Pope Leo just met with Illinois’ radically pro-abortion, pro-LGBT Gov. JB Pritzker

It would seem that the Vatican these days is willing to meet with any public figure, no matter how much they oppose the Church's moral and doctrinal teachings.

>rope a dope

chek't

o7

had to look it up (not a newb, either)

In media or journalism, “rope-a-dope” usually describes a situation where someone is led into overcommitting, overexplaining, or exposing themselves, often without realizing it, so that the interviewer, host, or opposing party can later capitalize on it.

Examples:

Interviews / debates: A politician is asked a soft or leading question and keeps elaborating, gradually revealing inconsistencies or controversial positions. The journalist has essentially “let them tire themselves out” with words.

Social media / PR: A celebrity or brand reacts defensively to criticism, escalating statements or posts. Observers then pick apart the overreaction.

The common thread is feigned patience or passivity, letting the other party “do the work” and make mistakes, rather than attacking directly.

It’s essentially the verbal/media equivalent of Ali leaning on the ropes.
