I am getting a 20% property tax increase in Ramsey County (St. Paul, MN), and we don't even have the Somalis, just the Hmong. almost 2K up to 9800/year in one year on a house they value at under 600K. when we bought this house 20 years ago we paid less than 2k in taxes. and i just heard the county manager bemoaning that property taxes are a regressive tax and people might lose their homes over her tax increase. but she is still in on DEI, pissed the feds are cutting her funds, and thinks the county is going to get businesses started in the county to get property the county bought back on the tax roles. never mind 14% of property in Ramsey county is owned by non profits (because of the capital) and she is happy about that, it just causes problems for her tax base.
