Trump Media blasts Jack Smith for subpoenaing bank records

Nunes said TMTG was one of the 400 Trump-aligned individuals and organizations that Smith "spied on" in his probes, and that Smith's team issued a "shockingly broad, secret subpoena for our banking records."

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) CEO Devin Nunes on Wednesday night blasted former Special Counsel JackSmith for subpoenaing the company's bank recordsas part of his probe into President Donald Trump.

Nunes saidTMTG was one of the 400 Trump-aligned individuals and organizations that Smith "spied on" in his probes, andthat Smith's team issued a "shockingly broad, secret subpoena for our banking records."

"This is a stunning abuse of poweragainst a private business and our hundreds of thousands of retail investors, especially since Trump Media did not even exist at the time of the events Jack Smith was supposedly investigating," Nunes posted on Truth Social.

"We now need to know what the [Securities and Exchange Commission] and J.P. Morgan knew about this blatant malfeasance, when did they know it,and whether anyone leaked our bank records."

Smith led two criminal investigations into Trump during the Biden administration, including into allegations that Trump mishandled classified documents and that his actions on January 6, 2021, were an attempt to overturn the 2020 election.

The president was never convicted of crimes in either case.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, key architect of war on terror and Trump outcast, dies at age 84

Cheney suffered from heart disease for decades and fell out of favor in the Trump era.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney, who advised presidents from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush and was a key architect of the war on terror, has died at the age of 84, his family announced Tuesday.

"His beloved wife of 61 years, Lynne, his daughters, Liz and Mary, and other family members were with him as he passed,” his family said in the statement.

Cheney suffered from heart disease for decades and fell out of favor among many Republicans in the Trump era, even famously casting a vote in the 2024 election for Democrat Kamala Harris after a long feud with America's 47th president.

But for decades he was at the pinnacle of Washington's power structure as a White House chief of staff to President Gerald Ford, a Wyoming congressman who defended Ronald Reagan during the Iran-Contra scandal, and the defense secretary to George H. W. Bush who helped lead America into the first Gulf War against Iraq's Saddam Hussein alongside Gen. Colin Powell.

It was his service as vice president to the younger Bush that earned him the title of America's most powerful second in command, famously huddling in the basement of the White House to architect America's response to Al-Qaeda's devastating terror attack on America on September 11, 2001.

Cheney proved an unabashed champion of America acting as the world's policing superpower, becoming the face of the neo-conservative movement inside the Republican Party.

But it was that advocacy for relentless military power that led him into controversy and eventual disfavor with the public and the GOP, both of which tired of the endless wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Cheney left office in 2009 with a popularity rating of just 31%, marred by the revelations that he pushed the United States into a second war with Iraq on the pretense that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction that were never found and that U.S. intelligence agencies waterboarded terrorist prisoners.

Eldest daughter Liz, an attorney, was a Wyoming congresswoman from 2017 to 2023, after serving in the George W. Bush State Department. While in Congress, she supported President Trump's agenda during his first term but supported the second impeachment of him following the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Her position on the House Select Committee on the riot and outspoken criticism of Trump resulted in the Wyoming Republican Party in 2021 revoking her membership. Cheney was also censured by the Republican National Committee and lost reelection in 2022. She also endorsed Harris for president.

During Cheney's reelection bid, her father ran a 60-second ad in which he said nobody in the history of America has been "a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump." He also called Trump a "coward" for his response to losing his 2020 reelection bid.

Former President George W. Bush, whose vice president was Dick Cheney, was among the first to offer praise and condolences on the death of Cheney, whose family on Tuesday morning announced his death.

"The death of Richard B. Cheney is a loss to the nation and a sorrow to his friends," he said in a statement. Former first lady Laura Bush "and I will remember Dick Cheney for the decent, honorable man that he was. History will remember him as among the finest public servants of his generation – a patriot who brought integrity, high intelligence, and seriousness of purpose to every position he held.

"For those two terms in office, and throughout his remarkable career, Dick Cheney's service always reflected credit on the country he loved. Dick's love for America was second only to his family. Laura and I have shared our deepest sympathies with Vice President Cheney's wife Lynne and their daughters and granddaughters of whom he was so deeply proud. We are praying for Lynne, Liz, Mary, and the Cheney family as they honor a great man."

Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., posted on X on Tuesday regarding the former vice president's death, saying, "Dick Cheney was a giant in American politics, and his impact will be felt for decades. My condolences to the Cheney family as we remember the legacy of our 46th Vice President."

Israeli President Isaac Herzog mourned Cheney's passing in a post on X, saying, “I heard with great sorrow of the passing of former U.S. Vice PresidentDick Cheney, a great friend and steadfast supporter of the State of Israel.

My deepest condolences to his family and to the American people.”

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Tuesday regarding the former vice president, "Dick Cheney was an extraordinary public servant. You're right, President George W. Bush relied on Dick Cheney for virtually everything, he trusted him deeply.

"And I gotta say, Dick Cheney was someone who, at 34 years old, he was chief of staff to President Gerald Ford, he became secretary of defense under President Bush, 41, and then, of course, vice president under Bush 43. He was a man who was serious, he was a man who was dedicated to keeping this country safe, and he was vice president when 9/11 happened. And the seriousness with which he took that America would defeat radical Islamic terrorists, was extraordinary. He was up early, early every morning, 4, 5 a.m., every morning, and working diligently to keep Americans safe," Cruz continued.

"There are Americans who are alive today because of just how vigorously he pursued our enemies. And my condolences, my prayers are with the entire Cheney family, who are losing their patriarch and losing a public servant who made a real difference."
