At one point, (working as the Mech Engineering Mgr.) Anon was forced by upper management to outsource some of our Engineering to India. Our manufacturing dept. was also forced to outsource some of our jobs (fab & machining) to China. All because P&G (one of our clients) said this is a good thing.
P&G's justification: We could redo the engineering 2 more times and remake the parts 1 more time for the same money.
Based on that, they wanted the reduced cost effort reflected in the quoted pricing.
We still had to have the pajeets redo the engineering and the chinks remake at least 40% of the parts.
No win for us.
Took doing at least 4 projects like this before we could convince upper management to stop operating like this.
Same reason you'll never see them vote themselves term limits.
