Am given to understand a surplus USAAF airfield was repurposed as a marketplace to serve ranchers in the area in one of the Western States. Think WalMart in old hangers that also sells barbed wire
Problem #1: Am also given to understand airfield did not have name other than something like "Auxiliary Field" with some number designation as it was not a primary USAAF base, but constructed for Emergency landings of maybe B-29 aircraft
My getter smoother with age brain tells me there would be some kind of rail line going to the place for replacement parts and ordnance for Training Missions on flight returns to Main Airfield but considering the advancement during WW2 when Excavation Equipment got a boost cannot be sure
From a Business stand point a rail connection would beat long haul and bad roads trucking
So, I understand this place was started to take advantage of ranchers more willing to do a 30-45 minute flight in the Cessnas they own versus the 2-3 hour pick-up truck drive
I know it's getting Late on Halloween night, but who better to ask than anons?
