The police said that of those charged, 20 have appeared in court to face charges of possession, distribution, and access to files that contained child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

Police also said they seized computer equipment for analysis during 26 searches.

U.S. President Donald Trump will host Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House on Nov. 10, in the first visit by a Syrian leader to Washington.

The meeting comes six months after Trump and Sharaa met in Saudi Arabia and days after the United Nations and the United States lifted terrorism-related sanctions on the Syrian leader.

Sharaa took office in December 2024 after the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad, following a 13-year civil war that ended with a victory by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) means Organization for the Liberation of Syria in Arabic. It began as al-Nusra Front, an affiliate of al-Qaeda, the Islamist terrorist group founded by Osama bin Laden. The group was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department in 2018, but it was removed from the list this year.

Last December, the United States dropped a $10 million counter-terror bounty against Sharaa, who was previously known as Abu Mohammad al-Golani. The decision coincided with a U.S. diplomatic visit to Syria on Dec. 20, 2024.

A now-deleted bounty notice against Sharaa notes his role in founding the Nusra Front and leading the group through its reorganization into HTS. The bounty notice further stated that the group had taken part in kidnappings and killings in Syria over the years, including the 2015 slayings of 20 Druze villagers in the Idlib province.

Last week, the U.N. Security Council lifted terror-related sanctions designations on him and Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab.

Ukrainians living in the US have been cut off from food benefits after the administration of President Donald Trump redefined eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

Around 300,000 Ukrainians currently reside in the US, the director of the Hope for Ukraine charity fund, Yury Boyechko, told All Rise News. He noted that most of them have been receiving SNAP benefits, which provide monthly payments of around $210 per person, or $1,000 per family with children.

Boyechko said refugees began receiving official letters in late October warning that SNAP would be restricted to US citizens, lawful permanent residents, Cubans and Haitians, and individuals residing under a Compact of Free Association. The letters stated that recipients outside these categories would be disqualified from the program.

The change stems from Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ signed in July, which reduced federal payments to individuals living in the US under temporary protected status or humanitarian parole, which had been given out to many Ukrainians who entered the country since 2022. Continue…

The City of Winnipeg spent nearly $35,000 producing a podcast that hardly anyone listens to.

According to documents obtained by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF), the city’s podcast cost $34,994 to produce despite attracting only 81 subscribers across platforms.

The show, launched in 2022, was meant to “engage residents and share city stories.” But CTF Prairie Director Gage Haubrich said it’s a classic example of bureaucratic vanity projects burning through public money:

“It’s ridiculous that taxpayers are being forced to fund a podcast that barely anyone listens to,” Haubrich told the CTF newsroom. “If the city has a message, they should use existing media or social media — not waste tens of thousands of dollars trying to be influencers.”

The city justified the expense by citing “staff time” and “contracted production services.” But critics say those funds could have been better spent addressing core municipal priorities like road repair or public safety.

Despite its low reach, City Hall hasn’t ruled out continuing the project — leaving taxpayers wondering how many more “episodes” they’ll be forced to finance.

According to a November 7, 2025 response from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada to Written Question Q-353, tabled by Conservative MP Warren Steinley (Regina—Lewvan), the department’s modelling shows two scenarios of possible fallout from Beijing’s new tariffs:

A 10% drop in canola prices would reduce farm cash receipts and net cash income by about $500 million in the first year and $1.1 billion in the second year.

A 25% drop in prices, combined with some farmers switching from canola to wheat, would cut farm revenues by roughly $1.2 billion in year one and $3 billion in year two.

Officials stressed these were “illustrative scenarios” rather than firm projections, acknowledging that the real impact could be higher or lower depending on global markets and shifting trade flows.

The analysis confirms that Saskatchewan, which produces more than half of Canada’s canola, would take the hardest hit. Alberta and Manitoba would also face steep revenue losses.

China recently imposed tariffs of 76% on canola seed and 100% on canola oil, meal, and peas, escalating a trade dispute that threatens one of Canada’s most valuable export sectors — worth $12.5 billion annually.

The department said it’s “difficult to isolate” the effect of a single tariff given the influence of global soybean markets, but its own numbers suggest Prairie farm income could tumble by billions if the measures remain in place.

The tariffs are in retaliation for Canada’s duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles — protectionist measures meant to shield the heavily subsidized EV industry in Ontario and Quebec, even at the expense of Western Canada’s export-driven farm economy.

Clark, a former CTV and Global News host, was appointed by the Trudeau government as Canada’s Consul General in New York in 2023. “Investing in a clean future is both a moral imperative and the greatest commercial opportunity of our time,” the strategy reads. “As the world moves toward net zero, Canada’s climate competitiveness will define Canada’s leadership on the world stage. By 2035, the clean technology market will triple, and demand for clean electricity will double. To compete, Canada’s investment must keep pace.”

Wrapped in patriotic rhetoric about “Canada Strong,” the plan promises to “catalyse over $1 trillion in investment over the next five years, driving growth in nuclear, hydro, wind, energy storage, and grid infrastructure to make Canada a leader in the low-carbon economy.”

Among the taxpayer-funded titles are a book defending communism, a socialist manifesto on “revolutionary strategy,” and a poetry collection lamenting capitalism and climate change.

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is blasting the federal and provincial governments of Canada, Manitoba, and Nova Scotia for funnelling more than $528,000 in taxpayer money to Fernwood Publishing—a company that proudly declares itself “politically driven, not profit driven.”

“It’s wrong for taxpayers to be on the hook for publishing houses pushing fringe political propaganda,” said Devin Drover, the CTF’s Atlantic Director. “If people don’t want to actually buy a book, taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to pay for it.”

According to the CTF, Fernwood received $306,900 from the federal government between 2020 and 2024, plus $135,000 from Nova Scotia through its Publishers Assistance Fund in 2024. The company also collected $86,250 from Manitoba since 2020 under the province’s Publisher Marketing Assistance Program.

Meanwhile, Manitoba alone spends about $114,000 each year on subsidies to book publishers for marketing.

Fernwood Publishing, which operates out of Halifax and Winnipeg, says its political approach allows it to publish “radical analysis” and “contribute to structural change”.

Recent titles include Red Flags: A Reckoning with Communism for the Future of the Left, which explores what it calls “the uneasy truths the left needs to confront if it is to build a genuinely liberatory alternative to capitalism.” Despite heavy public funding, the book currently ranks #472 in “Communist & Socialist Ideologies” and has no reviews on Amazon.ca.

Other Fernwood releases include I’ll Get Right On It, a collection of poems about “working life in the climate crisis,” and Openings and Closures: Socialist Strategy at a Crossroads, which discusses how socialists should act in 2025.

“If a business is explicitly ‘not profit driven,’ taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for that bad business plan,” said Gage Haubrich, the CTF’s Prairie Director. “Publishers should make their money by selling books people want to read, not getting handouts from three different levels of government.”

The CTF argues governments should stop using taxpayer dollars to subsidize ideological activism disguised as culture, especially when ordinary Canadians are struggling with inflation and record-high taxes.

Sea otters in British Columbia have been found to be contaminated with “forever chemicals,” according to a recent study whose authors say was the first to do this type of research in the marine mammal in the province.

Researchers from the University of British Columbia (UBC) say they have identified PFAS in sea otters around coastal B.C. PFAS is short for perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. They are a class of thousands of extremely persistent human-made substances that are deemed harmful to humans and the environment, according to Environment Canada.

Published on Nov. 4, the research analyzed liver and skeletal muscle samples from 11 dead sea otters that had been recovered along the B.C. coastline between 2016 and 2021. It found “eight of 40 tested PFAS chemicals present in every otter, with seven found only in the liver,” a Nov. 5 UBC news release said.

The researchers say concentration of the substances were on average three times higher in otters found near major cities and shipping routes around B.C.’s coast, such as Victoria and Tofino. Continue…

Health Canada says it has seized multiple “unauthorized” health products, including ivermectin, from a B.C. business whose owner says the products can treat serious medical conditions, such as cancer.

The department carried out an inspection of Ezra Healing in Kelowna, B.C., on Oct. 30, it told The Epoch Times in a Nov. 7 email. It said the inspection was in response to allegations of non-compliance with the Food and Drugs Act and associated regulations.

Health Canada said it seized “a range of unauthorized prescription drugs” during the inspection, such as ivermectin, mebendazole, hydroxychloroquine, and azithromycin.

Ezra Healing owner Svetlana Rilkoff filmed a video during the inspection, which was posted to social media, saying the ivermectin that Health Canada wanted to seize was “healing cancer and vaccine injuries.”

Health Canada published a public advisory on Nov. 6 warning Canadians to “immediately stop using any products obtained from Ezra Healing.”

According to an internal IRCC email from April 2025, which was originally reported on by Blacklock’s Reporter, an employee said there were “sensitivities” related to promoting “free” services for newcomers on social media.

Canadians from coast-to-coast will pause on Nov. 11 to pay tribute to the veterans who have fought for their country.

Services are planned across the nation but the National Remembrance Day Ceremony in Ottawa is undoubtedly the most-watched of all of the ceremonies.

The event begins with a veterans’ march at 10:30 a.m. to the National War Memorial. The ceremony starts at approximately 10:45 a.m. EST with the arrival of Gov. Gen. Mary Simon, Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the Silver Cross Mother, a woman whose child has died while serving in the military.

This year’s Silver Cross Mother is Nancy Payne, whose 32-year-old son Corp. Randy Payne was killed in a roadside bombing in Afghanistan in April 2006.

The event hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion will include a two-minute silence to pay tribute to all who have served, a 21-gun salute, the laying of wreaths, prayers, and a flypast by the Royal Canadian Air Force. The veterans’ march-off will conclude the ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

“At the end of the National Ceremony and throughout the day, people remove poppies from their coats and place them on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,” the Legion said. “The tomb is covered in red poppies by the end of the day.” Continue…

“It’s not one round of projects, and then we move forward with those. This is a living list,” Carney said, noting that the next round of projects will be made public on Nov. 13.

Okanagan-based non-profit Critteraid dealing with an outbreak of avian influenza at its pet and pasture animal facility

An animal rescue organization in the Okanagan has revealed an avian flu outbreak at its sanctuary.

Critteraid, based in Summerland, cares for a wide range of pets and farm animals, including cats, dogs, goats, pigs, horses, chickens and ducks. The pets taken in are often adopted out while the pasture animals are permanent residents.

“Over the past few days, our sanctuary family has been facing one of the most heartbreaking experiences in our history,” the non-profit organization said on Facebook.

“We are navigating a situation that has required immediate action, co-ordination with veterinary professionals, federal (CFIA) regulatory authorities, Interior Health and epidemiological divisions as we had (a) positive case of H5N1 at our sanctuary.”

Remembrance Day has been commemorated in Canada since Parliament passed legislation in 1931 to change the name of Armistice Day and establish Nov. 11 as the date to mark the occasion. Today, the government describes Remembrance Day as “the most unforgettable day” and suggests veterans are “passing the torch” to the Canadian population “so the memory of their sacrifices will continue.”

However, many veterans of the war in Afghanistan now feel their sacrifice in service to their country is forgotten. One main reason for this sentiment, according to retired corporal Bruce Moncur, is that no veterans of this conflict have ever been awarded Canada’s highest military decoration for valour.

Retired lieutenant-general Omer Lavoie told National Post that eight service members throughout the Commonwealth have received Victoria Cross medals for their service in Afghanistan. Four have been awarded by Australia, three by the U.K., and one by New Zealand.

That no Victoria Cross decorations were received throughout a 12-year commitment during which more than 40,000 Canadian military members deployed for the mission does not sit well with many Afghanistan veterans, Moncur said.

“Yes, we feel forgotten,” he said.

He is part of a campaign to have certain valour awards reviewed and potentially upgraded to the Victoria Cross in response to this prevalent sense of forgotten sacrifice.

Moncur, who deployed to Afghanistan in 2006, says he has advocated for military veterans for about 15 years. As founder of the non-profit Valour in the Presence of the Enemy, he has spearheaded a campaign since September 2021 to have Afghanistan veteran Private Jess Larochelle’s valour decoration upgraded to the Victoria Cross.
