Police Investigating Only a Fraction of Identified Child Sex Abuse Cases in Khan’s London.

The Metropolitan Police in London, England, say they are currently pursuing only “tens of cases” in their large-scale review of historic child sex abuse, even though nearly 9,000 were initially flagged for potential reinvestigation. Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley told officials, including London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, that after examining 2,200 of those cases in detail, just 1,200 still fell within the parameters of the inquiry. However, he added that once all preliminary checks are completed, an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 cases may ultimately qualify for renewed investigation.

Rowley urged caution in describing the review as a probe into “grooming gangs,” explaining that the national audit had used an expansive definition that included familial abuse, institutional failures, peer-on-peer exploitation, and online offending. Because of this wide scope, he warned that the public perception of grooming gangs does not necessarily align with the types of cases being examined. He stressed that the offenders reflect “the diversity of London’s population,” which is around two-thirds non-white.“We do not see the typology reported elsewhere where there have been cases of offending committed by groups of Pakistani men on white British children being the sole or majority case,” he claimed.

Mayor Sadiq Khan also faced criticism over accusations that he downplayed grooming gang concerns and mocked victims by Conservative Susan Hall. “In January, I asked if we had grooming gangs in London. You dismissed my question by pretending you didn’t know what I meant,” Hall said.

Other investigations have described police and social services repeatedly missing opportunities to intervene, particularly in cases involving vulnerable white girls targeted by older South Asian men working in coordinated groups. Police and local officials feared being accused of racism, or damaging so-called “community relations.”Police forces outside London have recently announced new arrests linked to historic grooming gang abuse, including a case in West Yorkshire in which 19 men were detained on suspicion of offences such as rape, sexual assault, and trafficking.

Victoria passes anti-mask protest law, Jewish groups express concern

The bill would introduce offenses for assaulting or obstructing attendees at religious assemblies, with both crimes punishable with a maximum sentence of three months ' imprisonment.

The Victoria state parliament passed an anti-mask protest law through its first reading on Wednesday, but Australian Jewish groups warned that the legislative package may not be enough to protect citizens from radical demonstrations.

The Justice Legislation Amendment (Police and Other Matters) Bill 2025 advanced to its second reading on Thursday after being announced by Premier Jacinta Allan’s government on Tuesday.

The reforms, designed to address violent and dangerous rallies at places of worship, would give the police the power to demand that protesters unmask if they are believed to have committed an offense or intend to.

Those that refuse to comply can be penalized A$1,000.

The lock-on protest tactic, in which devices are used to attach activists to one another or objects to prevent law enforcement from removing them, would be prohibited under the law if it endangers others.

The legislation also would ban the public display of government-designated terrorist organization symbols.

The Labor government assured that the legislation was geared toward allowing for the right to protest but would also allow law enforcement against those who exceed the boundaries of that right.

“Everyone has the right to protest peacefully; no one has the right to spread hate or endanger others,” Allan said in a statement.

The Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) and Zionism Victoria said in a joint Wednesday statement that while many of the reforms were a step in the right direction, they did not believe the masking laws would be sufficient to address belligerent protesters concealing their identities.

The mask law was narrow and unclear in the Jewish groups’ review.

“It creates uncertainty where there should be clarity. Laws that protect the community must be clear, consistent, and enforceable – this one isn’t,” said JCCV CEO Naomi Levin.

“Victorians, including Jewish Victorians, are sick and tired of neo-Nazis, extremists, and serial pests taking over our city, causing mayhem and disruption. These laws need to clearly tell protesters that they cannot hide behind masks.”

Far-left and anti-Israel organizations also condemned the introduction of the legislative package. The Defend Dissent Coalition announced on Tuesday that it would hold a rally in front of the parliament on November 18 against protest laws.

DOJ asked to reveal names of Israeli influencers in US

Groups want the government to compel those writing $7000 pro-Israel posts to follow the law and register as foreign agents

In late September, RS reported that Israel is paying a cohort of 14-18 social media influencers an estimated $7,000 per post through a firm called Bridges Partners. The filing, disclosed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, indicated that Israel began paying these influencers in June as part of a campaign called the “Esther Project.”

Yet, despite this cohort posting on social media for the past five months, not a single influencer working for Israel appears to have publicly acknowledged their work for Israel. Today, the Quincy Institute (the parent organization of RS) and Public Citizen sent a joint letter to the Department of Justice in an effort to change that.

The letter asks the Department of Justice to compel Bridges Partners to “publicly disclose the names, addresses, and contracts of the influencers paid to perform services on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs” as all registered foreign agents are required to do by law.

“Despite their legal obligation to register as agents of a foreign principal, none of these Influencers have filed the required registration statements with the Department of Justice,” reads the letter. To date, the only registered foreign agent on the Bridges Partners contract is Uri Steinberg, an Israeli citizen and Tel Aviv-based consultant with experience in the Israeli Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Tourism.

Craig Holman, Government Affairs Lobbyist for Public Citizen, explained in an email to RS that by concealing the identities of the influencers, Americans are left in the dark. “Americans deserve to know who is paying for the messages being transmitted through social media influencers,” said Holman.

Ben Freeman, Director of QI’s Democratizing Foreign Policy program, told RS last month that the influencers themselves need to register as foreign agents. “If these influencers are knowingly accepting money from the Israeli government to produce content for the Israeli government that's being viewed by thousands or millions of their followers in the U.S., it's not at all clear why they would not be required to register under FARA,” said Freeman.

While the letter focuses on Bridges Partners, there may be other influencers on separate contracts being paid by Israel. A firm called Genesis 21 Consulting was hired by the Israeli government in August for “Strategic communications support, content creation, and influencer outreach aimed at improving Israel's public image.”

A filing disclosed by another firm working for Israel called Show Faith by Works indicated the firm would “identify Social Media influencers to hire in exchange for favorable coverage” as part of a $3.2 million contract to influence evangelical Christians.

The Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs later told Haaretz that, "Claims regarding an agreement between the State of Israel and the company Show Faith concerning geofencing and payments to influencers are false.”
