>But, gun owners are still rightfully furious with the Department of Justice and the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, for defending federal gun registration
Remember when California Gov. Newscum's administration "accidentally" published protected personally identiying info about 192,000 concealed carry permit applicants between 2012 and 2021?
"The information included names, dates of birth, gender, race, driver's license numbers, addresses and criminal histories, according to the statement. Social Security numbers and financial information were not exposed."
…"anybody who was granted or denied a permit to carry a concealed weapon between 2011 and 2021."
"…It is infuriating that people who have been complying with the law have been put at risk by this breach," said Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea, the association's president. California's sheriffs are very concerned about this data breach and the risk it poses to California's CCW permit holders."

AG Bonta (who is busy now filing lawsuit after lawsuit "on behalf of Californians" against the Trump administration and who has "not ruled out" joining the race for CA governor) called the data breach "unacceptable" and ordered an investigation. Published later that year (also in 2022), that report stated, in part:
"C. Overview of June 27-28, 2022 Data Exposure
"On Monday, June 27, 2022, at 12:30 p.m., the Firearms Dashboard was published by DOJ and went live on OpenJustice.
"Later that day, the Attorney General [Bonta] received messages on his Twitter account stating that confidential personal data was accessible to the public on the Firearms Dashboard. The Attorney General promptly notified the Chief Deputy Attorney General (CDAG), who in turn instructed the Chief of the California Justice Information Services Division (CJIS), which oversaw the operation of OpenJustice, to investigate the issue.

"…Research Center personnel came to the conclusion that evening – learned later to be incorrect – that there was no means by which the public could access any such data on the Firearms Dashboard. The Research Center Director also learned that Data Analyst-1 had uploaded an underlying dataset that included confidential personal data associated with CCW-related data to the Tableau server hosting the Firearms Dashboard, in contravention of DOJ policies and Research Center protocols.…
Ultimately, on the basis of assurances given by Data Analyst-1 to the Research Center Director that confidential personal data could not be publicly accessed on the Firearms Dashboard …
"Later that night, the Tableau server hosting the public-facing Firearms Dashboard … was brought back online and the Firearms Dashboard again was accessible to the public on OpenJustice. …
Footnote 14. See Section VI.E. infra for a more detailed discussion of the data included on the Firearms Dashboard.
"On Tuesday, June 28, at 6:30 a.m., Data Analyst-1 replaced the underlying dataset…
Shortly thereafter, DOJ personnel became aware of additional reports from the public that confidential personal data was publicly accessible on the Firearms Dashboard.
"… in fact, '''the public had been able
to view and download confidential personal data from the Firearms Dashboard since it was first launched the day before and, again, after the Tableau server was restored and the Firearms Dashboard was brought back online.'''
"DOJ promptly took the Firearms Dashboard offline …"
