it was “the color of a red-hot [cannon] shot” and bright enough that “a pin might be picked up on deck.” The orb rose and fell twice before vanishing from sight.

Reports continue to this day. Veteran Navy sonar operator Aaron Amick has noted that unusual “fast mover” contacts occasionally appear on sonar, but they are “so quick that you can’t measure the speed."

In his November 2024 testimony before the House Oversight Committee, Former Naval Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet made it clear that he sees these objects and incidents as a serious national security risk.

Of the reports Enigma has collected, two include mysterious lights moving below the ocean’s surface captured on phone cameras, and seafarers reporting objects coming up from the deep.

The most striking video is of two mysterious underwater lights captured from a boat.

As of August 2025, the Enigma app has logged over 9,000 U.S. sightings within 10 miles of shorelines and major waterways.

Approximately 1,500 of those reports specifically mention “water,” “ocean,” “lake,” or “beach” (≈17%), and roughly 500 of those occurred within 5 miles of a coastline (≈5.6% of the total).

More than 150 reports describe objects hovering above or ascending into or descending from bodies of water. The U.S. states with the most USO reports are California (389) and Florida (306), which is not surprising, given their large coastal populations.

Real or Hoax? Shock as UFO Fleet Caught on Camera Racing Over Japan at 'Impossible' Speed

24 October 2025, 2:39 PM BST

A viral video claiming to show a fleet of unidentified flying objects streaking across Japan's night sky has sparked feverish online debate.

While some users insist it's 'proof of alien activity,' experts and officials caution that the footage likely depicts drones, aircraft, or optical illusions rather than extraterrestrial visitors.

The Viral Video That Sparked the Frenzy

The clip, posted earlier this week on social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, shows multiple bright objects racing in apparent formation before disappearing into the distance.

Eyewitnesses described the lights as 'faster than any jet' and 'blinking in unison.'

As of Friday, no official confirmation has been issued by the Japanese government or Self-Defence Forces.

However, analysts say the incident fits a broader regional surge in Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) reports across East Asia.

Japan Already Probing UFO Reports

The sighting comes as Japan intensifies its efforts to investigate unexplained aerial phenomena.

In June 2024, more than 80 lawmakers formed a parliamentary group to study UAPs, following a US Department of Defence report that labelled East Asia—from western Japan to China—a 'hotspot' for sightings, according to CBS News.

Former Defence Minister Yasukazu Hamada warned that 'leaving something unknown is a problem for national security,' adding that some objects could represent foreign surveillance drones, not alien craft, as cited by Popular Mechanics.

Japan's Self-Defence Forces are now working with US military officials to standardise reporting protocols, while civil aviation authorities assess potential safety risks to commercial aircraft.

Experts Split Between Fascination and Scepticism

Video analysts and atmospheric scientists have urged caution before jumping to conclusions.

In the viral footage, the supposed UFOs appear to move in straight lines and at uniform speed, behaviours consistent with aircraft formations or meteors.

'The combination of consumer-grade cameras, long exposure, and motion blur can easily make normal lights look like high-speed anomalies,' one aerospace researcher explained to Popular Mechanics.

Science communicator Mick West added that Japan's reputation as a 'UFO hotspot' partly stems from heavy webcam coverage in areas such as Fukushima, where countless cameras constantly monitor the skies.

Could It Be a Hoax or Misidentification?

While no evidence suggests deliberate fakery, several possibilities are being considered:

Commercial or military drones: Japan has previously detected suspected Chinese surveillance balloons and unregistered aircraft over its territory, according to CBS News.

Celestial or meteorological events: Bright meteors, satellites, or reflections from high-altitude aircraft can mimic organised formations under certain light conditions.

Video manipulation or optical illusion: The rapid movement seen in handheld footage may result from camera shake and compression artefacts.

Until Japanese defence or weather agencies confirm radar data or eyewitness reports from multiple locations, analysts say the 'fleet' remains unverified.

Japan's Expanding UAP Research Network

Japan is now one of the world's most active centres for UAP and UFO research.

A Popular Mechanics report found the country records hundreds of aerial anomalies each year, driven by both public fascination and official acknowledgement of unknown phenomena.

Security analysts say the recent video underscores the challenge of distinguishing credible scientific evidence from viral misinformation.

'Whether atmospheric illusion or something else, this is exactly why Japan is formalising its UAP protocols,' a Tokyo-based defence analyst told IBTimes UK.

Verdict: Unverified, But Impossible to Ignore

As of this week, no independent evidence supports claims that the Japan footage shows non-terrestrial craft. Yet the sighting highlights both public appetite for UFO stories and the growing need for scientific transparency.

For now, experts agree: the footage should be analysed objectively, not sensationalised. Whether the lights were drones, meteors, or something truly unknown, the event reaffirms that mystery still lingers above even the world's most closely watched skies.

“Faster than a Meteor”: Missouri Man Describes Weird Sighting

October 24, 2025

How many times have you seen something in the sky that you thought was an aircraft, but then it started moving strangely?

That just happened to a Missouri man who lives in the middle of nowhere who thought what he thought as a plane, but then it started moving much too fast to be a known aircraft.

According to the National UFO Reporting Center, a man near Lenox, Missouri witnessed something strange the night of October 19, 2025

According to his eyewitness testimony that was shared on the NUFORC site, it was around 7pm the night of October 19, 2025 when he saw what he thought was an aircraft traveling north, but when he saw how fast it was, he knew this was not a plane since it was "beyond comprehension faster than a meteor".

It also wasn't a meteor since he saw it change direction. He saw the object dim and then head back south. He said that whatever it was made no sound and traveled all the way across the sky overhead in only a few seconds.

If you're familiar with Lenox, Missouri, you know it's in the middle of a heavily-wooded remote area in the south-central part of the state. It's not that far from Fort Leonard Wood, but not near any major cities or airports.

Even if he was close to a metro area, there's no known aircraft that can travel as fast as he described with sudden changes of direction. By definition, he saw a UFO over Missouri. What it was remains anyone's guess.

Swedish research reports on UFOs have been published: "Is a bit scary"

Updated: October 24, 2025 21:22

Here are the Swedish research reports on UFOs that have now been published.

According to Stockholm University, the results are "unexpected".

"It's a bit scary," says researcher Beatriz Villarroel.

"Researchers at Nordita, Stockholm University, together with international colleagues at Vanderbilt University, have published two new studies showing that historical astronomical observations contain unexpected patterns."

This is what it says in the press release from Stockholm University, where researchers have analysed flashes of light on astronomical plates from the early 1950s.

There they have found statistical correlations between the timing of the flashes of light, nuclear weapons tests and reports of unidentified flying objects.

"We see a hundred thousand flashes of light on old photo plates before 1956, before the first human satellite. These show a correlation in time with UFO events and nuclear tests.

A third disappear in the Earth's shadow, which means that they come from real objects in orbit around the Earth. These objects must be flat and highly reflective, such as mirrors or glass.

Only such objects can produce such flashes of light," says researcher Beatriz Villarroel at Nordita, who belongs to Stockholm University and KTH.

Approved and published

TV4 News has previously reported on when Beatriz Villarroel and her research colleagues were studying this – but now the results have been published.

"What is new is that the results have been reviewed in two independent scientific journals, approved after the review processes and published," she says.

Stockholm University believes that the results are unexpected. The researchers have analysed over 100,000 images of space, taken between 1949 and 1956, i.e. a time before space was filled with satellites and debris.

"Hard to believe that we are alone"

She believes that this is a stigmatized topic and critics have said that it "may just be crap on the plate".

But during the course of her work, she has come to the conclusion that the dots are flat artificial objects that reflect light. Beatriz Villarroel describes the feelings.

"When you see the number and how they disappear in the shadow of the earth, it was a bit scary," she says.

Can you tell there are aliens?

"Considering that what we see appears to be artificial objects in circulation and it is not ours, I find it hard to believe that we are alone.
