Thune "Willing To Give Democrats All The Things They Want" As Friday Shutdown Vote Looms

The Senate will vote for a 15th time today on a short-term funding bill to reopen the government - with a growing number of Republicans indicating that they're open to caving over Affordable Care Act enhanced subsidies.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) is offering Democrats post-shutdown votes on ACA and tax credits in an attempt to win Democratic support and end the standoff, which is now in its 37th day.

"I'm willing to give Democrats all the things they want," Thune said Friday.

The comments come after Democratic support for a deal to reopen the government has failed over such promises - with Senate dems rejecting a Thursday proposal to pass a continuing resolution to three full-year appropriations bills that would fund military construction, veterans' affairs, the Department of Agriculture and the legislative branch.

Democratic senators discussed the proposal at a party luncheon and concluded that it didn't provide strong enough assurances that Trump and the GOP-controlled house would renew the pandemic-era (short term) ACA subsidies set to expire in January.

Thune needs at least eight Democrats to cross the aisle in order to reopen the government - and is five short of what he needs.

"I trust John Thune, but here’s a fact: It’s beyond his control if we … get an enforceable agreement, because we have to get buy-in from the House of Representatives," said Sen. Peter Welch (D-VT), who's been part of talks to end the shutdown, noting that he doesn't trust House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to stick to any deals.

Meanwhile, President Trump reiterated his call for Senate R's to end the filibuster.

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) says Trump refused to stick to the deal Senate Republicans negotiated during the 2018-2019 shutdown triggered by a fight over the US-Mexico border wall and immigration policy.

"We had a bipartisan negotiation to solve the problem, came up with a bill — Sen. [Susan] Collins [R-Maine] was involved — and, at the very last minute, President Trump pulled out the rug out from under all the negotiators and said, ‘There’ll be no bill,’" Durbin said.

Trump Files Emergency Appeal To Block Full Release Of SNAP Funds

The Trump administration on Friday filed an emergency request with the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals to immediately block an order that requires them to distribute full November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamp, benefits to be paid to the states by Friday.

"This is a crisis, to be sure, but it is a crisis occasioned by congressional failure, and that can only be solved by congressional action," the DOJ wrote in its motion, calling the lower court's order "unprecedented" and that it "makes "a mockery of the separation of powers."

The DOJ is asking for a ruling by Friday afternoon - while the 1st Circuit has ordered the cities and private organizations suing for full benefits to respond in writing by Noon ET.

On Thursday, US District Judge John McConnell (Obama) ruled that the Trump administration's plan to provide only partial payments was insufficient, and that it needed to tap other funds to make full payments, resulting in today's emergency appeal before McConnell's mandated deadline to distribute the payments to roughly 42 million recipients.

The administration says that the government shutdown effectively means there's no SNAP program, and its hands are tied until Congress passes a deal to reopen.

"Courts are charged with enforcing the law, but the law is explicit that SNAP benefits are subject to available appropriations," reads the emergency appeal. "Indeed, governing regulations contemplate that, in the event of a shortfall in funding, USDA will direct the States to reduce their benefit allotments—which is precisely what USDA did this week."

Last week, McConnell ruled that the administration had to deplete a roughly $5 billion emergency fund at minimum - which comes nowhere near to covering the cost of full November payments of around $9 billion.

The admin agreed to do this, but warned that the partial payments could mean weekslong delays as recalculations are worked out.

Obama-Appointed Judge Restricts Trump's Use Of Tear Gas, Other Anti-Riot Measures In Chicago

A federal judge has restricted the federal government’s use of tear gas and other types of anti-riot measures in Chicago.

On Thursday, Obama-appointed U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis said during a hearing that government witnesses’ claims of violence at protests in Chicago were not credible, citing several occasions where she said video recordings contradicted immigration officials’ accounts about what happened.

“The government would have people believe instead that the Chicagoland area is in a visehold of violence, ransacked by rioters, and attacked by agitators,” she said.

“That simply is untrue.”

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in a statement from a spokesperson on the ruling described protesters in the city as “rioters, gangbangers and terrorists” who pose a threat to federal agents.

“Despite these real dangers, our law enforcement shows incredible restraint in exhausting all options before force is escalated,” the DHS spokesperson said, noting that the government would appeal the decision.

The spokesperson described the injunction as “an extreme act by an activist judge that risks the lives and livelihoods of law enforcement officers.”

Several People Rushed to Hospital as Suspicious Package Filled with White Powder and ‘Political Propaganda’ Prompts Evacuation at Joint Base Andrews

Another incident involving possible left-wing violence happened at a military facility yesterday.

As CNN reported, an alarming scene unfolded at Joint Base Andrews, which houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center, when a person opened a suspicious package that contained white powder and political propaganda.

At least seven people fell ill and had to be taken to the on-base Malcolm Grove Medical Center following the opening of the package.

Two sources told CNN that the people taken to the hospital were treated for their symptoms and have since been released.

Joint Base Andrews officials released a statement stating that, despite the illnesses, no immediate threats had been detected.

“Joint Base Andrews first responders were dispatched to the scene, determined there were no immediate threats, and have turned the scene over to the Office of Special Investigations,” the statement reads.

“An investigation is currently ongoing.”

Officials did not release any details regarding the content of the political propaganda, leaving people to speculate about its nature.

One source told CNN that an initial field test conducted by a HAZMAT team did not detect any hazardous materials. Thus, it’s unclear why these people got sick.

This news comes as reports have confirmed that top Trump officials are moving into military bases near Washington, D.C., over escalating assassination fears.

These officials include Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The move comes amid heightened security fears after the September assassination of Charlie Kirk. As TGP readers know, many on the left CHEERED and LAUGHED at this brutal murder instead of condemning it.

The threats against Trump supporters from the radical left continue to this day. In fact, Democrats successfully ran a candidate in Virginia for Attorney General who fantasized about the murder of Republican children is running for office in Virginia.

With Democrats emboldened by the political violence, it’s a fair question to ask whether a Trump official, such as Hegseth, was a target in yesterday’s incident.

If such threats are not adequately dealt with, another prominent MAGA leader or elected official will be killed.

Top Iowa judge allegedly passed out drunk while driving, veered into oncoming traffic

A powerful Iowa judge was busted for driving while intoxicated after allegedly zonking out behind the wheel and drifting into oncoming traffic on a major highway, according to police and witnesses.

State Judge Adria Kester, 55, landed on the wrong side of the law after another motorist reported she “looked unconscious” and was “slumped over the steering wheel” on US Highway 30 in Boone on Tuesday night, the Des Moines Register reported.

As her new pickup truck veered across the highway’s median, a witness climbed into it through the back window and put it in park, according to a Boone County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Kester — who is chief judge of Iowa’s largest district, the Second Judicial — was “unsteady and could not walk on her own,” according to police.

Cops allegedly found “a cup with a liquid that smelled like alcohol” in her 2026 GMC Canyon Denali and saw that she had “bloodshot watery eyes and slurred speech,” according to the arrest report.

She has pleaded not guilty.

UN Security Council lifts sanctions on Syrian president

The US-drafted resolution has also removed sanctions on the country’s interior minister

The United Nations Security Council has voted in favor of a US resolution to lift sanctions on Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa ahead of his visit to Washington next week.

The US-drafted resolution on Thursday also removed sanctions on Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab. According to the Security Council’s statement, it decided that both should be “delisted from the ISIL and Al-Qaida Sanctions List.” The resolution was approved by 14 council members; only China abstained.

Al-Sharaa, who once led the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) under his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani, took control of the country after wresting control from former President Bashar Assad.

The US has been urging the 15-member Security Council to ease sanctions against Syria since al-Sharaa met US President Donald Trump in Saudi Arabia in May. It was the first encounter between the two nations’ leaders in 25 years.

Following the meeting, Trump announced a major US policy shift when he said he would lift sanctions on Syria.

Last week, US Special Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack confirmed that al-Sharaa would visit Washington, DC, next week.

During the visit, Damascus will “hopefully” join the US-led coalition to defeat Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), Barrack added. It will mark the first-ever visit by a Syrian president to the White House.

US Government Revokes 80,000 Visas

President Donald Trump and State Secretary Marco Rubio “will always put the safety and interests of the American people first,” the State Department said in a post on X.

The department said in a follow-up post that visas were revoked for reasons including support for terrorism, “actual terrorism,” criminal activity, public safety threats, and overstays.

The State Department also said that 16,000 visas were revoked in 2025 for driving under the influence of alcohol, 12,000 revoked for assault, and 8,000 revoked for theft. The nonimmigrant visa revocation numbers are from the beginning of this year.

The State Department did not offer more details regarding the revocations. The administration has maintained a conservative stance on approving visas for foreigners and has swiftly canceled visa privileges of temporary residents, including students, based on actions concerning national security.

“The Trump Administration will not hesitate to revoke visas from foreigners who undermine our laws or threaten our national security,” Tommy Pigott, the State Department’s principal deputy spokesperson, said in a Nov. 5 post on X.

Recently, the department invalidated visas of foreign nationals for publicly celebrating the assassination of popular conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

In an Oct. 14 post on X, the department said it was revoking visas of six foreigners, including a South African national who mocked Americans grieving Kirk’s death, saying, “They’re hurt that the racist rally ended in attempted martyrdom.” The other individuals were from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Mexico, and Paraguay.

“The United States has no obligation to host foreigners who wish death on Americans,” the department said, adding that it “continues to identify visa holders who celebrated the heinous assassination of Charlie Kirk.”

The Trump administration has also reduced the number of nonimmigrant visas issued to foreign nationals.

The visas are issued to foreign citizens on a temporary basis for tourism, business, medical treatment, and certain types of temporary work, while immigrant visas are for people who intend to live and work permanently in the country.

The United States had approved 897,937 nonimmigrant visas in May 2025, according to numbers from the State Department. This is down by more than 16 percent from 1,070,656 such visas issued in May 2024 under the Biden administration.

As for immigrant visas, the department issued 46,751 such visas in May 2025, down by more than 20 percent from the 58,778 issued in May last year.

Transgender Lawmaker Stacie Laughton Pleads Guilty to Child Exploitation.

Stacie Laughton, a former New Hampshire Democrat state representative, pleaded guilty in federal court this week to charges of sexual exploitation of children. The charges were brought after Laughton—who is transgender and a biological man—requested his partner, Lindsay Groves, to send explicit photos of children from the daycare where Groves worked.

Groves, who was employed at Creative Minds daycare in Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, took the photos of children during routine activities, such as bathroom breaks and nap time, and sent them to Laughton. The images were taken between May 2022 and June 2023 and included at least four sexually explicit photos of children aged three to five.

The Nashua Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a tip, leading to Laughton’s arrest in June 2023. Groves had already confessed to taking and sending the images to Laughton, who was serving as the first transgender elected to a state legislature at the time.

Laughton has a history of legal issues, including arrests for domestic violence, sexual assault, making bomb threats, and misusing emergency services. Despite this, he was elected for a second term in 2022, but unable to serve due to being jailed on stalking charges.

Here’s How Nancy Pelosi Got Filthy Rich In Congress

Democratic California Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s wealth grew by at least 2,292%, largely through stock trading, during her 37 years in Congress.

The former House speaker, who announced Thursday that she will retire from Congress in 2027, had a $2,675,036 minimum net worth in the year she began serving and a $63,996,050 minimum net worth in 2024, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation analysis of assets and liabilities listed in her congressional financial disclosures. An analysis by Quiver Quantitative estimates her current net worth more precisely at $278,760,000 million.

Pelosi’s maximum net worth in 2024 was an estimated $311,443,000, her filings show. Lawmakers did not report maximum dollar amounts in 1987, the year Pelosi served her first term.

The 85-year-old congresswoman’s portfolio nearly doubled the S&P 500’s growth in 2024, the DCNF previously reported. Her wealth prompted calls for reforming the rules on lawmakers trading stocks, as well as suspicion that she engaged in illegal insider trading based on advance knowledge about industry trends. Her office denied such claims, saying she does not personally own stocks or have prior knowledge or subsequent involvement in transactions. Her husband, Paul, manages her trades.

Pelosi’s office did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

The lawmaker announced her support for GOP-backed legislation banning stock trading among members of Congress, presidents and vice presidents in July — the same day Trump said she should be investigated over possible insider trading, the Daily Caller previously reported.

“We must have strong transparency, robust accountability and tough enforcement for financial conduct in office because the American people deserve confidence that their elected leaders are serving the public interest — not their personal portfolios,” Pelosi said.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee advanced the bill July 30.

Digital Gold vs. Physical Gold

Digital gold offers convenience, not control. You can buy fractions of an ounce in seconds, yet what you hold is a claim on gold, not the metal itself.

Physical gold eliminates counterparty risk. Coins and bars don’t depend on servers, passwords or promises to retain value.

Privacy remains the dividing line. Every digital transaction leaves a permanent trail; physical ownership can remain completely private.

Digital gold can bridge access gaps, but it’s no replacement for the real thing.

In the long run, tangibility wins.

Banned from Israel for 10 years, US Jewish peace activist feels ‘sense of betrayal’

Leila Stillman-Utterback, 18, says her deportation for entering closed military zone to help Palestinians facing settler violence sends message that, for Israeli authorites, she’s not ‘right kind of Jew’

Having spent the night in an immigrant detention center in Ramle, Leila Stillman-Utterback, still handcuffed, began to daven shacharit, the Jewish morning prayers, as dawn broke.

“I think the police officers were very confused because that was not the image of an activist that they had,” said the 18-year-old American.

Now, after being deported and banned by Israel for 10 years, the Vermont native is unsure when she will be able to confuse people in the Jewish state again.

In two separate incidents this past week, the conflict between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and the Jewish left, both at home and abroad, reached new heights, as American and Israeli Jews attempted to accompany Palestinians during their olive harvest in the West Bank. Harvesters have faced repeated restrictions by the Israel Defense Forces and a string of threats and attacks by local settlers.

In the first incident, Stillman-Utterback and another Jewish American were accused of violating the terms of their tourist visas and entering a closed military zone. The two were detained, deported and banned for 10 years.
