To the Ford CEO who can't find skilled mechanics-

This is a problem of your own making, if the problem really exists. Companies like yours off-shored manufacturing, disincentivizing people to try to learn those trades. Now that you have to bring manufacturing back, the caterwauling begins, not to employ Americans but, I suspect, to bring foreign labor here. I doubt that foreign labor was "skilled" when you hired them abroad. So do what you probably had to do there- teach them. On the job learning, apprentices, schooling provided at work. As one anon pointed out, if women during WWII could learn these jobs, there is nothing stopping anyone else from doing so if provided the opportunity.

Sending jobs offshore combined with educational institutions pushing for degrees did one thing- it put people in debt while putting money in the pockets of universities for diplomas in areas of little need. It all begins to seem like a long term plan.

Have you offered any jobs to farmers who have had to sell? Bet they know a thing or two about equipment.

If I do a search for tech schools with mechanics programs, I get a pretty good list- just in one state. Posted jobs at those schools yet? Get yourself apprentices and mentor them.

And stay away from DEI, WOKE, HR people who know nothing about what you need.
