Democrat senator makes stunning admission about Obamacare failures

Democratic Sen. Peter Welch of Vermont made a shocking admission on the Senate floor while trying to defend the Democrat shutdown.

Congress is now well into a record-long government shutdown, and it all started when Democrats demanded an extension on Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire at the end of the year. Even though this Obamacare extension is at the core of Democrats' professed opposition to reopening the government, even Welch acknowledged the failures of the very system they want to uphold.

"I owe you an answer on why it is I'm standing here today asking to extend something that was temporary," Welch said. "Here's the reason."

"We did fail to bring down the cost of health care."

If they let the rising cost of the Affordable Care Act (Obama Care) consumer shock occur at the end of the year, then blame the rise in health care costs on Trump., they win. Durbin on Shutdown: We Made Healthcare ‘From Zero to a Major Factor’ in Elections

While speaking with CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent and host Manu Raju on Thursday, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) defended a potential measure to reopen the government that wouldn’t have provisions on Obamacare in it by saying that“We have brought this issue as a major national issue from zero to a major factor, I think, in the last election. And I think we’re going to continue to make it an issue as we approach the next election in the mid-year.”

During a report broadcast on “The Arena,” Raju played video where he said, “[S]ome people would think that this is capitulation if you only agree to a standalone.”

Durbin responded, “Well, some people need to understand how the Senate works.We have brought this issue as a major national issue from zero to a major factor, I think, in the last election. And I think we’re going to continue to make it an issue as we approach the next election in the mid-year.”

After the video concluded, Raju said, “And the question was, if enough Democrats agree with Sen. Dick Durbin, the number two Democrat, that they’ve been able to make health care an issue, not necessarily make it a law.”
