EU fails to convince Belgium to seize Russia’s frozen funds – media

The EU Commission officials have failed to make Belgium change its mind on tapping Russia’s frozen central-bank assets to fund the government in Kiev, Euronews has reported. The nation still opposes the plan, citing legal and financial risks, following a “technical” meeting on the issue on Friday, it said.
The bloc is seeking to raise around €140 billion ($160 billion) to fund Ukraine using Russia’s assets as collateral. The scheme entails Moscow eventually paying reparations to Ukraine as part of a peace settlement.
The Belgian government is concerned over the lack of alternative proposals from the EU Commission, Euronews said, citing sources familiar with the results of the talks. “For Belgium, it is essential that all options are explored. Every possible approach must be examined with rigor and transparency to ensure the best solution,” one of the sources told the media outlet.
The bulk of the immobilized assets, estimated at around $300 billion, is deposited at the clearinghouse Euroclear in Belgium. The nation has previously warned it would face a potentially lengthy and costly litigation if Moscow decides to sue it over the seizure.
Russia could retaliate by seizing €200 billion ($172 billion) in Western assets, including both movable and immovable property, held in Russia by Belgium and countries such as the US, Germany, and France, the nation’s defense minister, Theo Francken, warned last month. He also stated that the money would be used to extend the Ukraine conflict rather than end it.
Moscow has repeatedly said it would regard any use of its frozen assets as theft, and that anyone who appropriates them would be “subject to legal prosecution one way or another.”
Alternative options, which include joint borrowing or direct grants by the bloc’s 27 members, could have far-reaching consequences for some EU nations, as both of them “would directly affect their deficit and debt,” the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing an EU Commission document.
The EU is reportedly expected to take the final decision on the issue at a European Council meeting in December.

EU to establish ‘Ministry of Truth’ – Guardian
Brussels seeks to curb the spread of information it claims could “erode trust in democratic systems” (they already have no trust by citizens)
The European Union is planning to launch a centralized hub for monitoring and countering what it calls foreign “disinformation,” according to a leaked document seen by the Guardian. Critics have long warned that Brussels’ initiatives amount to the institutionalization of a censorship regime.
According to the European Commission proposal, set to be published on November 12, the so-called Centre for Democratic Resilience will function as part of a broader “democracy shield” strategy, pitched by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen ahead of the 2024 European elections.
Participation in the center will be voluntary, and the Commission has welcomed “like-minded partners” outside the bloc, including the UK and countries seeking accession.
The draft accuses Russia of escalating “hybrid attacks” by disseminating false narratives, while also pointing to China as another threat – alleging that Beijing uses PR firms and social media influencers to advance its interests across Europe.
“By spreading deceitful narratives, sometimes including the manipulation and falsification of historical facts, they try to erode trust in democratic systems,” the Guardian cited the document as saying, though it provided little substantial evidence.
The Commission frames the move as a defensive response to foreign meddling, citing as one example the controversial cancellation of Romania’s 2024 presidential election.
However, Telegram founder Pavel Durov noted it was the EU, namely French intelligence, that pressured him to censor conservative content during elections in Romania and Moldova, condemning the bloc for waging “a crusade”against free speech.
The new center will add to the EU’s growing network of tools to monitor and moderate information, and is expected to work alongside supposedly “independent” fact-checkers and even coordinate with online influencers to promote content aligned with Brussels’ policies.
The proposal fits neatly into the wider enforcement framework of the EU’s Digital Services Act, which mandates the removal of “harmful content” and has drawn fierce criticism from free speech advocates.
Washington, once a partner in joint “disinformation” monitoring through the now-defunct Global Engagement Center, has since distanced itself from the EU’s regulatory push. The US State Department recently described the bloc’s initiatives as “Orwellian,” stating that “censorship is not freedom” and warning that such measures only serve to shield European leaders “from their own people.”
“If you’re running in fear of your own voters, there is nothing America can do for you,” US Vice President J.D. Vance told the Munich Security Conference in February, referring to the Romanian election. “If your democracy can be destroyed with a few hundred thousand dollars of digital advertising from a foreign country, then it wasn’t very strong to begin with.”

‘Suspicious package’ triggers evacuations and illness at key US airbase
An unidentified white powder was involved, according to media reports
Several people have fallen ill at a key US airbase that hosts Air Force One after a package reportedly containing unidentified white powder was delivered to the facility.
The incident at Joint Base Andrews (JBA) in Maryland on Thursday prompted an evacuation of two connected buildings, according to officials.
A JBA spokesperson confirmed to the media that “multiple individuals felt ill” after a person opened a “suspicious package” that had been delivered to the base.
As a precaution, the building where the incident occurred was evacuated and cordoned off and the scene was examined by HAZMAT teams, which detected no immediate threat.
Officials have not disclosed the contents of the package. However, CNN has reported, citing two sources familiar with the investigation, that the delivery contained an unidentified white powder and was accompanied by political material.
An initial field test conducted by a HAZMAT team reportedly did not detect any hazardous substances, though the composition of the material has yet to be confirmed, CNN said.
Joint Base Andrews is the home base for Air Force One and other aircraft used by senior government officials. US President Donald Trump had been at the facility the previous day, although there is no indication of any connection to the incident.
The inquiry into the incident has been turned over to the Office of Special Investigations.
The US has previously faced scares involving suspicious powder in the mail. The most notable case occurred in 2001, when anthrax-laced letters were sent to media outlets and members of Congress, killing five people and infecting 17 others. The perpetrators have never been found.
Since then, authorities have remained on heightened alert to sporadic reports or threats of powder-filled envelopes sent to government offices, election facilities, and military installations, most of which have proven to be hoaxes or non-hazardous substances.

Russian air unit witnesses Ukrainian drone killing of civilians (GRAPHIC VIDEO)
Footage shows two non-combatants being deliberately targeted by UAVs while trying to escape the war zone
Audio obtained by RT has captured thehorrified reaction of a Russian air unit after they witnessed the deliberate murder of two Ukrainian civilians in a drone attack by Kiev’s forces.
Highly graphic footage of the incident emerged online earlier this week, purportedly taken outside the village of Petropavlovka near the town of Kupyansk in Ukraine’s Kharkov Region. The town has seen intense fighting over the past several weeks, with Ukrainian units ending up encircled in the area, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
The murder of civilians was observed by a Russian surveillance quadcopter, with its operator helplessly watchingthe Ukrainian attack.
The incident infuriated the operator, expletive-heavy audio obtained by RT suggests, with the Russian serviceman heard branding the Ukrainian drone operator an “ashole” and a “c*t.”
The drone video shows two elderly civilians and a small dog attempting to flee the combat zoneand head towards Russian positions. One of the men was carrying a white flag, footage shows.
The civilian with the flag was attacked first, with the FPV drone seen hovering in front of him before striking him. The man was killed on the spot and his pet fatally wounded.
The second civilian, shocked by the attack, stopped by the victim’s body, making the sign of the cross. He was able to walk only a short distance down the road, eventually dropping to his knees and praying before being struck down and killed by another FPV drone.

Think about this, Trump backs and takes on his enemies that wanted to take him out, Rubio and Vance. Both of them, Rubio and Vance intentionally seem to be supporters. Watch every time they speak, their facial movements change when they mention Trump as a great President.
