In Spirit cooking they say 'eat the pain' I think there is a literal and physical meaning underneath the overt idea that they are eating their own pain. Start off 'lite' by drinking blood full of adrenalin from a self inflicted cut, then move on…..to the taboo of drinking the blood of others who have been 'stimulated' by pain….from there…a small leap into the biggest taboo.
