A treaty announced yesterday with the Kitsumkalum gives away massive amounts of money, land, and power without ANY surrender of the Kitsumkalum’s claims to ongoing aboriginal title. That means British Columbians pay dearly but the tribe can keep coming back for more.
And of course, BC’s NDP and Conservative parties are both celebrating the deal.
Only OneBC will fight to protect BC’s future.
What the Kitsumkalum treaty includes:
•$158 million in cash from taxpayers
•46,050 hectares of formerly Crown and privately-owned land – that’s 4x the size of the City of Vancouver
•Control over vast lands and resources, including all subsurface resources under the transferred lands, management control over public parks, the rights to allocate 50,000 million cubic metres per year of water, and much, much more.
There is no obligation to treat non-indigenous members fairly in the management of the transferred money, land, or power.
As I’ve been saying, Cowichan is only the beginning.
We need to immediately suspend all talks with indigenous tribes about transfers of money, land, or power. We need to immediately repeal the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), which directs governments to voluntarily sacrifice provincial sovereignty and resources.
And, ultimately, we need to demand an amendment removing aboriginal title from the constitution, so that the property rights of all Canadians stand on a firm and equal footing.
These land, money, and power grabs in the name of reconciliation are an existential threat to the survival of our province. No matter how well-intended they may have been at first, it is simply not possible to go down this path without bankrupting citizens and shattering the province into dozens of disfunctional ethnostates. Join us as we fight for a future in which every citizen has an equal opportunity to prosper. One BC. One law for all.
