In the latest blow to Democrats from the recent 'Epstein files' released by House Republicans, former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers announced that he's stepping back from public commitments after new documents reveal he was asking for Jeffrey Epstein's advice on how to bang a female mentee behind his wife's back.

Summers - who was Bill Clinton's Treasury Secretary and later president of Harvard University, repeatedly messaged Epstein about a woman codenamed "peril" in 2018 and 2019.

In one January 2019 text exchange, Summers told Epstein that the woman was unlikely to leave him due to his position of power and the professional connections that might come with it - to which Epstein replied, "She is doomed to be with you."

"Think for now I’m going nowhere with her except economics mentor," Summers wrote in November 2018. "I think I’m right now in the seen very warmly in rear view mirror category."

Ukraine is being rocked by a $100 million corruption scandal involving government officials close to Volodymyr Zelensky, amid the Ukrainian president's efforts to secure European funding and new warplanes for the war against Russia, Le Monde reports Monday.

Timur Mindich, a close associate and former business partner of Zelensky, has been accused by Ukraine's western-backed National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) of involvement in a $100 million embezzlement scheme involving the state-owned nuclear energy firm Energoatom.

As part of the investigation, anti-corruption authorities raided the luxury apartments of Ukrainian politicians in Kiev, one of which had a gold toilet, photos of backpacks full of cash, and audio documents of officials discussing money laundering strategies.

The EU leadership continues to stand by Zelensky but is pressing him to resolve the corruption issue to help sidestep criticism from EU politicians who oppose further military aid to Ukraine and its accession to the bloc, the French newspaper wrote. France is among those EU nations reportedly demanding that Zelensky swiftly resolve the issue.

"They know very well what our expectations are," a source at the French presidency told the Le Monde ahead of Zelensky's arrival in Paris to seek military support from French President Emmanuel Macron.

France is urging "transparency" and emphasizing "seriousness" in ending corruption, the source stated.

While in Paris, Zelensky signed a deal with Macron that will see Ukraine purchase additional weapons, including 100 Rafale fighter jets over ten years.

A train track linking the Polish cities of Warsaw and Lublin was destroyed in an "unprecedented act of sabotage" on Sunday. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared that the now damaged railway is "crucially important for delivering aid to Ukraine." In invoking Ukraine aid, he's clearly letting suspicion fall on Moscow - though no arrests have been made in the early investigation. But photos suggest it's only a very small section of track left missing and subject to damage. And yet this could indeed be enough to derail a train.

An "explosive device" blew up the rail track, Tusk stated X. He followed by decrying that the act "directly (targeted) the security of the Polish state and its civilians." Apparently there was more damage even beyond this, with destruction located further down the line as well.

"Unfortunately, the worst suspicions were confirmed. An act of sabotage occurred on the Warsaw-Lublin line (in the village of Mika). An explosive device detonated and destroyed the railway track," Tusk said.

A delegation from the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DR Congo) mines ministry has survived a plane crash in the country’s southern Lualaba Province, according to the authorities.

The aircraft, carrying Congolese Mines Minister Louis Watum Kabamba and his officials, veered off the runway and caught fire while landing at Kolwezi Airport on Monday, the minister’s spokesperson Isaac Nyembo told local reporters at the scene.

“Fortunately, we all got out, even though our luggage remained on board,” the spokesperson added.

According to data from the Switzerland-based Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archive (BAAA), which tracks global aviation crashes, 26 passengers and three crew members were aboard the chartered Embraer jet.

“All 29 occupants…escaped without injuries before the airplane would be destroyed by fire,” BAAA stated.

At least 32 people have died after a bridge collapsed at a mine in the southeastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), local authorities reported on Sunday.

The incident occurred on Saturday at the Kalando copper and cobalt site in Lualaba Province, as a large number of miners tried to cross a makeshift bridge to access the mine, according to the providence’s interior minister, Roy Kaumba Mayonde.

“Despite the strict prohibition on accessing the site due to heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides, illegal diggers forced their way into the quarry,” Mayonde told reporters.

Several people fell into the “deep” water-filled trench, the minister said, adding that search operations are ongoing to find those trapped. The provincial authorities temporarily suspended operations at the site following the disaster, citing security reasons.

According to a statement by the Congolese government’s Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Support and Guidance Service (SAEMAPE), cited by multiple outlets, gunfire from soldiers at the site sparked panic among the miners. A former Halifax taxi driver who avoided real jail time for sexually assaulting a female passenger is now facing new criminal charges for allegedly breaking the rules designed to track high-risk offenders.

Marwan Al Ali, 53, has been charged with three breaches of the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA), with prosecutors alleging he failed to meet required reporting obligations on Feb. 14, April 3 and June 22 of this year.

Al Ali was convicted in January 2024 for assaulting a young woman he picked up downtown in 2022. The court heard he repeatedly stopped the cab, pressured her to move to the front seat, aggressively asked to touch her hair, and ultimately kissed and groped her without consent.

He received a six-month conditional sentence, 18 months’ probation, and a 20-year SOIRA order, meaning he must register with police and update them on his address, employment, and other personal information.

He was arraigned on the new charges on Oct. 20, and the case returns to court on Dec. 18. A conviction for breaching SOIRA carries the possibility of jail time, and a significantly tougher penalty than he received for the original assault.

Cody High School in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, by school principal Alex Lambert because he spoke out against gender-confused youth who “take their hatred of Christians” to another level by committing violent acts against them.

Many in his community, which is located in a traditionally conservative area of Alberta, rallied to support Johannesson and even had a GiveSendGo campaign for him at one point.

Last month, Alberta had municipal elections province-wide, and Johannesson ran for a seat on the Sylvan Lake town council. After the results were tallied, he won a seat on the council, noting how he ran for office to fight against the creep of the woke agenda on society.

Johannesson said that he ran for the same council four years ago “purely on an anti-vaccine platform,” saying he was “pissed off at the mandates.”

He said he decided to run for town council as a Christian conservative so he could share his pro-family beliefs with people in the town, so “everyone knows who I am and what my beliefs, morals, and values are, so that way, if I get elected, I could just keep being that way.” Continue…

Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government is drafting legislation to publicize parts of the sex offender registry and that he will use the notwithstanding clause if the courts try to block it.

The government’s preliminary consultations are beginning on changes that Ford said will ensure children are protected from sex offenders by making sex offender registry information public. Ford’s announcement comes after an Oct. 31 Supreme Court of Canada decision that ruled mandatory minimum one-year sentences for child exploitation convictions are “unconstitutional.”

“(If) you have a sex offender and he’s living next door down the street, and you have a bunch of kids, you want to know about it,” Ford said Nov. 17 in Toronto. “So we’re going to make sure the sex offender registry is out there, public.”

It is not clear if Ford is planning operational, legislative, or regulatory changes, but he said the notwithstanding clause will be used if the courts reject them, something he thinks they will “probably” do. Continue…

Cervical cancer rates in Canada have levelled off after years of decline, despite the country’s objective to eradicate the disease by 2040, a new report suggests.

Cervical cancer rates had been on a steady decline from 1984 until 2005, but the report published by the Canadian Cancer Society indicates “a concerning plateau” over the past two decades. The shift means the country is no longer advancing in its efforts to eliminate the disease, the report says.

An estimated 1,650 Canadians will be diagnosed with cervical cancer this year and 430 will lose their battle with a disease that can be prevented, the report says. It suggests the trend is driven by increased transmission of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted infection known to cause cervical cancer as well as lower vaccination and screening rates, and gaps in follow-up care.

“This shift in trend is more than a statistical change—it’s a signal that we need to pay closer attention,” Canadian Cancer Society director of surveillance Dr. Jennifer Gillis said in a Nov. 17 press release. “Cervical cancer is one of the only cancers we can eliminate, and it’s almost entirely preventable through HPV vaccination and effective cervical screening.”

​​Canada has established a target to eradicate cervical cancer domestically by 2040 to align with a World Health Organization goal of lowering rates to less than four instances diagnosed per 100,000 females by 2030, the agency said.

The plateau in cervical cancer rates in the past 20 years, however, may mean Canada is no longer on track to achieve its 2040 goal. Continue…
