Moar curiosities in CA redistricting special election: Dropping mail-in ballots in the mail on Nov 4, in areas where the most Trump supporters live, may be postmarked the NEXT day, meaning it won't be counted

In Prop 50, Newscum is taking the power to redistrict in CA away from a bi-partisan redistricting commission, established by a CA Constitutional amendment, until after the census in 2030 (i.e., grabbing up to 5 Democrat seats away from existing Republicans for the next 3 U.S. House of Representative elections), then giving it back to the state's independent commmission established by Constitutional amendment in California voted on by the people.

Latest development

A GOP mailer to CA Anon advised, if mailing in your vote, make sure to drop your ballot in the mail by Nov 4, and that "Mail Ballots postmarked by November 4, 2025 –will be accepted - 7 days past Election Day."

But wait!= All of a sudden, getting a postmark on the same day you drop a piece of mail into a U.S. Mailbox is not guaranteed for the more rural parts of Caifornia - where the vast majority of California Republicans live== (based on the large red swaths of California who voted for President Trump in the last election). See pic.

"Due tochanges to mailservicethis year,= people living more than 50 miles from a U.S. Postal Service regional mail processing hub who drop off their ballot in a mailbox or at a post office on Election Day won’t have a guarantee that their ballot will be postmarked that same day. Instead, it could be postmarked the day aftertoo late for the ballot to count.=="

Background

"California is one of eight states, along with Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, Montana, New York and Washington, that use independent commissions to draw congressional districts, in an effort to prevent gerrymandering by elected officials.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission was established with the passage of Proposition 11, also known as the "Voters FIRST Act" in 2008. In 2010, a constitutional amendment extended the commission’s responsibilities from drawing state legislative districts to include House seats.'''

'''The voter-backed commission emerged from decades of redistricting conflict in the state, according to McGhee.

Under Prop 50, the legislatively drawn congressional district maps would be used for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 congressional elections.'''

"The newly drawn temporary map, which could potentially lead to five additional Democratic seats in the House, would expire after the 2030 census, when the commission would resume its authority to draw congressional districts.
