Germany’s cities are on the verge of a massive financial crisis, with the mayor of Essen warning that the data shows that almost every single city in the country is nearly bankrupt.

Currently, the total deficit for all German cities in 2025 is €30 billion, which jumped from last year’s deficit of €24 billion.

Essen’s Mayor Thomas Kufen (CDU), who is also a member of the CDU federal executive board, is sounding the alarm: “Almost every German city is now on the verge of bankruptcy.”

In North Rhine-Westphalia alone, only 10 out of 396 cities and municipalities can present a balanced budget, and these alarming figures from Germany’s largest federal state can be applied to the “entire country,” he said.

Brussels has put forward its own conditions for an end to hostilities

The EU has reportedly rejected the Ukraine peace deal drafted by the White House, putting forward its own set of conditions for a potential agreement.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen made the announcement on Sunday as US officials were discussing Washington’s proposal with EU and Ukrainian representatives in Geneva, Switzerland.

The US had submitted its plan to both Moscow and Kiev earlier this week. The contents of the document have not been officially disclosed to the public.

Media outlets have claimed that, among other things, it calls upon Kiev to withdraw troops from the part of Russia’s Donbass it still controls, downsize its military, and shelve its NATO aspirations in exchange for Western security guarantees.

In a statement published on X, von der Leyen specifically rejected all those conditions. “We have agreed on the main elements necessary for a just and lasting peace and Ukraine's sovereignty,” she stated, adding that Ukraine’s borders cannot be changed “by force” and that no limitations can be placed on Kiev’s military.

The Nova Scotia branch of the RCMP Veterans Association sent an email advertising a presentation on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). The email, leaked to Canadian war veteran and podcaster Kelsi Sheren by a 32-year police veteran, left the veteran feeling “deeply disturbed.”

The email was sent on Tuesday and invited members to a free presentation that organizers said “may interest many” and discussed MAiD. Debbie Cameron, who joined other protesters at a rally for farmers Saturday in Ottawa, told The Post Millennial that an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer tried to intimidate her with a bizarre text message that left her speechless.

Farmers and their supporters came out by the thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, to 26 locations across Canada, at cities like Vancouver and Toronto as well as the capital in Ottawa and at smaller communities like Courtenay, BC and Enfield Big Stop, NS. The Farmer’s Protest Canada was provoked by the lingering outrage over the killing of hundreds of ostriches by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on Nov. 5-6 at Universal Ostrich Farms in Edgewood, BC. The Canadian lobby group, that doubles as a charity, is pushing for the assisted dying of minors.

Dying with Dignity Canada (DWDC) says it's a "national human-rights charity" that works to "improve quality of dying, protect end of dying rights, and help people across Canada avoid unwanted suffering."

According to DWDC, medical assisted dying (MAID) should be allowed for "mature minors."

Per an article on MAID for minors, "mature minors" are individuals under 18 who "understand information relevant to a treatment decision and can appreciate the reasonably foreseeable consequences of a decision or lack of decision.”

Currently, to be eligible for MAID in Canada, a patient must qualify for health services federally or provincially, be 18 years or older and mentally competent, have a "grievous and irremediable medical condition”, make a voluntary request, and get informed consent.

On Holodomor Memorial Day, Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre commemorated the deaths of millions of Ukrainians from starvation due to Soviet policies in the 1930s.

The Holodomor, a Ukrainian word meaning “death from starvation,” refers to the massive famine in Ukraine from 1932–1933, in which an estimated 4 million people died as a result of Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin’s collectivization of farms.

In 2008, Canada established the fourth Saturday in November each year as Holodomor Memorial Day, saying the famine was “an act of genocide.”

Carney called it a “genocide” by Stalin’s regime in a Nov. 22 statement.

Speaking on a panel at the Halifax International Security Forum (HFX) on Nov. 22, Thom Tillis, a Republican senator from North Carolina, said he has a “serious frustration” with NATO countries that failed to meet the minimum spending goal of 2 percent of their GDP on defence over the last 20 years. The consequence, he said, is a $2 trillion shortfall, with “$300 billion from Canada alone.”

“It’s fine to say you’re about to catch up, but it’s not fun to look past a $300 billion shortfall,” Tillis told a morning panel. “Can we do a makeup payment for the 20 years of shortfalls as well?”
