Biblical scholars will tell you that "trespasses" means the same as "sins", but Ephesians 2:1 says "And you were dead in the trespasses and sins", implying that they are 2 different things.

So.maybe trespasses has the same meaning as today- to physically go where you're not allowed. Like outside the firmament or the ice wall?
